I bought these speakers since I have a set of Creatures II from JBL as well.. but these are just so much better than those... The quality of the sound of these speakers beat the JBL Creatures II hands down.

Great Price, poor sound and power
Written by AH from Toronto

I have a late 2006 20" iMac and just bought these JBL speakers based on the reviews. I am sorry to say, for the $69 (CAD) they are not worth it; the sound quality, strength and balance is nothing like the built-in iMac's speakers. The JBLs at full power with the iMac's volume up at 100% doesn't match the built-in iMac speakers set at 50% volume; they (the JBLs) are about 30% the volume (of the iMac at 100%) when set at their top. It didn't matter if I was playing Louis Armstrong or Mozart.
I will be returning these speakers tomorrow and saving my money for a better pair. Sorry, I can't concur with the previous reviews on this item.33 of 54 people found this useful

EXCELLENT!!! I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THEM
Written by WP from Campbell

Excellent sound for the size, very clear and well balanced between hi and low. I am very happy with these speakers.
I have them for 3 months now and have not had any problems at all.
I switch from a laptop to a desktop and to an iPod and they always work great.
They fill up any room in my apartment with excellent sound.
People are complaining about the volume nob. Is not like you are going to turn it on and off all the time.
I don't think that is an issue at all.
These speakers are excellent for music, movies and games.
I totally recommend buying them if you are looking for a small pair of speakers with excellent sound.44 of 66 people found this useful

Good But...
Written by DY from Cerritos

I've had these speakers for about 8 months, and i have concluded that these JBL speakers are the best out there, even better than the Bose Companions, but my only problem is that
1. the volume knob gets "sticky" or kind of stuck when you turn it loud.
2. It has a lot of static noise... especially when i hook it up to my MacBook Pro, it is really static-iy and it is really annoying, which is why i'm going to buy new ones, or different speakers...48 of 67 people found this useful

I've had these speakers for over a year and i have to say that i am very happy with this purchase. They are very easy to use. They are much louder than i thought they would be. For such small speakers they are very loud. I really love these speakers.

Staticky after less than a year
Written by JB from PARIS

I really like these speakers. No problem with the knob or anything like that. However -- and I've read this in several reviews -- after a little while they start getting staticky and there's nothing you can do about it. I'm buying new speakers and they're not going to be JBL.

Worth the 50.

I got these awhile back and i gotta say it was a deal. Though not as fancy as all the other ones above these in the top sellers, spending much less for equal sound is the way to go. I have had these for over a year playing them loud and have not heard any bit of blown speakers. These are perfect for any dorm or hotel room, ive used them in both, they are very easy to move around, a plus from some of the others. These are a the real BARGIN.

Good speakers, but..

I bought my first pair of these and one of the speakers did not work the second week. So, i returned them and just plugged in the new ones and the sound is great, using it on my powerbook. But we bought a set for our new desk top computer and they sound terrible. Could be a short or something. Now i have to deal with Apple to return one set. I guess you get what you pay for. If you want speakers that give you good loud sound, it is not these. But, if you want a medium volume and don't mind the knob issue ,they are good for their money.

These speakers are ideal for low volume playing. Don't try blasting your tunes especialy if its got alot of bass. All in all it a decent set of speakers for the money. Its got a wide range of highs and lows.

I got these for Christmas on my Macbook, and they sound AMAZING. I would never choose a different speaker. They take up so little space that they arent' in the way. Just plug and play. They sound amazing and have a very rich sound, especially after fiddling with the iTunes equalizer a bit. Fantastic!!!!

!tiny !slippery !volume !knob
Written by JM from San Francisco
Dec 24, 2006
For the price, these are fine speakers--but out of the box a moderate-volume bass line breaks up (distortion), and what's with the tiny volume knob? you literally cannot turn the power on or off with one hand. placed behind my monitor, i have to reach around, pick the speaker up with one hand, and turn the slippery little knob with the other to turn it off. a great example of concept design trumping usability. applying some rubber cement to your fingers does help though. And since when did it become hip to provide no visual idea of what volume a speaker is at? Provides for many an opportunity to blast the neighbors out of their beds by accident.

Don't let the size of these speakers fool you! They definitely pack a punch, and they have the same sound quality as those speakers that cost twice as much. I'm very glad I purchased them and would recommend them to anyone.

Wow! These are surprisingly good speakers for the price

I'm an audio engineer, and I'm NOT easily impressed, but these little speakers are the best-sounding personal speakers I've ever heard. In fact, they're better than many larger, pricier systems.
The bass response is the biggest surprise. It's natural-sounding and open, not stuffy or forced, yet it has a surprising amount of punch for such small speakers, without being the slightest bit "boomy". To my ears in my listening environment, they have an amazingly smooth frequency response across the entire audible range.
In case you think I'm kidding, I usually mix on a pair of Genelec tri-amped studio monitors whose price tag was more than 100 times that of the JBL Duet speakers. On several occasions, I've opened GarageBand or Logic Pro 7 to record a musical idea and ended up doing a rough mix, forgetting that I was listening to the Duet speakers rather than the big monitors. At low levels in a near-field application (...sorry, that's audio geekspeak — for all you normal humanoids who don't have the audiogeek mutant gene, that means the speakers are close to you...like on your desktop), these little speakers are surprisingly accurate.
I've owned my Duets for almost one year. I loved them so much that I immediately bought extra sets for my kids to use with their iPods. For the money, I've never heard anything better. My thanks to the folks at JBL for creating such a terrific speaker at such a reasonable price.38 of 42 people found this useful

I wouldn't "Duet" if I were you....

Too high of a volume and they become fuzzy. The knob to turn the speakers on and to increase the volume requires either tiny tiny hands or high dexterity in the very tips of your fingers. I used it for my iPod several times but it's just not as good. It works pretty fair for my iBook, but that's about it. The electrical plug is pretty bulky and the cords tangle up a bit. But it can have pretty fair sound.

I've had these speakers for a week now and I love the bright crisp sound. Sharp clear highs and just enough base. Small enough to sit on a shelf with big sound. I bought the white to go with my new MacBook, a nice match and a great price. The JAZZ is great!

Good speakers if you don't care about range. I'm using cheap Kinyo speakers I got with my first PC 8 years ago, and they blow these JBL's away. I just bought them and am packing them up right away and taking them back. Way too tinny and get weird feedback on the higher levels. If you just want to hear basic stuff, they're fine, but if you really enjoy music, save up and get something really good.

GREAT DEAL - GREAT SOUND!
Written by JR from Birmingham
Nov 9, 2006
I just ordered these speakers on Saturday and they arrived on Monday! After I had them set up to my PowerBook G4 I was amazed! The sound quality is great and these babies even pack a little "punch" (bass) as well! Definitely a GREAT DEAL and they SOUND GREAT! I recommend these to someone who isn't happy with the sound level of their MAC product and want a louder quality sound! Great for a small gathering NOT a huge party! If you take them around a lot with you, be sure to find proper storage... they scratch easily when they bump up against each other.
The only thing I didn't like was the fact that you have to plug these into the wall as well... And the AC adapter is very heavy... Other than that I LOVE THEM!20 of 24 people found this useful
