    Bose vs. Klipsch

I read BS's review from Jan 18th. BS told us we are better off with good sound quality speakers from B&W, Klipsch, KEF or Jamo. I took that advice and I checked into Klipsch and eventually purchased the Groove PM20's. However, when I actually heard the Bose Companion 2 at a store, they sounded even greater than the Klipsch's. I had them put side by side at home and noticed the following. The Klipsch's provides for bass control, which Bose doesn't have. The Klipsch's had more base. However, when I asked myself which played so that I can truly appreciate the entire sound of the song I was playing, I chose Bose. Can't explain it, but the Bose just sounded more natural. And BS is right in generally saying that Bose is notorious for not producing their specs and graphs. I got a very long response from them when I approached them about it.

Good speakers - bad audio cord

Speakers are worth the money, but the audio cord sucked. The cord connection with my iMac had a lot of interference, but after replacing the cord with nice gold plated connection the speakers were crystal clear. I would have expected Bose to supply a better cord.

    Good Buy, Too Much Bass

These speakers sound fantastic, but there is actually TOO MUCH bass for my taste. I wish there was a way to lower it, but the only way I can with my MacBook Pro is to edit the EQ settings in iTunes & Quicktime. Plugging my iPod in also gave too much bass, but selecting the "Bass Reducer" EQ setting on the iPod fixes the issue.

That being said, these are still fantastic speakers. The sound is rich and full and one of the best buys you can find for the price tag.

Pretty good speakers for the price

First Bose product I've owned. Came from some junk logitechs but i've had my share of good audio systems in my cars. The bass is a bit overwhelming at first but thanks to iTunes built in equalizer I reduced the bass and it sounds great now. Out of the box all speakers could use some tweaking, and these are no different. Wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

I purchased these a little over a year ago for my dorm room. I was looking for speakers that would provide good sound quality but not disturb my neighbors with a subwoofer. I have found these speakers to be an excellent solution.

The sound quality of the Companion 2 Series II is very good considering its a 2.0 setup. The midrange and treble are good. Bass is obviously not particularly strong but is sufficient. Overall the speakers create a balanced sound, not tinny and not heavy on the bass.

The speakers are not great for filling a room for say a party, but for sitting at your computer and listening to music or watching a movie, these are great. Additionally, they have a sophisticated design- not crazy in design and definitely not ugly. They're good size and offer dual RCA inputs as well as a convenient headphone jack.

I gave a rating of 4 starts for two reasons. One, there is no off switch (sometimes the speakers have a faint buzz when not plugged into an audio source). Two, the price. While $100 is not that expensive, you could buy 2.1 system easily. I think $80 would be a more reasonable price.

That said, I do not regret my purchase at all. In all honesty, I am more satisfied with these than my $500 Bose Wave Radio. I would highly recommend these for someone who wants speakers that offer good sound quality but do not want them to be overly loud/boomy.

I'm not sure these speakers live up to the Bose name... I have a pair of Bose headphones and I love the sound but the bass on these speakers are sometimes good and not so good. I believe a lot of it depends on the quality of music your are listening to (mp3 vs cd). I think for desktop speakers w/o a subwoofer, they give out a full sound which is good if you have limited space. If unable to afford the upper end desktop Bose speakers, these speakers are good if you keep in mind you may have to tweak with your EQ and $100 for a bose product is cheap.

    Decent Speakers

These speakers produce a very high quality sound at a low to moderate volume level. However, if you would like to have a room filling sound system, these speakers are not for you. once the volume is turned loud, the sound starts to ditort and warp the volume level. in other words, these are nice little speakers, but they are on the wimpy side. If you would like some more powerful speakers, I recommend the Logitech Z-5500 Digital Surround speakers.

Yes, I said it. They all go together very well indeed. The sound quality reflects the price. Not super high quality, but far more than you would expect for that price. You will not feel cheated.

Great little speaker - excellent headphone amp

What these are: A great little speaker for low to mid-volume listening, very accurate, perhaps a little warm, but great bass response and clean crisp high-end. Very "Bose" sounding. Also great headphone amp (probably the most surprising feature). What they are not: Not a huge big speaker that is going to push a lot of air and fill up a room. Overall though these are a great value and won't disappoint the critical ear.

