Bang & Olufsen Form 2 Headphones
Stunning clarity makes up for lack of bass
Written by SS from Lisle
Feb 6, 2006
I replaced my Grado SR-60s with these. With the Grados I had to crank the volume up pretty high to get the best quality out of them, the Form-2s on the other hand stay crystal clear no matter how loud or quiet they are. I don't like listening at high volumes, and this set lets me hear everything, and I mean everything, even in bed with my girlfriend sleeping next to me.
The bass can be heard, but it has no real presence. But they are so comfortable (I have huge ears) and compact, and that coupled with the incredible clarity makes them my favorite set of cans. I also use a set of Sony MDR-7506 Studio Monitors when I need to drown out the outside world, and though the bass is better on those, the Form-2s trounce them in clarity, soundstaging and long-term comfort. These are the headphones I have been looking for for over a year, and at $99 I think they are a very good deal, even if the bass could be better.
I still can't get over some of the sounds these things reproduce.13 of 15 people found this useful

Let's be honest
Written by KM from Downingtown

If you are buying these for your ipod-don't!-The cord is insanely long and there is no way to conceal the bundle. It looks like you stole a pair of headphones from you dad's old stereo equipment. And as far as sound-maybe I'm going deaf but I cannot tell the difference between these and any other heaphone under $100

Awesome sound: clear, crisp, clean and decent bass.
Written by HM from Galt
Jan 17, 2006
They look really good and they feel good (though they are a bit too tight). The sound is a revelation: open, crisp, clear beyond belief. You'll hear stuff in each track you never heard before, unless you have very high end speakers. I found them to be spectacular and immediately created the "I-Gotta-Have-Em!" phenomenon.

Bang & Olufsen Form 2 Headphones
Good sound, not a good overall package
Written by GS from New York
Jan 13, 2006
Well, I will agree with the reviewers who had nothing but praise for the sound quality from these headphones. On sound quality this product deserves four or five stars. The headphones are also very stylish-looking and lightweight, and they seem durable.
But that's about all that's good about them. They are uncomfortable: My head is moderately-sized, but I couldn't adjust the size enough to wear them comfortably. The earpieces press against the ears. Moreover, the cord is about seven or eight feet long. If you don't need that much cord and don't want it to get tangled, you have to roll it up -- which is unattractive and adds an annoying mass at the middle of the cord.
The description says that "you can enjoy loud music without anyone else listening in." In fact, I found the opposite to be true. I played a few songs at moderate volumes, took the headphones off, and pressed my hands against the insides of the earpieces. Even then, a LOT of sound leaked out, to the point that one could easily understand the words of the songs. Even my old cheap Sony headphones are better in this way.
My recommendation is to look further. This product may have very good sound quality, but in practically every other way it just doesn't do the things that a good set of headphones should.20 of 25 people found this useful

Bang & Olufsen Form 2 Headphones
great design, unsatisfactory quality
Written by MS from Newington
Jan 6, 2006
These are supposed to be portable headphones. When you buy portable headphones, do not invest in an open-air set. A sales rep told me that this is supposed to provide great clearity with matching bass. What the rep did not say is that in order to obtain the decent quality, you also have to play at high volumes. A volume level at which your neighbors next to on the bus ride will hear. The bass isn't the best either. The volume control is unsatisfactory. The design is unique but quality is sub-par. For the price tag, you're better off getting a pair of grados.

Excellent choice

Was looking for a set to replace the original ipod headphones. Wasnt looking for the in-the-ear types and this one had a sleek design and not too bulky. Sound is excellent and very satisfying. Found others to be too bulky and more expensive. Listen for yourself.

Bang & Olufsen Form 2 Headphones
well worth it
Written by CM from Brooklyn
Jan 1, 2006
I never write reviews, but I have to recommend these headphones. $100 may be a little steep for some people, but anyone who truly appreciates music will feel it's money well spent. The A8s are $160 retail and sound noticibly worse.
The bass response is clear and sounds great considering they aren't earbuds. I actually prefer the bass on these to my sony earbuds. The midrange is rediculously crisp and accurate. As another reviewer stated, jazz sounds phenominal on these babies.
They are very light, and I haven't had a problem with them feeling tight or anything. Also, they look amazing.
One gripe is the cord is LONG. VERY LONG. Get the cord wrap thing... you're going to need it.5 of 6 people found this useful

Last Set of Headphones I'll Ever Need!
Written by JM from Mount Vernon
Dec 26, 2005
These are the best all around over the head headphones I've ever experienced. I've owned Bose noise cancelling headphones and other various Bose/Sony headsets, and these by far exceed the sound quality of all others. The base quality is excellent, the mid treble range is not forgotten and high treble is a definite focus of this design. Overall, this would be an excellent product if you are truly a music enthusiast. If you are looking for a rugged pair of simple plug and play headphones, spend your $20 elsewhere, but if you truly appreciate some good tunes, this is yours.

