    New ipad air cover

    • Written by from East Brunswick

The new cover only has 3 sections instead of the 4 for the other iPads. Because of this it doesn't stay in a nice position and keeps falling flat. They need to reconfigure it.

Pricey but you get what you pay for.

Very nice fit for the new Air. Magnets seem stronger than the last gen covers. Three panels work just fine. When you fold it up into a stand the magnets hold it all together. I had zero issues with it unfolding. I poked and pushed it around, stays together just fine. The new magnets are covered by material and are not making a metal on metal connection thus your iPad won't be scratched. Really nice fit and finish.
The only downside is the price. $43 is expensive. But it does work flawlessly and is a premium product from a premium company.

    Love the Updated Design

    • Written by from Chicago

I had an iPad2 with a Smart Cover, and just upgraded both. Love the new design. My old cover was just starting to threaten rip where the material looped around the bar, and I was forever annoyed by the metal-on-metal scuffing. The new design has no such issues! The connection to the iPad Air is all covered. And the new one seems stiffer (maybe the last one started out this way, but I don't think so). Love it!

    A step backwards

    • Written by from Bellevue

Moving from an older leather Smart Cover to this new design has been a big disappointment. The plastic hinge is too flexible when folded back, making the iPad less stable in the hand. The three section design doesn't stay in position securely when propping up the iPad in the fully reclined position. The only improvement I see is increased stability in the upright position.

    Bad design

    • Written by from Columbus

I just upgraded from an ipad 2 to the ipad air, my wife has a mini and had an ipad 3. The cover on the ipad air is terrible and very poorly designed. The way the cover folds, (into a triangle) it is extremely difficult to hold in one hand without the cover collapsing and flattening out causing the ipad to slip out of your hand. The ipad VERY easily falls over when you stand it up with the cover. It either falls backwards with very little effort or flattens out and falls forward. I have tried just the cover and now have the case with cover(one piece). Either way it is terrible but the cover is probably worse as it just comes off when it flattens. None of our other iPads had this issue. I like the air but seriously having second thoughts on the purchase. Without a good cover and case, it's likely to be dropped and broke.... Sure hope apple would redesign.

    Hate it!

    • Written by from McLean

Unlike the old IPad cover which had four folds and therefore stayed in place, this cover only has three folds. It constantly collapses and is quite useless. We are used to much better designs from Apple. Please go back to the drawing board. This cover is useless.

OK but never worth that much money

    • Written by from Langley

    Bought it, returned it.

Didn't like the feel of the cold metal back when holding the iPad Air.
I can't recommend the Apple Smart Cover, I would if the price was ~$15.
Got a generic Case Cover at a large online retailer starting with A instead.

Can create more problems than it solves

    • Written by from Glendale

Cover works well around the house if you want to keep the screen free form dust, but not good protection on the go. Jogging up some outdoor stairs, the cover flopped around in my hand and detached, leading to my stepping on the iPad. The iPad is battered but working, and the first thing I did was order a $20 case from Amazon, not Apple's ludicrously priced $80 version.

    Perfect thin Smart Cover ever!

    • Written by from Porter

Works flawlessly with my new ipad air. Doesn't add any bulk or extra weight to the already thin ipad. This is the type of case that's perfect for inside the house and you plan on using it he majority of the time there. Blue makes my ipad stand out and it makes it look even more amazing. Get it!

    Great Product.

    • Written by from POINTE-AUX-TREMBLES

The new smart case is a lot better than the previous generation. The quality is improved in overall . When you fold it properly, the stand works perfectly. I also love the fabrics of the case. Great case if you want to keep the original look and feel of your iPad Air. Apple creates such nice devises.. why hiding them under a big and bulky case!

    Bad design

    • Written by from Helsingborg

Have just bought an IPAD 2 and IPADair for my wife and daughter. Bought covers for them both and the difference in quality is very apparent. The cover for the IPAD2 sits perfectly whilst the cover for the IPADair does not sit flush and raises itself in the middle. If you compare the two covers the IPADair cover does not look as well made.

    does not stay well

    • Written by from mountain view

I've got smart covers for my iPad 2 and 3, so I though I should get one for the air too. Yet the new cover is too thin or something, when I hold iPad upside down, the cover won't stay as well as the previous iPads. So I have to turn the auto wake/sleep function off, which makes the cover less useful.

    Mediocre quality and function

    • Written by from Keene

Would not buy again preferring to find a third-party maker that is supplying a higher quality, better functioning product. This product does not compare well to the leather version that I had on the iPad 2. That cover functioned well in terms of not falling off as this one does and acting as a reliable stand as this one is not. The leather version had a good look and feel until it started falling apart at the seams and the plastic ribs showed through. That surprised me but till then I liked it quite well and that took a year or so to start happening. This version due to the polyurethane gets dirty really easily and looks grungy. The black leather one did not show dirt as much as the blue plastic one.

4 panels are better than 3

In my opinion he new 3 panel design feels uncomfortable and cheap. Furthermore, I feel without the extra panel the shape of the triangle no longer comfortably fits in your hand.

    Beautiful, mostly works very well

    • Written by from HOUSTON

The blue case--really a lovely blue-green--was bought yesterday with new iPad Air. Love the aesthetics of the case. Apple did a very good job balancing beauty, functionality, light weight, and ease of use. Other reviewers have noted the strange leather on the outside, and indeed it feels like styrofoam some of the time. But that may a good thing--it feels solid & sturdy, good for a cover, yet also sleek. The main drawback of the case, which some reviewers mention, is when you fold the cover back and it basically "flops." As a solution I'm making a small triangle with the cover, with the leather on the outside, and it's basically working. More praise for the blue color: the between-blue-green hue goes terrifically with a variety of my photos for wallpaper, as well as with several iPad default wallpaper photos. BTW, I have the black iPad.

    It works

    • Written by from Wolfville

This product works at protecting the screen however I found a few minor problems. When the case is used as a stand, it has a hard time staying up and collapses from time to time. And the protector leaves two long lines down the screen. Other than that it is a good case.

Really Disappointed - Functionally not good

    • Written by from Fairfield

If your a previous generation leather Smart Cover user you will be very disappointed if you like the fold keyboard tying position. The new cover lacks the quality hinge and falls down flat unless your on a perfectly flat steady surface and you don't move the ipad around or type hard. Its not worthy of the new ipad and this is when I really wonder what was apple thinking. If you just want a cover for protection and a quick way to get the ipad naked, this would be fine. I also don't understand why it does not come in leather which also says, apple why change a good thing?

    Not that great

    • Written by from Saint Clair Shores

I upgraded my first generation iPad to an iPad Air. The smart covers don't do a whole lot. They protect the front screen but they don't fold up into useful viewing or working angles. It kept falling off the iPad too.

My family has had several iPads and other apple products, so when my friend/roommate purchased the Air with this cover, I expected the same quality. FALSE. All the other one star reviews mention that it falls easily. This one not only tipped, but caused the screen to crack! Sorely disappointed. Did not expect this cover to cause $150 in repairs.
