This was a huge step up from the other two Age of Empires games. The graphics are amazing, the missions are fun, and after you gain experience, it's even more fun online. This game is a must.

    Good Game.

Age of Empires 3 for Macs is very entertaining and challenging. The time period (1500s - 1800s) is very exciting to a history buff like myself. The campaign with colonel George Washington adds historical realism to a fictional campaign of the Black Family. There are a few things I am not too crazy about such as France's leader which should not be Napoleon as he did not fight under the Fleur de Lis which was a symbol of the monarchy. The game is different from AOE2 which is sometimes good and sometimes bad. Overall it's a great game worth 5 stars. The game runs good on my iMac which has these specs: 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo, 1 GB DDR2, ATI Radeon x1600 128MB. The game runs good at 1280x800, Anti-Alias Low, Shader Medium, Shadow On, Water Reflections & Bloom Effect On, High Poly Models & Terrain Details On, Particle Quality Normal, Tracer Effects On, Footprints On, Texture Settings on High. Turning VSync on causes the game to Crash on my computer. The Warchiefs is next on my list to buy. It's features such as Revolution and Native American civilizations promises even more excitement.

Doesn't feel like Age of Empires

Written by ZN from El Cajon

I was extremely disappointed by this game. The new round maps make it feel like age of mythology (another game which I didn't love) and the gameplay doesn't feel like the previous AOE games.

Beautiful Graphics, intense gameplay, interesting and fun campaign. It was my first time playing a strategy based game and I love it. I'm planning to purchase the expansion pack tomorrow! I'm running it at almost the maximum settings and it doesn't slow down at all!

Taking Serious, this game is THE BEST, the graphics are incredible, the sounds are so real. Is easy to learn how to use the cultures, also is easy to control the cultures. I recommend to buy this game. You will think that this game is little expensive, but you have to buy it if you liked the previous versions, because this version is THE BEST.....

I have a mac mini 1.66ghz with core duo and 1 gb of ram, this game lags way to much and just getting it started is a pain.

I just purchased a macbook 1.83 with c2d and 1 gig ram. game runs very nice on this machine. no lag at all.

the campains seem a little odd but u got to remember the year they are in. this is basically a civil war era game. graphics are good but AI cheats and is very very fast every on easy.

the rts is great though 200 people per side on macbook no lag.

I bought this game expecting much more. What I now realize is that I could have saved my money. It looks just ok, but I am disappointed at how I can't zoom out more and that the graphics unit-wise are very poor. In addition, the campaigns are a snore fest compared to Age of Empires 2.

Go with something else, there are much better strategy games on the Mac than this.

    Hold P + V for less than 64MB vid

    Written by CM from Adelaide

Best game I have on my iBook G4 - maybe if I had a really good mac Quake 4 would run better, but... Anyway for those who are interested it runs on the iBook (2006), but for those who are having troubles getting past the Proccessor and Vid card checks, just hold 'P' and 'V' when starting up the game- a little trick I learnt via trial and error. And, for all those who have been waiting, the expansion pack is coming out soon (Spring in US, Autumn in Australia) to give more functionality to this great release. A must-buy!

    Amazing!

I bought this game in December and have enjoyed playing through the campaigns and skirmishes. The campaigns have clear objectives, but also allow the player to explore the area and take their time. The skirmishes have the same qualities for both Deathmatch and Supremacy and incorporate even more freedom and intense action. I played this on a PC once, after i bought this, and noticed how much more vivid the game ran on a mac. I run this game very smoothly on my 1.83 GHz Macbook and also play the game on my G5 iMac through LAN. Although the graphic must be turned down for these computers, gameplay does not suffer (and really neither do the graphics), and if the RTS field of gameplay is fun for you, you won't notice the graphics differences. The game follows the style of Age of Empires II, but brings the style of gameplay into the 21st Century.

    best game ever...

Written by MS from Granada Hills

Ever since I saw the trailer I wanted to get this game so bad and was debating on getting aom or this. I am happy with my decision. This game has really good graphics and runs smooth with all of the special grapic settings turned on high or on. I have an iMac 2GHz c2d 1gb of ram with a radeonX1600 video card. Works great, no complaints except that you can only play with other mac users in the multiplayer. This game has come such a long way since the first aoe and weather you've been a devoted fan or are just looking for a new game to play this is sure not to dissapoint. GET IT its well worth the money.

This game is a great update to a classic franchise. It feels fresh and new but still retains the elements that mad previous games of the series so fun to play. The visuals are breathtaking, from individual leaves falling from the trees in New England, to the flash on muskets. It runs just fine on my 2.1Ghz imac G5 w/isight. If you are a fan of the series, or enjoy RTS games in general do not pass this game up!

Plays fine on my MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac G. Graphics rock on MBP. Immense replay value. Easy setting is easy and games are short (I can often beat the opponents while on my evening train home). It's fun to play.

    Best RTS EVER MADE

    Written by NW from Arlington

    Mar 17, 2007

I've played so many RTS's it's hard to recount them all. But they all had flaws. Age 2- some cheap units, not enough siege artillery, and grainy graphics. Starwars GalacticBattlegrounds- a game using the Age engine, but again, seroiusly lacking in graphics. Warcraft 3- Too hard for my puny mind, and I had to use cheats. AoM- whacked out AI coupled with seroius cheating. Empire Earth- Cheating AI. Rise of Nations- Too much micromanagement. But the only game I have played that lacks a seroius flaw is Age 3. A fun AI will make newcomers to strategy and old buffs alike love a good game. The home city gives a sense of unity and determination to all your skirmishes. The graphics are a little less amusing than the game sites parade- People torching a building doesn't make its roof fly off- but this is a great choice for an RTS, all in all.
