My only complaint

The sound is excellent, the styling is wonderful... my only complaint is that the volume knob is hard to grab onto to. The knob is pointy which makes it harder to grip.

Awesome Speakers

Thanks for all the other reviews. Helped me make a decision. I had bought the Bose 2 Companion speakers and tried them for two weeks and returned them. They were rich and great with music but they were awful for spoken word - iTunes U stuff, podcasts, audiobooks. I listen to a lot of this latter stuff when I work and music when I write so I need speakers that balance both. The Bose were definately music only speakers.
I was suspect of the price on these speakers but the sound for both spoken word and music is PHENOMENAL. I'm totally impressed. I agree with the other reviews about the horrid on/off button but I can let that go because they are small and don't take up a lot of desk top space, no subwoofer vibrating at my feet. I like simple invisible speakers for my computer and these fit the bill perfectly with a great sound.
The last problem I had with the Bose Companion 2 speaker was that if I turned them all the way down and didn't mute my audio on my computer the sound would bleed through. With the JBL speakers I can turn the volume right down, leave my computer on and I hear nothing. I don't have to turn them off and no sound bleeds through. Don't do this often but it was interesting the Bose still bled sound when they should have been off. The Bose also didn't have an off button so they are always on. Terrific value! I highly recommend these JBL speakers.10 of 11 people found this useful

Professional musician here working in various fields and genres of music. As soon as I setup the speakers, I gave them the ultimate challenge by playing 4 or 5 of my favorite songs -- and they haven't sounded that good in ages. A rich, full sound with clear vocals -- perfectly balanced all the way around. More than worth it.

These Speakers are absolutely phenomenal. For the Price, i truly believe that their sound is to good. I'm a real audiohead, so my standards for good sound are pretty high. These speakers soar high above all my expectations that expensive speakers should have. These are better then bigger companies such as bose and altec lansing. If your having second thought about buying these, don't. Don't be fooled by the price.

I've had these speakers for about a year now. I use them all the time and have never had any problems with them. The sound is awesome, and you can't beat the price. I've actually had people comment on how good the sound quality is for such a little speaker.

Great speakers for the price. I got mine for my birthday from my wife. Sound is great and clear. If your worried about getting feed back from your blackberry or iphone...just don't place phone next to the speakers.
Anyways, they are simple to set up...just unpack and plug-in and enjoy.8 of 8 people found this useful

Need better shielding

Good sound for the money but I got a great deal of feedback from other items on my desk from my monitor even to my Blackberry. Speakers clearly not well shielded enough. Would get intermittent static/hum. Ended up getting Bose Companion 2 speakers which have much better sound and no feedback, well worth the extra $40.

I purchased these JBL speakers a few months ago and have been elated with the sound quality. My son uses them when composing music and also to listen to & study music in order to learn his percussion part. Their sleek design make them easy to accessorize any desktop or laptop computer - I use these for both.

just the job

Bought these just to enhance the sound from my imac, pretty good quality, no distortion at high volume...not a great deal of base but the Altec Lancing speakers which are better are twice the cost..
Simple to install, plug in to mains power, a lead goes from this to the speaker with on/off/volume dial, second speaker also plugs in, out comes a connection which goes into computer...2 mins and its done...well boxed and frankly for the money a bargain.30 of 34 people found this useful