I'm Impressed
Written by EB from Cupertino

Wow. The first time I had put them on I was rather impressed. First thing you'll notice is how light they are. Second, the music that emanates encompasses a very surreal, rich, full, and dreamlike state. It's as if the earphones fills your head - and brain - with music. I feel like I'm SURROUNDED with all the instruments and vocals. I listen to House, Trance, and Progressive Dance music and these B & O's take them to another level. Well worth the money.

Really, really nice sound
Written by PW from Scottsdale

Terrific sound from headphones that are reasonably lightweight. Have that intangible B&O feel and quality. Wish they had a carrying case which is my only nitpick, afterall $100.00 is not chickenfeed, but I note none of the competition offers a carrying case either. All in all, terrific sound at a fair price.

A Pretty Good Choice!
Written by JT from Chicago
Nov 27, 2005
I went to my local Apple Store with the intent of buying another brand of headphone. This pair surprised me. First, they were actually on display; the salesman told me they had just come in. I took a listen and was surprised at the bass response they had while being an open air design. I compared them to the 'popular' brand of headphone the Apple Stores in my area regularly feature on display. Surprise! They were smoother in response and gave a more realistic sound stage DESPITE being an open air design. Beside that, they were less expensive by $50.00. Give them a listen. Unless you're an absolute audio purist, you will not be disappointed.

Wonderful Audio and Design!
Written by FE from san jose
Nov 24, 2005
Aside from the awesome design and sound, I am very pleased with the Form 2's. I wanted a unit that I could share with friends via headphone splitter, earbuds are just too personal to lend out. I've read the reviews on the Form 2's and decided to take a chance without first listening to them. When they finally arrived in the mail, I must say...the clean sound if extreamely pleasing, and don't get me started with the design (beautiful artwork). I've tried the Grado sr60's and 80's but not side by side to the Form 2's, so it would be unclear how I feel about them. But in all honesty, I enjoy the elegant design of the Form 2's over the Grado as much as I truly tried to get over that look. If there's a downside to the Form 2's, it would be the long cord. I'm so tempted to shorten and splice the cord together, but mostly that would void the 3 yr. warranty...so I won't. I noticed the gold plated plug, nice! Also..I like how the headphone has very subtle markings to indicate the left and right side, this solves my pet peeve the I experience with earbuds.Overall, I would suggest these. Price is fair, Great sound in mids/tweets, bass it not too overpowering...Quality design/workmanship and sound!

Bang & Olufsen Form 2 Headphones
coolness.
Written by RM from Daly City
Nov 23, 2005
These headphones are very clear and crisp and very awesome! They have good bass and block out external noises (not completely though). I originally wanted the B&O headphones that fit around the ear, but I have small ears so they'd fall right off when I was trying them at the Apple store. These fit snugly around your ears so they won't be coming off easily. They also come with an adapter for a keyboard or amplifier. They already sounds great with my iPod 5G, but adjust your iPod/iTunes equalizer according to the genre and your music will sound even better. My only complaint... The cord is so long! What the heck?! When I unravel the cord it hits the floor. I guess you can wrap the cord up with one of those plastic zip pulls or velcro. But great headphones! SO worth the money!

