    3 Stars might be generous...

    • Written by from Aurora

I got the mini very soon after its release in the fall of 2013, so I got one of these cases from the Apple Store before reading any helpful reviews. I would say I got about 6 months of good use out of this, but it has started to stretch out and barely stays on the mini at all anymore. The magnetized cover helps to keep it closed and from falling off but that shouldn't have to happen. I'm going to take it in and see if they will do something. I'm not optimistic after having it for so long.

It gets 3 stars for being a good product for about 6 months. Right now, it gets one star for being lightweight, sleek and cute (blue) - but not functional.

    Doesn't work well

    • Written by from Tallahassee

I have a smart case for the ipad 2 and it aligns well and stays open/closed. This one does not work as well. In the open position, the magnet is weak and cannot hold itself closed. For an already way overpriced case, it should at least work. I am trying to find something better.

    Super Disappointed

    • Written by from Mojave

A friend of mine admired the cover I have for my full-size iPad 4, so I bought her one of these covers for her iPad mini. It's not the same at all, and comes off way too easily. After only a month of use, the case was broken. She's disappointed in her gift, and I'm disappointed in Apple for marketing such a cheap, shoddy product.

    Perfect for intended use!

    • Written by from Chesterfield

This is not meant to protect your mini from impact damage. It is an ingeniously designed screen protector that doubles as a stand to prop up your mini for movies or if you use a wireless keyboard. Anyone who says it doesn't work as advertised is apparently not capable of figuring out how to use it, or has a bone to pick with Apple. This thing works great. Consider the source.

I just moved from an iPad 3 to the new iPad mini retina and love it! With my previous iPad, I had the Smart Cover in red leather and loved it - it worked beautifully for the more than 2 years I had my iPad. It traveled the world with me and I used it everyday. So when I decided to move to the smaller iPad mini I knew I wanted the smart cover that worked so well for my last iPad. That's when I encountered my first problem: the smart cover for the iPad mini doesn't come in leather, only a cheap, doesn't feel good to the touch plastic. I travel internationally frequently and use my iPad constantly, I need something that will stand up to heavy usage - plastic won't do that, but I tried it anyway. But the Smart Cover didn't fit properly. The edge of the case went too far over the edge of the iPad, so everytime I picked it up, the case would wrinkle or pop open, waking up the iPad. I put the iPad in my bag, and the case just flopped open. The magnets are either too weak in the case or it doesn't align properly so they can't grip the iPad. This is going back, pronto.

    Stick to refridgerator

    • Written by from St. Leonard

I email my favorite reciipes from my computer and open on my mini Ipad. The magnetized cover clings perfectly to the refrigerator where I used to put my paper recipes when using them. Saves on printing!

    Love my mini Ipad!

The magnet caused me to drop my iPad mini retina from my hand and the screen is now cracked. Do NOT buy.

    Works great for me

    • Written by from Ridgefield

I got this for a little extra protection for my iPad with minimal bulk (I also have a "skin" on it which prevents scratches but provides little additional protection. It's a champ. I don't know exactly what the problem many people are having but this cover works great for me. The stand function works well. Fold all the seams *back* the same way until the far edge snaps into place right behind the edge that connects to the iPad. I would NOT ever try to pick up your iPad Mini by the cover alone. The magnets are not stong enough to hold the weight of the iPad securly. (I never wanted to do this, but maybe some do and that's how they end up dropping their iPad?)

    It's simply PERFECT

    • Written by from Fresh Meadows

I wonder what the average and negative reviews about this product are all about, coz this cover does everything and exactly what it's supposed to be doing. I personally dislike using any covers or cases for any of my devices, as it's simply not necessary and also a waste of money. Hence, I only got this because of it's usability as a stand and also to use while typing on a desk or lap. The magnet is just perfect and is sleek and perfect, just the way it should be! Wonder, what can get any better than this!!

    Wouldn't recommend

I found the cover to be pretty flimsy. The cover falls off way too easily, especially when using it as a stand. I wish I hadn't purchased one... I've since replaced it with the case.

I have had this case for almost a year and it is a pain. It is definitely not worth the money because it will not stay on my iPad.

works well but microfiber breaking down

    • Written by from Carrollton

I received this as a Christmas gift Dec. 2013 with the dark gray colored cover also purchased at the local Apple Store. I just noticed the screen is covered in microfiber dust every time I open the cover to use. It is leaving a fine layer of dust so at this rate the cover will wear out in a few more months.

The cover does what it is designed to do and I like it. It is simple and light weight. THe magnets are strong and it turns off the screen when closed, as designed. I can use it to prop up the iPad for viewing and typing. Love the iPad mini but I am wondering if Apple is aware of this issue with the microfiber deteriorating. I will be returning this to Apple for a replacement or refund.

    Cannot use as a stand

    • Written by from Orange Park

Worst cover ever! I don't care how you fold it, it WILL NOT hold up the mini for viewing which results in it falling over repeatedly which is not good if we don't want a broken iPad. Needs a new design!!! I see that there are currently no other cover choices for the mini yet. Hopefully this design flaw will be fixed. Waste of good money!

    Great cover!

As much as I like my 128gb mini cellular model, I enjoy using Smart Cover on it as well. It accomplishes the design and helps to protect the device. Very simple, elegant, and practical in use. Highly recommend to everyone who like keeping their iPad as mini as possible!

I guess "user experience" isn't important at Apple now

    • Written by from Sunnyvale

Do you remember the original Smart Cover for the iPad 2? This isn't it. In fact, this isn't even *close* to being as good.

Save your money. Apple has so cheapened the original design that they should have changed the name. I'd buy whoever designed the original a beer or two, but for the designers of this...? Well, hemlock would be more appropriate, if only to keep them from designing anything else, for anybody else, ever again.

I'd give it zero stars if I could, but I couldn't submit unless I gave it at least one star. I did, but that's being generous. Sorry, Apple, but this isn't even worthy of wearing the Apple name.

    DISAPPOINTED!! Doesn't meet my expectations

VERY DISAPPOINTED in the Apple Smart Case!! Doesn't meet my expectations of an APPLE product.

Love the texture and slim fit of the case, however......

First day of use and it won't stand properly. Magnet appears very weak. iPad keeps falling over (in both positions).... not worth $80.

To many downfalls for my liking

    • Written by from Rosenort

I bought the Smart Cover and it was a big disappointment. It was not worth the $45. It also made my wifi connection a lot worse witch made me very unhappy. I also did not see how it protects your iPad, no protection in the back of it. All in all, be aware that it might disappoint you.
