RollerCoaster Tycoon 3
Good Overall with one Major Glitch
Written by RG
Jul 22, 2009
I am running this game on a white MacBook with 2gb's of RAM. After adjusting the graphic settings slightly, I have had a good experience with this game. The only problem I have is that there is no solution for the Island Hoping scenario which means I can't unlock the last two scenarios. Not being able to finish the game is a little bit of a bummer, but I enjoy all the other aspects of the game.

Good, But Not Perfect.
Written by MP
Dec 31, 2008
What puzzles me is that why did they take away some graphics and features from the PC version? And any expansion packs other than "Soaked!"? Reflective water, drips of water on the screen in wet areas, and shadows while building don't show like in the PC version. Sometimes while I'm building a roller coaster it quits and returns back to my desktop. And with shadows turned ON, with the cheat "D Lean" flying camera feature, no shadows appear. Hopefully the expansion "Wild!" will be available for purchase with these graphic problems solved to make the game more enjoyable and realistic. But those are the things that I personally want to vanish. Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 is virtually the greatest game for simulation and creativity and I loved the game's series since the first Roller Coaster Tycoon! Please continue this legendary game for the Mac!

Fun to play but it lags.

Got my new iMac with 4GB ram and thought the machine would have no problem handling the 3D. I was wrong. It's choppy and a little frustrating to play. If anyone has any ideas to fix this problem I would love to hear it. Otherwise, it's still a fun game...you just need to be patient.

Great game, but sluggish

RCT is still a great series, but this Mac port should ran a lot faster. It's still okay to play, but disappointingly slow on my 1.6Ghz PowerPC and also (maybe more) on my 2.16Ghz Intel, both with 1GB ram. I still think it was worth buying.

Its a really good game. It crashed once but is now working like a charm. Its easy to learn and fun to play. The only problem is that it cost $50.00!!! Thats 2x the amount of the PC version.

Fun game, but issues.

This is a fun game but as mentioned if you want to use the higher graphic settings it is quite demanding.
Hopefully the Canada Apple store will carry the Soaked expansion pack for Mac that is now in other countries.
I'd buy the expansion in a second from the apple store if they carried it and didn't mark up the price so much compared to competitors.32 of 53 people found this useful

Great but....

I have a 2gig macbook.
The game runs just fine.
I installed the patch before playing it and that seemed to help alot. However, it does crash. I save alot so it doesn't kill the game. Its just not as fun to play knowing that its going to end with out you knowing. I really hope apple or the creaters re-think the patch and make a better one. The game itself is great. I think even though they went 3-D it still feels just like the older RCT's. Its worth it if they fix the crashes.49 of 65 people found this useful

It does work on Intel Macs
Written by SC from sierraville

Allright, after reading several reviews...was very skeptical, but once I saw the new Universal patch had been released, I tried it. Glad I did. I have an intel macbook 1.5mb 2.0ghz which was able to handle most of the game features reasonably well. It would slow down when there were several rides and it was "night", so I just kept things to "daytime" when I could. The game will still quit unexpectedly every now and then, but not to the point where it makes the game unplayable...just gotta save quite a bit. - these two reasons are why I gave it a four star instead of a 5, cause the game is very fun and can spend hours creating whole themeparks from scratch or with some guidance. Otherwise, "insidemacgames" has a pretty accurate view as well. Hope this helps

Decent

Id love to give it five stars, because its a great game if you LOVE rollercoasters like I do. I love the in-ride camera, and its fun to make rides with friends....
The reason I gave it 4 stars is because as soon as you get a big park going, it lags very badly. I use a MacMini with 1GB of RAM and it ran fine but once you get more than 10 rides up it lags like none other.
Overall, great game.23 of 36 people found this useful

Can't kill people?
Written by GP from Miami Springs
Mar 3, 2006
The only dissapointments I have with this game are that the people don't always ride your rides and they just loiter around the majority of the time. Also, being slightly sadistic as I can be, you don't get to kill the people with roller coasters that lead to nowhere or into the middle of a lake. In RCT 1 &2 I would always enjoy when the disclaimer on the bottom would beep at you saying your roller coaster blew up or guest so and so has drowned. In RCT 3, the roller coaster will blow up and yet the people magically jump off the ride and float back down to safety. So I just decided to build enormous plateaus, pick people up, place them on top and watch their confusion. But besides these factors it's a pretty cool game.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3
Totally addicting, small learning curve, processor hog
Written by RG from Cumming
Jan 9, 2006
I had the original RCT for PC. Consider that the tricycle, and RCT 3 the race car. A magificent leap forward without losing the joy at the heart of this series. However, it's not without its occasional flat tire...
After you get over the learning curve - which is high if you're using a laptop (no extended keyboard) and a single click mouse - the game is utterly addictive. It challenges both sides of your brain: create the perfect park and still run it wisely. Very fun while still challenging.
The program seems to overtake OSX, meaning it automatically changes your display settings and you cannot switch to another application. Very annoying - goodby multi-tasking. Consequently, there is no clock, battery indicator, drop down menus, etc. The lack of clock, while very frustrating, is a stroke of marketing genius. Just like a casino or supermarket, you lose track of time and keep playing for hours at a time.
CPU HOG: The game is so intricate that it swallows your CPU resources. In fact, it uses so much processing power that my new 1.67Ghz Powerbook with 2GB of RAM seems sluggish for the task and runs red-hot. Seriously - it nearly burned me. It will drain the battery in about 20 minutes or less. Not a great game away from a power outlet.
I thought the Reccomended Computer Specifications for the game were unrealistically high - until I played it! Don't go near this game with an older, slower computer. You need at least a top-of-the-line Powerbook with max RAM to run the game with any satisfaction, and a fast G5 to really enjoy its potential.
In all, if you've got the hardware and the time, you'll love it. Anything less: beware!21 of 28 people found this useful

Good, but a tad late
Written by JM from Charlotte
Jan 9, 2006
It is great playing this game on my powerbook after enjoying the previous enstallment in the series on a PC. There seem to be no glitches so far, except it can become a bit slow when your park becomes rather large. Compared to the previous version, I would say that there is definitely an overall improvement with gameplay with a few exceptions--
-The terrain is a bit funky sometimes with the new 3d graphics.
-Path construction is a real pain (especailly with the weird terrain).
-and, You cannot have rides, paths, or anything go underground.
These are the only things that bug me with the new version. Otherwise, I like it alot. However, it is funny seeing this as a game that has been out for PC for a while, and I feel like I am getting incredibly ripped off paying $50 for it. But, if you like the series and Macs, buy it.
