A save for a reporter without pen and pad...

I have bought the "TuneTalk" for my previous iPod's and it has worked great. Easy Connection, small, and easy to hide in pocket. In addition, easy to transfer the sound files from your iPod > to your iTunes > into a program like Soundtrack Pro. "TuneTalk," maybe by chance or happening, also works with my last generation (before the just released) iPod Touch -- Wow!
The only thing not good - almost $70, yucky. Otherwise, a good product.6 of 7 people found this useful

Good Quality but doesn't last
Written by LB

I bought this to record my voice lessons and occasional lectures. At first, the sound quality was great and the recorder really did what it was supposed to do - record everything without scratches or static when I sang high frequencies. It picks up EVERYTHING. However, once in a while the device would say it was recording and when I would go and play the song on my ipod or on the computer nothing would be recorded. Also, the chip at the bottom fell out within a few months and I am not rough with my electronics at all. Eventually, it has pretty much stopped recording. It really is a shame because it is a very good product, but within less than a year it has pretty much become useless. I don't know if I'll buy another one, but I'm hard pressed to find any other voice recorder that had as good quality, despite the drawbacks.
Bottom line: Great quality, but there are definite drawbacks and be prepared to lose some of your recordings and get frustrated.72 of 76 people found this useful

okay mic
Written by AH from Little Rock

i bought this mic intending to use it for my rock bands' practices and to record gigs and stuff, but the outcome was "staticy" and poor. the sound quality was fuzzy and scratchy and was overpowered by the amps and pa system. in other words it's sensitivity level is very high creating the bad unwanted fuzzy "wind-blowing" effect.

great sound, frustrating skips and clicks!
Written by ED from Morristown

I bought this product so I could record my college voice lessons (it was a requirement for the class). After each lesson, I would go back to my room and move the recording from my ipod to my laptop and listen from itunes. At first I thought it was perfect- the sound was incredibly clear. Then in later weeks I started to notice several skips in each lesson recording (keep in mind each lesson only lasted half an hour!). More often than not, the TuneTalk would skip over the parts of my pieces I really needed to work on and wanted to record so I could study my technique. I can even remember one instance where my instructor said "What I'm about to tell you is extremely important..." and then it cut out. This was incredibly frustrating for me! I also agree with everyone else who said that the amazing recording quality is a double-edged sword because it records the hums and clicks that the ipod makes occasionally (took me a while to figure out what it was). In conclusion- fantastic recording quality, but you will probably have to suffer through lots of skipping and clicks from the ipod.

Great Quality but skips.
Written by SH from Los Gatos

TuneTalk works much better than most around its price point. The recording quality is very good; however it skips. I would have recorded 15 minutes of audio and when I listen back the audio would have skipped/cut off about five seconds for every two to three minutes.

Troubleshooting and a small review (nano G2)
Written by DS from Stockport
Apr 8, 2007
In my experience this microphone appeared to be recording absolute silence at the high quality setting. I realised that on my nano, while I could listen back to recordings I made at the lower quality setting just fine, those at the higher setting seemed completely blank. However, as I discovered while on the cusp of sending the thing back, upon syncing with iTunes the files can be played back fine from your library, just not from the iPod itself.
So, if your microphone doesn't seem to be working, have a listen to things in iTunes before you try returning it. I would be interested to know whether this is the same for all nano users.
And in brief, a review: this is alright as microphones go. Signal to noise ain't dazzling, stereo separation isn't the best with the built in microphone, and it looks awkward plugged into the bottom of a nano. Despite all that, it does the job for taking notes, recording lectures, bits of field recording and so on, and has a very simple interface. If I could listen back to my recordings on the iPod itself I'd be a happier man, but as it stands I think this is the best microphone available for the nano.25 of 31 people found this useful

Poor design/good sound
Written by KA from Evanston

The sound quality is good and the autogain allows strong signal for lower volumn recording. In the off position it is fine for recording music without distortion. They need to design a better stand for this device. It is cheap and doesnt work well. Also poor design to have the USB connection in the bottom. Then the stand does not work at all.

charging dilema
Written by CM from Stamford
Sep 9, 2006
The whole reason that I got this one is to charge and record for long lectures. It says records and charges with included CABLE. The cable only charges from a computer. Carrying my laptop to class to charge my tini iPod is a HASSLE. I can't find a charger online and now I have to hit the Apple retail store - doubtful.
