For quick voice overs, sound recording, quick ring tone cuts or converting of audio and editing... it saves you opening up a garageband or logic project and allows for editing when converting file types unlike switch or others!
I used Sound Studio first when the eMac came about and it cam with the install discs! And now continue using it on my leopard!

Good for what it is.

I have been using this as a waveform editor since the dark ages (Mac OS 7). You wouldn't use this to create music, but it can be useful if you need to apply some effects to a waveform.
It sure came in handy recently when I was recording some falsetto vocals in GarageBand and the volume was inconsistent. I brought the waveforms into sound studio and use the normalize filter. Closed and reopened the GB file and it was all fixed.
Maybe the name of the product is confusing people who give this a bad review. It's not a sound studio so much as a sound editor.
P.S. I Use version 2.03 under Rosetta. I'm considering upgrading to 3 after I dug this up to fix the problem I described above.221 of 331 people found this useful

the interface is great...very intuitive. it had most of the features i was looking for without having to spend a bundle however it CANNOT pitch shift or time stretch (even 1 or 2 %) smoothly without noticeable distortion. if the only thing you need to do are simple edits and the like i could recommend this.

garbage...

don't bother with this, the idea is good, the effects it can add are good, but its editing features as far as actually putting a song together are absolute garbage, it won't let you playback while recording, so good luck with synchronizing anything. if music is what you wanna do, stick with garage band.

Excellent sound solution

I have been using Sound Studio since version 1. It has been and remains a powerful sound editing system. The current version is very robust and is software written for the Mac rather than a system that has been hacked and ported from the other side.

I've been looking for a program similar to Macromedia Soundedit 16 on the OS X side. I've used Audacity (Buggy) & Peak Express 4 (ok) and was getting by with them for audio editing. Came across Sound Studio 3 at the Apple store and have been very pleased.
