I want it in white!!! Listen to Ipod engine noise too!

Great product with excellent recording quality and recording sensitivity on a good external microphone. Because TuneTalk plugs into the ipod it will pick up all the hard drive noise (they should have included a flexible extension cable to isolate the microphone from the ipod drive).
On high quality setting expect the drive noise to be a frequent issue with reduced battery life. The adapter may fall off if knocked. Its an expensive lesson!
Expect the ipod to jump to the record menu all the time, even when powering up. Seriously aggrivating unless you like plugging/unplugging it.!22 of 24 people found this useful

Great Recorder, Not -so-great external power access
Written by DA from Lahaina
May 15, 2007
I think this is an awesome recording accessory. But for some reason when I plug in to the external USB power supply, it doesn't charge.
I plug it in to the power supply, when it says battery running low. Then I get a message that says "not supported" or " unable to record...no power" etc.
Not sure what the deal is. It usually records about 80 minutes before the ipod power runs out. Other than that if I can get the external supply to function this would be a (5) star product.
Any suggestions21 of 25 people found this useful

I can't figure out how long it will record!
Written by BT from New York

I use the Belkin recorder with iPod and quality-wise, it definitely delivers. However I call the Belkin customer service number, I examine the user manual, I look all over Apple's web page, and all to no avail! Nowhere can I seem to find any information how long this thing will record. Am I going to be in in the middle of conducting a 60-minute interview and it just shuts off even though I have the memory space available on my iPod? We were recording a live musical performance the other night and it just shut off after 49 minutes of recording....! Does this mean 49 minutes is my limit?? Why is this something Belkin wouldn't publish in their user manual?

Worked for me (attached external mic, using for podcast recording)
Written by HS from Newburyport

So far, so good. I've attached mine to an 2nd gen 8g nano. (No hard drive noise!) Further, I've attached an cheapo 'Shack mic (dynamic, non-powered) to the 1/8th" stereo input (took a few audio adapters) on it for recording interviews for podcasts. I'm conscious of potential battery issues, so I've only tried to use the rig for about an hour or so, but that's been fine - seems like I could have pushed it further. (knock on laptop) And, I could charge it off my laptop via the USB port while recording, theoretically (haven't actually tried that.)
The recordings do take up space (esp. on a nano), so if you're doing a lot of recording, it's helpful to have a laptop (with lots of battery power or a power source) nearby for frequent off-loading and re-charging. Oh - and the recordings show up in iTunes as .wav files - which I import into Audacity (I'm sure you could use Garage Band or something else, too) for editing. The recordings aren't ultra-high studio quality or anything (and no, you can't monitor with headphones while recording), but the setup is fine for my basic, vocal interview purposes.
Everything has worked pretty well for me - plug in the tunetalk and the "record now" screen comes right up. Sometimes I have to plug and unplug components of this whole setup (nano, tunetalk, mic) to get everything to communicate correctly (do your test runs before the big interview!)...but nothing unusual for gadgetry-inclined types. The TuneTalk also seems pretty durable to me, too. I'm admittedly a little tough on components - this has survived being banged around in my bag, stuffed in pockets and being scrutinized by airport security. In short, I like it so far!18 of 23 people found this useful

Love/Hate

Great sound quality and you can use external power while recording. However you cannot monitor with headphones while you are recording! How anyone could overlook this simple necessity is beyond me. So I called both manufacturers. Apple claims it's part of Belkin's software that prohibits this. Belkin claims it's Apple's software that prohibits it. So in the end I really don't use this to record music on the spot as much as I used my minidisc. Simply because it's such a hassle to record and listen back over and over to find good mic placement. Fix that one thing and I'd love it!

Compact and Powerful
Written by WB from Rolla

I use the TuneTalk for live interviews in the field and find that it works very well for this purpose. I especially like its wireless design and it is easy to carry in the slimmest of attaches or folders. The included stand is flimsy and of poor design...Belkin should re-design the stand and recall the old ones! Otherwise, I would have given it a five-star rating.

THE BEST VOICE RECORDER
Written by MD
Jan 8, 2007
I have bought Extrememac MICROMEMO and BELKIN tune talk, and I have choised Belkin because:
-I can use Belkin with my case, Micromemo needs special case.
-Charge while recording :"The most important!"
The Belkin has a USB connector, I use my IPOD USB charge to record my classes. Without charger the battery dies in 2 hours and you will need wait more 1 hour to charge your ipod.
-Micromemo has a useless button;
Why do you need a button to stop the sound while recording?
If you press the button(on the Micromemo logo), you will stop the sound ( only the sound), Ipod dont stop the recording and you will know after when you listen your record.
Belkin has a button but it is a shortcut to record.
-Auto gain to external microphone;
Belkin and MIcromemo record the HD´s noise, if you need record your music, buy an external stereomic 3,5mm. The Belkin advantage is anadjust to external microphone.
Prices:
Belkin is more expensive but if you buy in England buy in Currys for 39 pounds.32 of 40 people found this useful

Belkin TuneTalk Stereo Microphones
great product, just a couple of nitpicks
Written by RJ from Waukesha

I found that the quality of the recording using the built-in mic was better than I'd expected and very clear, even at the low-quality setting. It's also very easy to use.
There were a couple of surprises, however. I wasn't expecting that external microphones (self-powered lapel mics) would record at only half the volume of the built-in mic, and the subtle background hiss reminds me of recording on cassette tape. Maybe this is simply not possible with any mic of this type, but it would be really nice to be able to monitor the recording through the earbuds and make any needed adjustments in mic settings or placement as needed, rather than having to play it back later and hope for the best.
Overall, though, for recording notes and podcasts, this is a great device, and never having to take my iPod out of its case to use it is a nice plus.299 of 377 people found this useful

Impressive sound - it's about time!
Written by ND from Rexburg

It's about time this came around. I've been waiting a long time for a microphone for my 5G iPod.
I am a recording engineer, and I am very familiar with the performance of professional-grade microphones. No, I won't say that this little thing is comparable to them, but it sounds better than some condenser microphones I own that are twice as much money (which are pretty cheap for studio microphones).
I am very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this microphone. Granted, recording at 44.1 KHz at 16 bits in stereo is going to add a lot of life to recordings if you were used to the old recorder from Belkin that was for older iPods. It is a very pleasant surprise and will be used a great deal for field recording.
Be advised that it is limited to a recording time of one hour, which may negate the practicality of having it for those who record long lectures. That is the only down-side.89 of 94 people found this useful

Great sound!
Written by NG from Chino Hills

I just bought my TuneTalk at an Apple store today; it wasn't even on display yet. I had learned about this new device for the video iPods at the National Educational Computing Conference at the Apple exhibit earlier this month, so I asked about it at the store. The sound is great! The position of the "record" button makes it a little tricky to attach to the iPod without depressing that button, and the stand that comes with it is a little flimsy....but those are the only reasons why I didn't give it five stars. Now I see they are available here online. Go for it!
