DO NOT BUY IF U HAVE A MACBOOK PRO!!!
Written by ME from Maquoketa
Oct 4, 2007
Please do not waste your precious money if you have a new MacBook Pro with the Santa Rosa chipset in it (2.2 and 2.4 GHz models). The game crashes continuously, and puts the computer into kernal panic. There is nothing you can do except to restart your machine. I was highly dissapointed because I know for a fact that this software runs flawlessly on MacBooks and even older G5 iMacs.... Even with the v1.3 patch installed, this continues to happen. Aspyr will not help you with it, and as far as I know, there is nothing that can be done to prevent this from happening. Apparently the Santa Rosa chipsets are not compatible with the programming (hence why the MacBooks and iMacs run the game without issue).
Save your money and your frustration, and buy a game that actually works on your MBP!!!!
P.S. If you have any other Mac, I give this game 5 stars. You can completely disregard this review if you do not have a MacBook Pro. It is really a fun game; I just wish that it ran on MacBook Pros.43 of 54 people found this useful

Dont waste your money
Written by DI from Olympia

Actually worse than COD United Offensive. Multiplayer is full of cheaters and hackers and the graphics are lousy, pixels galore... gameplay is laggy even with broadband. You can download shareware games for free that are better.
Single player's fun for the 30 minutes it takes to play it through, but that's it.20 of 81 people found this useful

Great game, but WAY overpriced on Mac
Written by RK from Milwaukee

No doubt this is a great game, but it's so old now that it's just baffling that anyone would pay $50 for it today. I think it's going for less than $20 on any other system.

Lags on leopard?
Written by JD from NORTH HAVEN

I just a top spec. 24 inch iMAC and installed leopard after unpacking it. The game lags pretty badly and ruins the game play. I'm dissapointed because I've been looking forward to getting this game after reading all the great reviews. Apart from this issue it seems like it would be a good game!

mine had glitches
Written by MD from Stafford Township
Jun 2, 2008
Everyone else says this game is great. It is very cool, however, with my new 24" imac with the new radeon HD 2600 pro graphics card, 256 vram, 2gb mem, and 2.8 ghz hard drive, I still experienced glitches. The disc might be defective, I dont know. I sent this game back because it wouldnt stop freezing and quitting to mac osx main window.

Call of Duty 2
Nice WW2 Shooter
Written by JS from Bakersfield
Aug 2, 2006
Good:
Universal Binary, runs on 1440x900 with maxed settings on MBP 2GHz without hickups
Good graphics, nice effects, has a slight "console look" to it.
Good voices, brits have the according accent, Germans speak german ;-).......good varity in spoken words, does not get annoying.
Controls are standard FPS
I encountered no crashes, hickups, bugs, runs smooth and stable with no patches to install, straight of the dvd.
Its not BF1942, but you have 2 missions where you can drive a tank, no flying althou, or jeep driving. In a couple of missions you can shoot some cannons, flaks....
There are no "jump'n run" sections with frustrating skill level required, but thats probably a matter of personal taste, I can do without them.
Bad:
Playtime is fairly short, did the whole thing in about 5h.
Freedom of movement is pretty restricted, objectives have to be completed in a certain order on a given path, with 2 or 3 exceptions, where you can choose the order. So there is no exploring, looking for alternative routes, doing things your way. The good thing about that is that there are almost no chances to get "stuck" and run around for hours in a level to look for some switch that triggers a door someplace else.......
When moving, the crosshair dissaperas, what makes aiming a little hard ;-)
Ugly:
If you want to play online, get yourself bootcamp and BF1942. It plainly sucks.
General:
Its a nice shooter, runs nativly on Intel, but nothing to write home about. Its miles away from games like halflife, counterstrike....
I bought it from amazon for 50 bucks, and it is not worth that kind of money. In my personal rating where Halflife is worth the 50$, I would consider a fair price is about 30$

Good game. A classic!
Written by BS from RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA

The positive: good graphics plays great on most Macs, game is long and gives you time to play and enjoy missions, you dont feel rushed or forced through missions.
The negative: old game, crashed sometimes for unknown reasons but not frequent enough to pose problems.
Summary: not worth the $50+ dollars youll pay through the Apple store but is a better overall game than Call of Duty 4.