    Some Minor Issues

For the size of the speakers. Bose is known to put a little bit more loudness in theses speakers. My brother has the new wireless speakers and they are at least 2 times as loud. These speakers have a very smooth look. Goes with anything. If i were you i would wait for the series 3

I am an avid music fan and I wanted a set of fairly inexpensive speakers for my 24" iMac, these were the speakers for me. I wish they had a bit more bass to them, but considering their size and price, they more than get the job done. I listen to all kinds of music, rock sounds great, hip hop has a good amount of bass, but personally not enough for me, jazz sounds super sweet, The Beatles sound wonderful, and Doves new album is legendary with these speakers! I usually have to listen to music and movies on my Mac with volume turned all the way up, but with these speakers I have to keep them turned down so I don't keep my roommate up at night. I have always been a big fan of Bose but not of their prices, but in this case, it's a steal for Bose sound. If you really want some bass you might want to get the Companion 3 series, but be prepared to cash out. All in all, get these if you don't want to spend a lot for great Bose sound!!!

honestly, for the price in comparison to some of the other Bose units, these two speakers are wonderful. they are very well designed from the control knob that rotates very smoothly, to the lovely angle in which they sit. it really does project the sound throughout the room. only thing i can find less positive is that the first half of the dial section is relatively quiet, but once you pass halfway, the true sound kicks in.

Great, but NOT too Great for Bose

No question that these speakers are great. It is loud and deep. Perfect for "desktop".

But, these are not BOSE quality. I don't hear that crisp acoustic sound that Bose are known for. With higher volume sound gets deeper and somewhat flattens...

    Overall it's 4 stars.

Overall these are good speakers, but good would be the primary word. Nothing to write home about. They get really loud and have a good, crisp, clear sound. However, I replaced them with the Creative GigaWorks T20 Speaker System, and I like them a lot more. Also, I wasn't pleased with the bass quality with the Bose speakers.

I was deciding between this and creative T20 but when i tried our both side by side, this set of speakers beat T20 flat. Minus the fact T20 has bass control. My opnion, this speakers has a bit too much bass for my liking so i did a bass reduce in my itunes and it sounded PERFECT. When i am away from my macbook and i uncheck the 'bass reduce' and i can even hear it down at the hall. And the best part is you do not experience distort when you increase in the volume in fact it sounds even better. IMPRESSIVE!!

Watching moives on this set of speakers have been in fact a better experience than my music. And even better then my previous altec ATP3 in my small room. Sometimes i just forget these are a small set of speakers when i coapre them to other setups For me they are the best among the 2.0 setups and even some 2.1 setups.

btw this is my first purchase to date and i love it! thumbs up to BOSE.

I bought these a few months ago and Im pleased with the quality of this speaker. The compact size fits very nicely even on the smallest of desks without sacrificing sound quality. The build quality and the look of the speakers is also very good, they seem to have a good weight to them and feel solid and match nicely with the aluminum finish on my macbook pro. My only gripe with the speakers is there is no power switch so if they are plugged in they are turned on so u can always hear that slight hissing sound which can be kind of annoying. The bottom line is these are great little speakers that have very rich bose sound and come in at an affordable price.

I really enjoy these speakers, they are an excellent sound for how cheap they are. They really live up to the Bose name. I highly recommend these speakers. If you're looking for good speakers and don't want to pay a high price, these are the ones you've been looking for. The only problem I've come across is when they are at a high volume they sound bassy. Overall, they are very good speakers!!!

These speakers are great. I received them for christmas and so far I love the sound quality. Personally, it produces too much bass and there is no adjustment for it, so I had to use the equalizer on itunes to reduce the bass. Also, the main problem is that there is no on or off switch. I don't know if you're supposed to leave them on or not, but there is only one volume knob and that's it. Other than these two issues, they are great speakers and it's definitely worth the buy.

First of all these are small and should be compared with products in similar price range and size. Here its a clear winner. For all the folks who want greater sound.. Please try BW(of course ur pockets will be lighter 5 times). However I would recommend it for all the folks who need a unit thats small and takes less of desk space... as u see these units dont have a seperate subwoofer but ul never feel it.. so go for it if u like quality at this price range..

My Brother got these for college. For being 2.0 channel speakers you can hear them all around his floor and outside. if you ask me that is awesome. Next best thing to B&O. If you are looking for inexpensive speakers these are the ones to get. Only thing that kinda bugged me with them was a minor feedback coming from them if you have them cranked up with nothing playing.
