(Macsoft) Age of Mythology
Lives up to standards
Written by RF

This game definitely lives up to the standards of Ensemble's award-winning real time strategy games. The only reason it is not a 5-rating for me is the fact that mac doesn't have the expansion yet, the Titans expansion and that the map editor is confusing until you have used it millions of times(like me).

Runs like a champ on my intel mac mini (w/intel integrated video). All graphics turned up and even with hundreds of units in battle. No lag, no drop in framerate. Love this game!

Age of Mythology- PC version
Written by SS
Dec 15, 2006
Pros: variety of civilizations, god powers, and units; interesting mythological and historical tidbits
Cons: would like individual campaigns for civilizations, tend to label gods of death as 'evil'
Other: More gods would be nice, probably in the expansion. Wouldn't mind seeing some other civilizations (asian, north american, etc)
*Important*: This game is sold in two versions - win/pc or mac. Re complaint about core duo (unclear mac or pc)- I just installed the Windows version on my new Windows XP Core 2 duo machine and its fine.

Great Game
Written by DW from Cove

I really love this game! Great graphics and very fun! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that mine tends to kick me out every once in a while. It can really get on your nerves. The campaign is done very well! That seems to be where I get kicked out the most though :(. Even with that, I highly recommend this game!

This game is incredible! The graphics are stunning. The reference to real mythology is neat. The game definitely lives up to standards. I rate the game 4 1/2 stars. Not 5 because the game does take awhile to save, but still.

Could fix some AI & gathering issues

Aom is a fun game. I mean it. But it has some serious flaws, dude. Just one is that my first few games were a cinch- but as soon as I clicked the "Moderate" difficulty, it was like jumping from cool water into boiling hot! The peeps @ macsoft and aspyr need to realize this! Another annoying thing about this game is that when the map runs out of gold, you're screwed! You can't build another unit!
However, bad parts of the game aside, I really LOVED the campaign- heck, its the best of any game I've ever played. (the cutscenes are fun) Also, the way the norse, greek, and egyptian strategies balance out is interesting. Norse have a raiding, offensive strategy, while the egyptians have awesome walls and strong citadels, and the greeks are jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none.
All in all, if you're a good player(unlike me) and you like campaigns, this game is for you. But if this is your first strategy game, I wouldn't recommend it.97 of 163 people found this useful

Play one of the great civilizations: Greek, Egyptian or Norse. Build your settlements and win by military might or being the first to build a world wonder. Great fun. I hope the make the Titans expansion set also.

This is a great game in which you can choose how you want to play the game being you want to be a major military power or a peaceful nation. I love the way you can build mythical untis and that you choose minor gods and these choices affect the game in a great manor. Great game cant wait for the expasion.

Well the game is great! It is just like Age of Empires but with great graphics that work smoothly! I loved all kinds of effects such a a Cyclop throwing other units. It has a pretty cool story with only one problem: the heroes didnt gain any objects and didnt gain any experience points...

Fonts and Tiger
Written by SL from Lausanne
Aug 11, 2005
I had the same problem as above with AOM on Tiger. It was showing little squares instead of characters, making the menus impossible to use. I disabled (and then deleted) a font called Giovanni and everything is fine now. Don't know what this font is about anyway.
I absolutely love the game. The big downside is that you can't play with PC users online. I bought the game especially for that and I revert to using my PC for gaming because of this. Yeah, I bought the game twice (once on pc, once on mac), just to have a valid license to play on my mac.. but with the mac I can only play on gameranger which has very few players, while all my friends and most people actually are on ESO.

One of the best Mac games

Age of Mythology is one of the best games I have played on a Mac by far. Hours literally melt away; this game is fiercly addicting. Multiplayer is fun when there is a large group of friends. Campaign is surprisingly fun to do and the new myth units are very cool.

Great Game
Written by GD from Bronx

I got this game in the mail yesterday about 3:30pm, and I play it until 4:00pm the next day. I have never bought this style of game before, because I only like to games u can use gamepad. I am from the Playstation era of the 90’s, which like to use a gamepad style controller, so if the play is not compatible for gamepad use I don’t play them, because I don’t like playing a video with a keyboard it’s just not natural for my style of game. Age of Mythology is a great game fill with endless adventures throughout the game. This is game very addictive once you start playing it’s hard to stop playing, because it is so much fun.

Years beyond age of empires one and two. Great units and overall performance of game. Different gods and choices challenge players to a whole new level of thought and perspective. Would reccomend for players who want a challenging strategy game.
