The game
Written by CL
Oct 15, 2006
Quake 4 is a good action games like doom 3 you get to ride in walkers go outdoors and battle with verious monsters and zombies. With verious wepons you will be able to deffet the gates of hell.I have played quake 4 and it is almost like doom3 the AI is quick and fast you get backup with your other crew members wepons like rockets lanchers, plasma guns and lazer guns you take them out quickly. You play the part of a warrior that waas captured and turned into one of them because the only way to beat them is to be one of them. Thanks for reading my review and thats the end.

YALFPS - (Yet Another Lame First Person Shooter)
Download the demo and try it - yawn...zzzz
Spend your money on something more exciting,
like a large collection of paper clips!
If you must get a shoot-em up FPS,
get Unreal Tournament.48 of 105 people found this useful

Quake 4 on my duel 1.8 G5 into my Sony HD TV via DVI with Radeon 800xt !!!!
Written by LM from Piermont
Aug 29, 2006
This game runs great on my duel 1.8 g5 tower and I have it going into my Sony 50 inch HD TV using my Radeon 800xt video card dvi out into the dvi of the tv. The game with the latest update and Tiger provides HD tv resolutions of 1080i and 720p. Playing online has never been easier even with a wireless setup via airport which I could never get to work with unreal tournament. The surround sound has yet to work for me but I have fake surround via the digital audio out of the mac into my surround amp. It is the best fragging experience yet!!!!!!!!

Quake 4 rocks on my Macbook Pro!
Written by PM from Toronto
Aug 24, 2006
Initially I was hesitant to buy Quake 4 for my Macbook Pro not knowing how well the dual-core processors would perform. However after installing the patch program I found the gameplay experience to be awesome! There is a bit of a lag while your progress is being saved, but other than that, I would highly recommend Quake 4 to avid and beginner mac gamers alike. Happy fragging!

id All The Way!!!!!!
Written by DR
Aug 17, 2006
I have been a fan of id from the very beginning, Wolfenstien, then doom in 1993 and eventually doom 2 in '94. Yes i was there since the beggining doom, quake, and now this. When i first popped in the dvd and played it for the first time, i had the biggest smile on my face, big enough that the corners of my mouth had their own zip code...haha, just kiddding. but i loved it when i first played it. I immediately noticed the game was based on the Doom 3 engine so from then on, i just knew it was gonna be great! The voice acting is GREAT!!! due to the fact that id hired actual actors to play the characters. The only thing that i kind of didnt like was the fact that most people wouldnt talk to you because they were "pre occupied" even though they were standing there next to some one right after they finished talking or if they were merely sitting down. also my computer crashes when ever i try to play multiplayer, in which the maps have no relation to the game. but i do love Xaero Gravity where you are in space ad jump from panel to panel in zero gravity. Also you quake three fans will recognize some of the maps, producing that nostalgic feeling.

Crashes. Always. Can't even run the game.
Written by RP from Milwaukee

Installed the 1.2 patch to enable SMP since I have dual processors, and now this game is worthless. It loads the menu, then it crashes when I hit start game. Without fail. It's really ticking me off. Avoid it unless you're happy running without SMP.

Great Single Player, Lacking Multiplayer
Written by NK from Seattle
Jul 5, 2006
The graphics on this game are awesome. Upgrading from a 1Ghz G4 I had no idea how good games have become. The single player is immersive and fun. Although it can be dark at times, it is done well, not trying to scare you like in Doom 3. The voice actors are great and the animation is supurb.
My only problem is with the multiplayer. It is very much in the style of quake 3 or unreal tournement. If you like those games this will not disapoint. However, based on the single player gameplay I was assuming there would be more of a team based large scale realistic battle. Instead it is a very fast pased shooter with short life spans and no vehicles. An open map with the hover tanks and walkers from the single player campaign would have been very cool.254 of 381 people found this useful

Great game minus a few flaws
Written by MP from Dahlgren
Jul 4, 2006
The game is great, graphics are awesome, game play and store are great as well. The only problem i have is on my 17" 2.16ghz 2G ram Macbook Pro, it crashes at least once a level to where i have to restart the computer. I don't know why it does this but its quite irritating sometimes, other than the crashes the game runs great on the highest graphics settings!

Runs GREAT on a 1.83 MBP 1gbRAM Graphics128mb
Written by JR from Waterville

I was hesitant to get this game with only a 128 meg graphics card... (I'm pretty particular about having a good FPS)... and I was quite impressed with how well the game ran -- with the patch. I can run at full widescreen aspect ratio1200 X 900 on medium detail settings with special graphic effects turned on (no shadows)... and the game gets at least 30 FPS... much higher in indoor levels (which there are a lot of). VERY playable, very fun. No slow-downs even with many characters in frame... A MUST-BUY if you have a macbook pro or imac intel... don't let your 128 meg graphics card worry you.
A REALLY intense game... with a great single-player aspect (haven't tried multiplayer yet)...38 of 53 people found this useful

Great FPS game!!
Written by AT from Los Angeles
Jun 13, 2006
Really fun game, even though the action can tend to get a bit repetitive. The SP campaign was fun... the multi-palyer, well, it could be better, if we could be able to play against people on PCs, lets face it, there are a lot more PC gamers than on the Mac =(, and thats too bad since MP seems like it could lots of fun.. just can't find people to play with really. The graphics are beautiful, once you get the SMP patch you'll see a large improvement in perfomance if you have a dual processor. The sound is good, but the music is kinda non-existant, but the voice-acting is superb. This is a must have for any Mac gamer, so buy it!

It's simple really... another great ride and the more you spend on Ram, Video cards etc the better. I've got a dual 2.00 with a 6800ddl (worth it) and it plays fantastically. Buy it.

slow and freezes the mac book pro up
Written by JW
Jun 1, 2006
Maybe I have a freak mac, but my mac freezes alot with my mac book pro 2.16 gz 2 gig ram; and I have to restart all the time. The controls are delayed so everyone with a pc online kills you. If you wiggle the mouse back and forth you will find your going left when your moving right because of delay. Even in the intel update, maybe it needs another update? But it looks really cool! and I managed to beat the game even with delay.

Good, but better buy the windows version if you play multiplayer
Written by CB from austin
May 6, 2006
I got this game a few weeks ago. here's what I have to say.
Pros:
can run on osx. Its smooth enough.
Cons:
Multiplayer: It's hard to find people to play with online. The multiplayer mode is mac only, and the number of mac players out there are very few. When I search for games I never see more than 10 people on.
Graphics: it doesn't support wide screen. Instead, it only supports the windows standard resolutions.
If we can play with windows people online and run full screen at native resolution, this game would be awesome.124 of 172 people found this useful

Quake 4 great gameplay

While Doom 3 is virtualy not playable on my Powermac dual 1.8G, this game, based on the same engine, really rocks!
Only downside is the realatively long loading times.
Of course, when you put the optiones to the higher levels, it starts to get slow aswell but you get the feeling that the people of ID software also wanted to keep the people on 'older' systems playing.25 of 30 people found this useful
