JBL Duet 2.0 Speakers - Aluminum
One Of The Best Purchases I've Ever Made
Written by BH from Whittier

There's nothing better than finding something that perfectly suits your needs, provides better than expected performance, and is a bargain too! I wanted something for my desktop that provided better sound than my macbook's speakers, could handle my music (jazz, classical) and would project decently throughout a good-sized master bedroom. That's asking a lot of a 2.0 system, I know, but I did my research and it came down to the JBL Duet, or the Bose Companion II. I really wanted to get the Bose, because I've used their products and believe them to be of high quality. But after hearing them, they sounded 'muddy' and didn't have that signature clarity. I decided to give the Duet a chance and I am so glad I did! They sound amazing, look great, and the price can't be beat! Awesome!

I love these speakers. They're small, but the sound is fantastic. Really, unless you're going to spend A LOT more you should get these.

Outstanding Compact 2.0 Sound
Written by KR from Worth
Nov 11, 2009
The JBL Duet 2.0 speakers are compact with excellent, clear sound lacking only in low-end Bass. (due to the lack of a subwoofer)
These are nearly perfect speakers for those wishing compact speakers, minimal clutter and quality sound.
The only drawback is the Power switch / Volume knob is quite small and slippery making it difficult to turn past the On and Off click. Otherwise, these tiny stylish speakers are just about perfect for their intended task.
If you want really nice sound without the clutter of a subwoofer the JBL Duet is a good choice.4 of 4 people found this useful

My only complaint

The sound is excellent, the styling is wonderful... my only complaint is that the volume knob is hard to grab onto to. The knob is pointy which makes it harder to grip.

Awesome Speakers

Thanks for all the other reviews. Helped me make a decision. I had bought the Bose 2 Companion speakers and tried them for two weeks and returned them. They were rich and great with music but they were awful for spoken word - iTunes U stuff, podcasts, audiobooks. I listen to a lot of this latter stuff when I work and music when I write so I need speakers that balance both. The Bose were definately music only speakers.
I was suspect of the price on these speakers but the sound for both spoken word and music is PHENOMENAL. I'm totally impressed. I agree with the other reviews about the horrid on/off button but I can let that go because they are small and don't take up a lot of desk top space, no subwoofer vibrating at my feet. I like simple invisible speakers for my computer and these fit the bill perfectly with a great sound.
The last problem I had with the Bose Companion 2 speaker was that if I turned them all the way down and didn't mute my audio on my computer the sound would bleed through. With the JBL speakers I can turn the volume right down, leave my computer on and I hear nothing. I don't have to turn them off and no sound bleeds through. Don't do this often but it was interesting the Bose still bled sound when they should have been off. The Bose also didn't have an off button so they are always on. Terrific value! I highly recommend these JBL speakers.12 of 13 people found this useful

Professional musician here working in various fields and genres of music. As soon as I setup the speakers, I gave them the ultimate challenge by playing 4 or 5 of my favorite songs -- and they haven't sounded that good in ages. A rich, full sound with clear vocals -- perfectly balanced all the way around. More than worth it.

Amazing speakers way too good for the price.

These Speakers are absolutely phenomenal. For the Price, i truly believe that their sound is to good. I'm a real audiohead, so my standards for good sound are pretty high. These speakers soar high above all my expectations that expensive speakers should have. These are better then bigger companies such as bose and altec lansing. If your having second thought about buying these, don't. Don't be fooled by the price.

I've had these speakers for about a year now. I use them all the time and have never had any problems with them. The sound is awesome, and you can't beat the price. I've actually had people comment on how good the sound quality is for such a little speaker.

Great speakers for the price. I got mine for my birthday from my wife. Sound is great and clear. If your worried about getting feed back from your blackberry or iphone...just don't place phone next to the speakers.
Anyways, they are simple to set up...just unpack and plug-in and enjoy.8 of 8 people found this useful

Need better shielding
Written by JB from Sylvania

Good sound for the money but I got a great deal of feedback from other items on my desk from my monitor even to my Blackberry. Speakers clearly not well shielded enough. Would get intermittent static/hum. Ended up getting Bose Companion 2 speakers which have much better sound and no feedback, well worth the extra $40.

I purchased these JBL speakers a few months ago and have been elated with the sound quality. My son uses them when composing music and also to listen to & study music in order to learn his percussion part. Their sleek design make them easy to accessorize any desktop or laptop computer - I use these for both.

just the job

Bought these just to enhance the sound from my imac, pretty good quality, no distortion at high volume...not a great deal of base but the Altec Lancing speakers which are better are twice the cost..
Simple to install, plug in to mains power, a lead goes from this to the speaker with on/off/volume dial, second speaker also plugs in, out comes a connection which goes into computer...2 mins and its done...well boxed and frankly for the money a bargain.30 of 34 people found this useful

I bought these on a whim, basically just looking for something other than the built-in speaker on my MBP. I absolutely adore the clarity of the sound, not to mention the volume that I can get out of them! Being an audio engineer on a budget, I highly approve of these speakers!
The only complaint that I have is that the knob is rather difficult to turn on.16 of 17 people found this useful

As titled, surprisingly full bodied sound ESPECIALLY for <$50. I use "Hear" software which is also great and both are highly recommended. I'm admitting my naievte but I was expecting aluminum construction not aluminum coloured plastic but still no detraction from my enjoyment of these little gems.
Hooked up to a unibody MacBook Pro.17 of 17 people found this useful

They're alot better than the stock speakers on the macbook, that's for sure. They do make a funny sound if my iphone is too close to them, but that issue is easily solved:) Sound & quality certainly overcompensates for any small nuisances. Simply stated, they're awesome.

Good sound but really, really bad control knob
Written by JB from Austin
Nov 11, 2008
Sound is very good for the money but the designers made a big mistake with the slick, bullet-shaped control knob. It is so slippery that you will have to wrap it with tape or put a rubber band around it in order to use it.

Very happy with the speakers but they seem to react to cellphones as they will emit a loud electric noise just at the same time my cellular rings... Annoying to say the least.

speakers not of equal volume
Written by SB from NEWNAN
Sep 16, 2008
received my nifty speakers today. easy set up and I think will be really surprisingly good !
only problem I'm having is that the speaker that has the vol control silver button - main speaker is so much louder than the other one. anyone found that to be the case ?
I thought at first that the silver button was a right left speaker balancer , but didn't seem to be that.
the main speaker is really good ! wish I could get the other speaker to have equalized volume.29 of 38 people found this useful

Unbelievable sound in these great compact speakers
Written by HR from Babylon

These speakers are unreal!! The depth of the beautiful music coming from them is hard to believe. When I attached them to my IPod nobody could believe how nice they sounded. The speakers are worth every penny. They are simply awesome. The speakers have a warm, full sound. It is hard to believe that they are so small. I attached them to Discman CD player and was equally impressed. This sure proves that gteat things often come in very small packages.
