Need better shielding
Written by JB from Sylvania

Good sound for the money but I got a great deal of feedback from other items on my desk from my monitor even to my Blackberry. Speakers clearly not well shielded enough. Would get intermittent static/hum. Ended up getting Bose Companion 2 speakers which have much better sound and no feedback, well worth the extra $40.

my honest opinion...

ok, so you get what you pay for in the sound department, but the physical aspect of the speakers is quite poor.
the rubber pads on the bottom of each speaker doesn't stick very well to anything and the volume knob is shaped like a bullet tip, so when you grab it to adjust the volume, the entire unit slips and moves back on your desk. you have to hold the back of the unit with one hand, and then adjust the volume with the other.
hope this helps.177 of 290 people found this useful

Oh, the static...

I've had my JBL speakers for less than a year, and have the static issue as well. In fact, every day I use them, I have to unplug the cable to the computer and plug it back in to get good sound. After reconnecting them, they sound good again, so at least there is that. Anyone else having the static issue, you might try this. I sure hope the company finds a way to fix the problem.

Great Price, poor sound and power
Written by AH from Toronto

I have a late 2006 20" iMac and just bought these JBL speakers based on the reviews. I am sorry to say, for the $69 (CAD) they are not worth it; the sound quality, strength and balance is nothing like the built-in iMac's speakers. The JBLs at full power with the iMac's volume up at 100% doesn't match the built-in iMac speakers set at 50% volume; they (the JBLs) are about 30% the volume (of the iMac at 100%) when set at their top. It didn't matter if I was playing Louis Armstrong or Mozart.
I will be returning these speakers tomorrow and saving my money for a better pair. Sorry, I can't concur with the previous reviews on this item.33 of 54 people found this useful

Staticky after less than a year
Written by JB from PARIS

I really like these speakers. No problem with the knob or anything like that. However -- and I've read this in several reviews -- after a little while they start getting staticky and there's nothing you can do about it. I'm buying new speakers and they're not going to be JBL.

Don't waste your money.

Good speakers if you don't care about range. I'm using cheap Kinyo speakers I got with my first PC 8 years ago, and they blow these JBL's away. I just bought them and am packing them up right away and taking them back. Way too tinny and get weird feedback on the higher levels. If you just want to hear basic stuff, they're fine, but if you really enjoy music, save up and get something really good.

Good sound when they work
Written by DC from Franklin

I got these speakers as a result of my taking part in the class action against Apple for the iPod battery issue & now I wish I spent my certificate on something else. They worked right out of the box & sounded great on my laptop then a couple of weeks after getting them, they didn't work. No power coming out of the adaptor. So, I contacted Apple who then told me to contact JBL for parts replacement. I did & they sent me another adaptor. The speakers worked for the next day or so & went dead again. Contacted JBL & requested a replacement set of speakers. Got another adaptor. Which promptly died when plugged into the speakers. Obviously there is a problem in the speakers & I am now awaiting a response from JBL. Take your chances with these if you must...

wouldn't buy these speakers again
Written by FD from Kelowna

I bought these speakers over a year ago. Within a week of having them, I noticed that one speaker would not work unless I moved the connection around. I called Apple, who promptly replaced them - even letting me keep the original ones (thanks Apple). To my dismay, however, the replacements had the same problem. Now, I have two sets of these speakers where only one speaker works. I took them apart, and had to move around some components to get a good connection, but after a while, one of the speakers would die.
They sound pretty good, but the reliability / quality of the construction is not great. I think next time, I'll try the Creatures. I cannot recommend the Duets.9 of 20 people found this useful