Very well made, but not that exciting
Written by HP from ÄLMHULT

First of all, I'd recommend anyone who isn't a total newcomer to FPS to play this game in hardened mode. I did the mistake of starting in regular mode since I'm not a very good player, and it's way to easy, you can walk effortlessly through the whole game.
That said, the game is very well made. The graphics, sound, level design etc. is top notch. However, I didn't find the game all that exciting. No moment in this game really got my blood rushing. It felt more like an interactive history lesson if you know what I mean.
Very well made, decent game. But certainly not in the top 20.33 of 56 people found this useful

Based on the demo...
Written by MW from Boca Raton
Aug 22, 2006
I downloaded the demo to my 2.16ghz/1gb dual channel ram/256mb x1600 MacBook Pro. I have to say that I was thoroughly disappointed at the framerate and graphics quality, and was expecting much more after playing it on XBox 360. The gameplay is still fantastic, but the graphics could be much better and it could run better on a system like this...

Call of Duty 2
Top of the line Mac game.
Written by LE from Ballston Spa
Dec 30, 2006
After playing the demo repeatedly I decided to purchase the full game. I was very impressed with the visuals my 17" 1.83GHz Intel iMac with 1 gb of ram could do. I could run the game ALMOST top notch running very smoothly.
Although this isn't one of the best games I've ever played it was very decent especially with the limited amount of titles on the Mac. The game gets quite repetitive although you do change to some very different locals. The game ultimately turns into clearing houses... defending houses... flank here... snipe there... Theres some driving levels thrown in there for a change of pace but they aren't that fun for that long. The levels are very linear with plenty of invisible walls to run into.
A lot of the game however is very fast paced and fun even in such a crowded genre (WWII shooters). Most of the locals are beautifully detailed and cool to look at. The AI is decent enough to keep you occupied especially on higher difficulties.
If you're looking for a game to test out your mac's capabilities or you just love first person shooters this game will be more than enough to satisfy you. If you don't care for first person shooters or are tired of all the WWII shooters out there than maybe you should stay away.53 of 79 people found this useful

Excellent game.

Very fun game, with awesome sound if you have good speakers & sub setup. I just wish there was more to the one player portion, it seemed very easy to beat and there wasn't a whole lot to it. Fortunately, once you are bored with that, you can move on to multi-player, and with the world's most dangerous prey in your sights, it rarely gets boring.

so well done at so many levels, it's jsut quite amazing game and a lot of fun. I don't think you'll be disappointed but there are definitely some imporvements that can be made. I give it 4 out of 5 because the mouse occasionally gets sticky in heavy game play and the refresh rate could be a bit faster. I love the interwoven storyline, even though what the other characters in the game say gets a bit too repetative.
Have not tried it in multi-player mode yet.34 of 47 people found this useful

Awesome single and multi play
Written by KB from Bedford
Jul 30, 2006
This game is about 20 times better than the demo but i would still suggest buyin gthe original (its goood) the ai is really smart, high replay value, although even the highest difficulty is pretty easy. The single player is amazingly expansive but the multiplayer absolutely shines. One of the best multiplayer games (up there with halo and hl2dm) and i wish there was a way to turn bump mapping off (i got a g5 quad running at 1920*1200 res and i notice the bump mapping. also, the guns are unrealistically accurate (i can snipe germans 300 yards away with a thompson) but if you like fps's this is a must buy.!!!

A very fun game.
Written by JR from Short Hills
Jul 26, 2006
This game is definetely a lot of fun. There is a lot of single player content available in 4 difficulty levels (although there is not much replay value) and the AI on both sides is very good. In some other games that I have played recently (starwars battlefront II) I would be the only person on my team taking down swarms of enemies, but here your computerized allies are actually helpful. The missions get somewhat repetitive at times (take this building...now defend until reinforcements arrive) but some of them are unique (even those repetitive ones are fun). The multiplayer is fun and runs well on my 2.16 ghz Macbook Pro, although it gets very hot and lags occasionally.

Awesome Game!
Written by PU from Clifton

I've been a Call of Duty fan since the first one came out. Call of Duty 2 is one of the best game ever. I have a 2.16 GHZ iMac 24 inch 2 Gig ram 256 Video Ram. It ran really great on Mac OS X 10.4. Until I bought 10.5. I put Leopard on, and I was amazed with it. But, when I started playing, it lagged. Not the connection. I'm running on 1600x1000 resolution(the previous setting with 10.4). I have no idea why it lags, and it's really annoying after I played a year with it on 10.4. I might have to wait for the updates for the 10.5, so that I can play with it. That's why I only gave 4 stars.
If you have 10.4, buy this game. Multiplayer is great.

Pretty good, worth the money
Written by JS from APO
May 29, 2008
I purchased this game for the simple reason, there wasn't much else to choose from.
The game is pretty good, and the hard levels are really hard. The AI for the game is decent. It still feels dated, but not so bad that it is annoying.
They really need to get Call of Duty 4 out for the Mac, better machine = better game in my book.
Good game, good game play but a little dated.35 of 62 people found this useful
