    Standardly Standard

    • Written by from Albertville

The headphone opening is too small to fit oversized headphone inputs, the side buttons feel clunky but functional. The iPad fit snugly in the body, but the cover is not what i expected. It bulks in the first joint slightly and refuses to lie flat on the screen. It doesn't fit quite comfortably in the hand as I would have thought, and for the price of the case alone, I expected a firmer material and snug fit.

    Excellent Cover When Used Correctly

    • Written by from Quincy

I'll repeat other reviews suggesting that some people aren't using this case correctly. If you fold the cover with the suede side out, it works perfectly as a stand. As for the gap issue at that leather hinge, once the case has been broken in, the cover sits flush as intended. Be aware that the natural leather cover will show age and it's susceptible to oil stains like any unfinished natural leather products. Personally, I think the natural leather looks better once it's had some break in time. I eventually oiled my cover to give it a deeper natural brown color. It looks great!

    The best iPad case !

    • Written by from Tangerang

I don't understand why they keep writing bad reviews for the case. The case work perfect for the iPad air the quality of the leather is great ( I love how it feels ) and the design simply and light. The iPad snap in the case very good, I don't have any problem when using it both stand or typing position.

They keep talking about the price, well if you concerned about the price then you should find other case cheaper rather than keep writing bad review about this case. Honestly before I bought this case I was using other case which is cheaper and have same function, but I returned it because it's too heavy, bulky, and the leather feel bad compared to smart case.

Point of view, its all about point of view

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

I read reviews everywhere before I made this purchase (brown colour), I gave 5 stars not because I didn't see this smart case flip when on vertical, or easy to get dirty overtime, I do see all the problems, and here is why I gave 5 stars:

    1) when you are carrying a 1 pound iPad in one hand + protection, you could go all the way to otterbox (which I already have 4 different colours on ipad2/3/4), it makes it over 2 pounds heavy. Or you want something light and okay strong with all around protection
    2) when you are a business man, and iPad is your replacement Laptop, you could have shininess case with fake jewel encased, or a folio with pens, business card and a pack of notepad along with it (if this folio is your choice, you are still not fully digitized). Or you probably want something simple looking, fast to take out and start using. (a straight leather briefcase vs. pocket-everywhere-messenger-bag)
    3) Vertical flip problem, if you could train yourself not to touch it too hard, which exist the threshold tension to make it flip over. Smart case actually has the smallest footprint when you are using it vertically on a steady surface. Same idea when you typing onscreen vs. typing on keyboard.
    4) To me, discolouring or getting dirty on leather its a beauty, unlike glossy plastic or shiny metal, as long as its not pizza stink, it will look good in the long run.
    5) Protection, smart case is not military grade or 30m waterproof, but simple enough to sustain casual drop (not those drop test you see in youtube), accident do happen, someone don't even have a scratch with no protection, or someone, like me crack twice even on otterbox defender case (I have 3,5 yr old kid, I know)
    6) Physical keyboard or non? I have Logitech solar power, ultra thin, even an apple BT keyboard for previous generations. Unless you are a type-everyminute person, you just need to roll the smart case in typing mode and lose 1/2 of the screen for <10% of usage a day.

All in all, point of view, when my kids using my iPad with this smart case, my eyes will always on the iPad, when I am on the road, I will feel happy to have the lightness, the look and feel. When I am typing, I don't really miss the physical keyboard as much as I am on the mini.
It is not for everyone, just like the rest of 1,000,000,000 kinds of cases out in the market. But if you are willing to settle one case that works for long time, instead of 5x$20 case/ipad, It is for you!

    Sleek Protective Case, Terrible Stand

    • Written by from Minneapolis

Pros: Very slim and adds little weight compared to other cases, nice feel in your hands, no awkward cut outs
Cons: can barely stand with its flimsy flip cover - the Smart Cover for the previous iPad was WAAAY more sturdy

    iPad Air Case

    • Written by from Chicora

After long debate which iPad to get I settled with the iPad Air and LOVE it. I wanted a case that protected it but not something like the Otterbox. I love the thinness and the color. The price is kind of steep, but any Apple product is well worth your money!!!!!!

