Belkin TuneTalk Stereo Microphones
perfect for school
Written by DS from FREMONT
Aug 24, 2006
After long research I decided to buy this over micromemo.. here are the reasons:
1: It can charge while you record long lectures...
2: you dont have carry a microphone plus the recorder. Belkin's microphone is located inside the recorder.
3: Recording quality is very clear, its does pick up the hard disk noise once in a while but its not that bad.
I think if you are looking for a recorder for school purpose, definitely get this one over the micromemo because of the charging ability but if you are an artist and want nothing but clear sound with no hard drive noise then get the micromemo...... i hope this helps.477 of 547 people found this useful

Great for lectures!
Written by JV from Old Bridge
Sep 13, 2006
I've had this product for two weeks now and have recorded every lecture so far and I must say, I am very impressed with the sound quality. The professor can be way in the back of the classroom and this little thing picks up her voice quite nicely.
The only minor complaint I have is that when you playback, you can hear the hard drive spin up every 15 seconds or so, which may be unacceptable to musicians and such, but for lectures, It doesn't really bother me. You can also attach an external microphone to avoid this problem. Oh yeah, and it drains a full battery in about 2 1/2 hours. But I don't usually record for that long anyway.
I say, buy it. It's a little expensive but if you're a student, you get a little bit of a break from apple.com112 of 123 people found this useful

Absolutely Perfect
Written by JA from Portland
Oct 19, 2006
I bought this device to record music sessions, and although it's advertised as a voice recorder it works very nicely for music even in large rooms, cafes, etc, although it doesn't pick up a guitar as well as an instrument mic (that's expected, though). Believe them when they say CD quality. I was astounded when I heard the playback, especially in vocals, and it picks up from a good distance.
On a fully charged video ipod, i could record about an hour and fifteen minutes worth of sound, sometimes stopping and starting again. I would say this item is perfect for:
Voice notes (lectures, voice-overs for video projects, interviews)
Music events (lessons, an ensemble group, live at a cafe)
Really anything you want to remember, playback, share with friends. Every recording goes straight to your itunes music library so it's really easy to convert to mp3 and send in emails.
This product is quality, useful, and fun! Smaller than it looks in the pictures, too. I'm really happy with it - don't hesitate!105 of 124 people found this useful

What's Everyones Problem? Lasts Long...
Written by AM from Los Angeles
Dec 14, 2006
I sing and have been waiting with baited breath for this product so I can record jam sessions, lessons etc. But I almost didn't buy it after reading the negative reviews about battery life. I was also worried about gobbling up storage space. So yesterday I ran an experiment. I charged up my 60 gig iPod and just ran the recorder until the battery ran out. It ran for almost 5 hours and recorded 3/4 of a gig of material Yeah! That's much more battery life and much less space than I feared.
Yes, there it does pick up the distinct hum of the hard drive as part of its room tone. But I can live with that for the convenience of a mic I'm sure to have with me all the time.96 of 111 people found this useful

Superb line-in stereo recorder
Written by MD from Edmonds
Mar 22, 2008
If you want to do line-in stereo recording, this is the device to buy. I tried the MicroMemo, which made good mono podcasting recordings, but failed miserably with stereo recording. This device is simply superb. On the low quality setting, the device mixes both channels into one mono channel and the volume is reduced; not all that great. On the high quality setting, however, my recordings were nearly lossless: both tracks were separated, they were loud and had great range. I purposely turned up the volume until the record light started blinking, indicating my input is clipping and the volume needs to be turned down. That little light is worth its weight in gold. I haven't tried this with a microphone, but I did notice the autogain increased the dB a fair amount.
For battery life, I ran mine until it ran out of space and the battery indicator read that it still had half its charge left (wow!). On my 2 gig nano 2G, it recorded 2 hours, 55 mins. and 9 seconds on the high quality setting. It split the file at the 2 hour, 12 minute mark and lost about 2 1/2 seconds of record time until it started the next file. I checked the recorded files and there were no hints of distortion or device sounds leaking into my recordings (as I've been used to with my 3G iPod 20 gig). I tried this device (for kicks) with my iPod 3G and my wife's nano 1G - neither worked, as expected. Oh well!
Overall, this is an excellent product that is a LOT less expensive then buying a professional field recorder.95 of 123 people found this useful

Belkin Audio Recorder - Simple and Effective
Written by CS from Wallingford
Apr 11, 2008
As an Internet marketer, I often give talks. I needed a foolproof way to record myself so that I could create new information products quickly and easily. So... with my 80 GB Gen 5 iPod, I snap in the Belkin TuneTalk Stereo, press the record button, and I'm recording CD quality sound.
When I talk, I plug in a simple lav mic into the bottom and can talk for a couple of hours.
And when it's time to edit, I connect my iPod, drag the file to my computer's hard drive, and open my editing software.
I tried others. Nothing comes close. The stereo build in mics, external mic connection, the USB plug-in for extra power, the CD (wav file) quality, and the ease of use make this a powerful tool for my business.
I highly recommend it!

