SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition by Aspyr
A Legacy Game that remains entertaining!
Written by AC from Key Largo

When I was a kid I grew up playing SimCity you know back when it had really bad graphics and was one of the first games I purchased back in the day when I became a mac user.
Following installation of Snow Leopard I decided to put some games back on my computer and came across my Sim City 4 CD's that had been sitting in my old laptop bag for who knows how long.
Happy to see it running just as it used to. So disregard the reviews saying it doesn't work on Intel Machines cause well im sitting here playing it just fine and dandy!14 of 15 people found this useful

Since this application is not Universal, it will not work with Snow Leopard. You can try the Universal Update patch from the Aspyr website.

Runs fine on Snow Leopard 10.6; Install Rosetta and Quicktime 7
Written by SM from San Francisco
Sep 5, 2009
Just tested on my early 2008 MacPro, 10.6 Leopard, Nvidia 8800GT graphics card. Game seems to run fine, all functionality intact, no issues observed. I suspect older games like this may not work correctly, as previous poster described, if you don't install Rosetta and Quicktime 7 along with Snow Leopard (they're options in the Snow Leopard Installer). If you forget to install them, view the Read Me on the Snow Leopard DVD for how to go back and install these "Optional" items as one-offs. After that the game should run fine, as I had no issues loading prior cities or creating new ones and adding zones, roads, utilities, etc.

Incompatible with Snow Leopard 10.6
Written by SC from Berlin

If you have Snow Leopard 10.6 avoid buying this until Apple sort their stuff out - which they hopefully will.
It's a great game, but only if you're using 10.5 or lower.14 of 15 people found this useful

Will not work With Snow Leopard
Written by CR from Haines City
Aug 31, 2009
Do not purchase this game if you intend on running 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Sad say that after years of the hard work I put into it and all the Successful Cities I created, it was a punch in the face when it wouldn't work anymore when I loaded in Snow Leopard.
The EA & Sim City Intros work but once you get to the section where the terrains are shown. the Sim City Logo stay stuck over the view and the computer just hangs. I think I will load up all my progress to my Mac Mini or iBook becuase I love this game. I will also try it will loading the Game from my Mac Mini and play it on my iMac via File Sharing wirelessly which was possible when all my macs had 10.5 Leopard.
Maybe apple will make updates so older software can work.13 of 15 people found this useful

DONT BUY THIS GAME

Sim City 4 for the mac is horrible. I am a senior in college and I have been playing sim city 4 on a pc since freshman year. i fell in love with this game and had tons of fun with it on a pc. It ran perfectly with no problems, even when i had a city of 2 million. However this game is horrible on a mac and doesn't run well even with a population of 300. I regret spending my 60 dollars on it. By the way this game is 20 dollars for the pc wit no headaches. My mac has 4 gb of ram and a 2.8 ghz processor. Sometimes i feel like getting rid of my mac and going back to my pc for my game. I;ve come to realize macs aren't all what they were said to be. this is most likely the last mac i will ever own and its partially due to stupid things like this.

A lot of things in one box

This game is so fun! I love how you can also install plugins to the game to make it even more customizable.
In this game you act as a mayor of a city that you can create the shape of the land for(AKA: Customize the land forms). You must manage the city budget, build a transportation network for your citizens or "sims", and many more things in this game.
It comes complete with many tutorials and the ability to create your own regions for different people(Ex.: one region for person). Anyone who likes to build, destroy(you can also create simulated disasters such ac a tornado or a volcano eruption) places, or just be in control of just about anything, I HIGHLY recomend this game!3 of 5 people found this useful

Really great. Running on my 5 years old Power Book G4 1.5Mhz / 2GB Ram and its ok :-)
Expansion pack is great and smooth. Hope that mistake with "Sim City Societes" will be followed soon by proper Sim City 5!!!
Until then buy this one. There is already a few games trying to be like "Sim City" but still not good enough.
SimCity forever :-)13 of 16 people found this useful

This game is amazing. I had simcity 3000 for windows and this version just blows it out of the water. Some people say they've been having problems with the game but I have the newest macbook with 3 GB RAM and a 2.4 GHz processor and haven't had any problems. The game does lag slightly but its nothing unexpected. If you have the new silver or white macbook or better, you aren't likely to have any problems with this game.

Super slow
Written by MT from Nepean

Its like trying to play a brand new game on a really old computer. It is slow to respond to what you are doing and most of the time you cant even figure out what's going on. If this game was really made to work properly on a mac they should say what one so the rest of us don't have to waste our money on it.

Written by AC from Newport Beach

Hey guys,
I had the exact problems. I have a macbook pro 2.88ghz with 4gbs ram and sim city was keep freezing. I changed the setting on graphics, instead of hardward try software. I did that and now it works perfectly fine without freezing.

Could have been great

Being a fan of SimCity since I had the original when I was a kid, I was really excited to pick up this game for my MacBook. I didn't pay much attention to the fact that it wasn't a Universal game because I've never had a problem running the PowerPC stuff on my intel macs. It wouldn't even load on my MacBook without the "beta" universal binary patch from Aspyr and even with the patch it was still unplayable. I did get it to run decently on my intel iMac using rosetta but it bogs down really bad when the city starts getting bigger. I put up with it for a couple of weeks just because I love SimCity but I eventually couldn't put up with the performance issues anymore and I'll probably end up just trading this one in to the used bookstore. Get SimCity for another platform. Don't waste money on the Mac version unless you still have a decent PowerPC Mac at home.

Bummed Out

Attn: Intel Mac users,
Save the $60 and the headache, this game does not run well on an Intel mac.
It also doesn't seem like Apple or Aspyr are doing anything about this either. I've had the game for about a year now and am still waiting on a patch to make it run smoothly and more enjoyable. Meanwhile anyone running windows XP can get a copy for $20 and run it flawlessly.66 of 77 people found this useful

Unplayable on Intel Macs
Written by WH from Loma Linda
Sep 27, 2008
There is a patch available, but it is officially unsupported. After applying the patch, the interface was still too slow to respond (3 seconds to react to a 'create residential zone' for example). It adds up, 3 seconds here, 3 seconds there. Extremely frustrating.
And you won't realize that until you've tried to play it--and then it's too late to return it.
Do not buy this game if you plan to use it on an Intel Mac (the only kinds of Macs sold for the last 2 years, I believe).99 of 107 people found this useful