Open Yourself Up To A Bold New World.
Written by BF from New York
Nov 11, 2005
I have spent a number of years in the consumer electronics industry. During that time I've worked in most sectors; from sales of personal electronics, competition car stereo, and high end audiophile products (REL, Sonus, Krell, Meridian, NOT Bose, Yamaha, Sony et al) all the way to running my own Home Theater consulting company. During that time I’ve heard many different sounds and listened to a very diverse collection of music. I carry a reputation for having an excellent ear yet a careful price conscious selection. In my opinion B&O has a certain reputation for beautiful design but generally at the sacrifice of your wallet and frankly your ears. This particular product in no way follows that trend. The Form-2’s light crystalline sound and atmosphere is fantastic from the first second you place them on your head. Of particular note is their incredibly smooth yet life-like mid range response. If you're into vocals or jazz you won't know what hit you! Their bass separation is fabulous, clean, deep and accurate. The complexity of Kelis’s baseline is apparent and felt! Singing above everything is a finely detailed treble sector – high hats shimmer and resonant tones are audible. A notable benefit is that these headphones are very efficient thus unlike most Sony’s or other larger headphones in this price range are able to get quite a high level of volume out of an iPod and, unlike the standard iPod ear bud headphones, they can actually handle and sustain that volume. In terms of comfort they are okay. They are light, and effectively encapsulate the user in sound, but are a little tight on my head. My co-worker tried them on however, and I nearly didn’t get them back. For $100 bucks overall, they are a really fantastic value and will open up a new world of musical enjoyment to all iPod users.

Overpriced!
Written by DM
Nov 9, 2005
I was yearning to own a good-sounding set of headphones for a very long time. I've went through 2 or 3 lightweight sony headphones that were valued around thirty bucks. I've even owned a pair of their $100 DJ headphones (which were decent). I went to B&O and the guy talked me into these. He let me listen to all kinds of classical tracks, in which these truly have decent sound. When I brought these home and plugged into some rock, they were no better than my old light weight headphones from sony in mids and base. Buy cheap sony's if you need light wieght. For sound quality I recommend Grado SR80's for $95. Trust me on this one...

I was going to step up to these headphones and was not pleased. They were too big and the sound quality was not as big of a difference from the Apple supplied earbuds as I had hoped. I sent them back.

Great Sound... Minor issues.
Written by FP from Laredo
Oct 25, 2005
I first put these headphones on while on the bus, I had just recieved them with one foot out the door, I was on my way to university.... Well, anyway, I have to say they sound fantastic, they have really stunning bass response. All my friends were saying how chic they were, they liked the exposed metal part. My gripe with them is that they are a bit uncomfortable, they seem to put alot of pressure on my ears, eventually, after wearing them for like 30 mins, my ears would start to ache. One more thing..... The cord is a bit long. Other than those two things, I really love them, its like a fashion statement in a sense, egatz them if they hurt, you'll wear them just to stand out. Make sure to get faster shipping also, apple sent them to me in a soft package, the box came to me crushed, and I'm happy they didnt break along the way.

BEST 4 Portability!!! I mean the BEST!!!
Written by AK from New York
Oct 24, 2005
I was looking for headphones that give GOOD sounds, light/less bulky with nice/stylish design, not totally opened OR closed, and THIS IS THE REAL WINNER!!! I'm very much happy that I found this item in B&O shop. It is the most comfortable headphones I've ever tried and looks cool! I hated those funky/bulky/manish looking everytime I wear headphones. This one is just so sophiscated and the amazing part is the SOUND. It gives queit amazing sound that is perfact for both outdoor/indoor purposes. Very well balanced, outstanding vocal part especially on high tones, could complain(?) about its less base so hiphop mania would prefer other headphones like Sennheiser HD25 and etc. Crystal clear sounds overall. I listen to Classical, Jazz, Pops, Alternative, etc. and I'm very much satisfied with what this thing does! I've tried BOSE triport, grado SR 80 beyond B&O Form 2 and the B&O is the winner in terms of design, lightness, comfort level and may be the sound(BOSE triport is just over priced and it is totally out of balance/ugly, Grado SR 80 gives amazing sounds BUT TOO opened for outdoor and its thick wire little bulky for ipod too) I also use Sennheiser HD600 and Grado SR325i at home and those are close to perfact headphones but not suitable for outdoor or portable players. But this one DOES. Highly recommanded!!! FIVE STARS! TRUST me on this review PLEASE! ^0^

For $100, Very Pleased
Written by NT from Fayetteville

I love these. I took a chance buying the Form 2 because there are limited reviews, due to how rare these are. I am listening to Agualung right now and these headphones bring out another demension, not herd in my Sennheiser PXC150. Bass is good but not amazing, because they are not closed ear. They look and feel great, very clean look. Only two negatives. One, is that others will enjoy your music at high volumes. Two, the cord is long and had buy the Sumajin Smartwrap to fix the problem.