I am amazed, this recorder is fantastic!
Written by JM
Aug 1, 2006
I am delighted with the outstanding performance of the Belkin TuneTalk Stereo: It is elegantly designed to coordinate with my black ipod video in a black leather case. The recorded sound quality is excellent in both high and low settings, with a clear and crisp natural tone. I have not detected any distracting hard drive noise. It is "feature rich", the feature I love is, being able to simultaneously charge and record at the same time, using the included USB cable with my IPod USB power adapter plugged into the wall, (no need to use my computer's USB port). Also, I have tried it with a small powered microphone - auto gain "on", the resulting recording was again, extremely crisp and clear. I also used the line in feature with my stereo, the results were the same excellent quality. The Belkin TuneTalk Stereo is a delight and very easy to use, it has enhanced the functionality of my Ipod Video. It is deserving of my "Five" stars.

The Best Mic
Written by DC from Marietta
Jun 8, 2008
I use this mic to record background sounds for iMovies ex. walking in the park, birds singing, and water rippling. I use it to record my chorus songs ( don't read music). I use it to record lectures. It is just like being there. The sound is incredible for the size and price. Easily attaches to my iPod and the iPod just knows what to do, RECORD.
I specifically like this particular mic because the acrylic spacer bar can be removed and now the mic can attach to my iPod without any need to remove the iPod from the protective case. Look around and you can find a case suitable for this.
If you need to have clear recordings at a low cost THIS is your mic.68 of 79 people found this useful

This thing is the best portable recorder out there!
Written by SP from Windermere
Jan 18, 2008
Crystal Clear audio, strong bass, no hiss, full stereo and amazing portability makes this guy the best portable recorder I have tried yet! I use it to record concerts, conversations, even Disney rides! The line in on it is super too. I use it to import records and tapes to my iPod, or plug in an external microphone. But, the mic is so good as it is, I prefer it, even over my dad's professional microphone that can plug into it.
The only downside is that it does take a lot of power (1 hour and 40 min. on a full charge in high quality) but it has a USB port to charge it while recording, or idle. Also, I keep the auto gain off all the time, because the auto gain doesn't just gain; it whips the volume down when it gets loud, and brings it up when its soft which gets quite annoying. Besides, it won't distort anyway without the auto gain, nor will it be to soft that you can't hear it.
Overall, it's small size is very deceiving for such an amazing recording. Don't just look at it, see it's size, see that it is marked as a voice recorder and leave. This is the best recorder for ANYTHING, not just voices. Also, for those of you deciding between the XtremeMac recorder, this is no competition. Belkin wins hands down in sound quality. The only thing that XtremeMac did well was power consumption, which must have something to do with the decrease in sound quality.67 of 96 people found this useful

A Great Mic
Written by JC from Brooklyn
Sep 13, 2008
I think that this is the greatest mic out there. I use it to record songs for my band when we don't feel like going to a studio. This is saving us a lot of money fight now because with great sound like this mic has, it sounds like a recording studio. I recommend it to anyone that wants to record anything, not only music.

This thing rocks! Incredible. I was shocked.
Written by BF from jacksonville

After buying a very similar looking product and being disgusted with it, I worried about
buying another low cost alternative to the full fledged mic. This thing however does exactly what it says! I would have paid 99.95 for it, had I known how awesome it is.
You need a great iPod mic? I play acoustic guitar and just to test it sat across the room with the device about 10 FT away not angled towards me, and played a bit. The clarity,
the strength of recording blew me away. Buy it.58 of 80 people found this useful

Way cool!
Written by AT from San Antonio
Jul 24, 2006
I have a similar device for my older generation iPod (plugs in top). This one has way batter sound quality!! Good job on Belkins part for finally producing one of these. I've been waiting for half a year for a video iPod compatible recorder. Great lil gadget for voice memos, recording music lessons, lectures, etc. Has a gain switch on the bottom, mic jack, and additional plug (assuming for firewire or USB charging/downloading).
If you were content with the older gen device, give this one a shot, you wont be disappointed. Unlike older gen models, this one doesn't play back thru a built in speaker. Must listen to recordings with headphones or thru iTunes.39 of 44 people found this useful

Highly Recommended - Sounds Good
Written by DM from Calgary
Apr 10, 2007
I've had this mic for more than 5 months now - the recording quality is very good - even for music. I use it to record rehearsals all the time, and even gigs now and then. For a sample recording visit danielmenjivar. com and click on "Chica de Ipanema" in the audio section - the band was quite loud (especially the drummer) but the recording still sounds good. The 5G video ipod and mic were on a table about 10 feet away from the stage... ;-)

Works Great, Clear Sound Quality
Written by JL from Calgary
Dec 28, 2006
I'm a journalism student and we had to write a story on a presentation being held in a theater hall. I was a good 20 feet away from the presenter, and the TuneTalk picked up absolutely everything. The sound quality was crystal clear. I've also had to use it in really close up situations with a lot of background noise, and it's still worked brilliantly. Amazing product.

Very impressive - with a Nano even!
Written by EM from Brampton
Jan 20, 2007
After researching, I ordered from the online Apple store - had it two days later. Plugged the TuneTalk into my Nano and the Nano screen asked me if I wanted to record now. Away I went. (Yes - a Nano - no hard disc noise!)
As a bass player in a band I was shocked to be able to hear the lowest notes on my 5 string during a band practice I recorded - I had read the frequency response didn't go very low. It sounded surprisingly good. The stereo separation is minimal, and the band caused the autogain feature to do a lot of compression, but there was minimal distortion and there was good clarity of the instruments.
I have also gone out of good phantom powered mics into an audio interface and directly into the stereo-in of the TuneTalk - brilliant!
Given the price - this is a fantastic portable recording solution!28 of 33 people found this useful