Black screen when folded all the way back

    • Written by from San Antonio

The screen goes dark, sleep mode I suppose, when the cover is flipped all the way back and touches the lower backside of the unit. I think that the magnets activate sleep mode when in contact with that area behind the unit. I am trying to adjust how I handle the unit to prevent this from happening, but it is such an inconvenience. This does not happen at all with ipad and vinyl cover. Will likely take the case back.

    A step backward

    • Written by from BOSTON

I have the 3rd gen ipad Smart Cover, and it's an impressively simple design that works very, very well. The new case for the Air is loaded with issues that are unacceptable for something coming out of Cupertino:
    1. The case protrudes further over the edge than the cover, making it difficult to grasp the cover to open it.
    2. The three-section stand design is absolutely useless compared to the robust four-section design. The new one falls flat, literally. I'm actually surprised. It's like the designers never actually used one.
    3. The cover doesn't lie flush and looks sloppy
    4. The hinge is just a flap of leather and is too stiff to let the ipad stand upright properly. The hinge (an actual hinge) on the 3rd gen cover moves much better. The new one might break in if I weren't returning it tomorrow.

Two stars because the materials are nice and it looks good.

    Just ok

    • Written by from Missouri ciy

The stand provides good protection, but the stand is weak. Furthermore, placing in a position to type, is difficult to maintain. The slightest pressure while typing causes it to collapse. I just purchased 4 days ago, and I travel extensively, often typing out emails and other correspondence during flights. Although I spent nearly $ 80 including tax, it will have to be a loss, because I must get another case. Looks nice, but I would not recommend.

Looks good and covers the Ipad properly. It's very tight in this regard much better than the old one which was very loose. The fifth star would have been achieved if the stand was better. Although I recommand this cover

    Great Case!!

    • Written by from Nolanville

This case is great for business. I process credit cards out in the field, and this provides good protection while allowing a Credit Card Swiper to fully plug in. A issue you would have with OuterBoxes or LifeProofs for example. Works well as a stand and grips the surface well so it does't slide around. The only negative thing about the case is that the iPad Air is beautiful it's like covering a diamond, but the case is better looking than another cases I have seen on the market, and slim. Holding my iPad Air in this case is like holding a naked iPad 4.

    Decent case...

    • Written by from Santa Barbara

    Pros:
    - snug fit (it's quite difficult to take the iPad out of the case)
    - smooth leather

    Cons:
    - certain earphone jack plugs won't fit
    - durability concern (especially the "rim" part of the top cover which has been glued to the bottom cover)

To me, pressing on the volume control/lock buttons is alright, I don't have complaints. Standing either way (keyboard or facetime position) is also stable for me. I can press anywhere on my iPad without worrying about it falling.

If you're a perfectionist-type of a person, I recommend going to an apple store to grab one, because not all of the brand-new cases looked perfect (i.e. with wrinkles and/or discolorations).

The quality of the case to me is worth 4 stars (assuming it won't break easily), but I give it 3 for its high price. As pointed out in the cons section, I am the most afraid it might just tear off eventually, because it seems like glue was used to hang the top cover to the bottom cover... Time will tell.

Not what I expect from Apple

    • Written by from Victoria

I bought a Red smartcase at the same time I ordered my iPad Air. Firstly it is more orange than red, not a huge problem but still. Secondly the case is almost impossible to remove which can be a good thing but not when the case will not allow my headphones to fit into the jack, the case must be partially removed. Also the front of the case will not lay flat against the iPad air so the lock feature does not work unless you push it down. However it still will not lay flat. Will be returning the case. Fairly poor design for $90 Cdn.

    Form > Function... Sort of...

    • Written by from Mountain View

Overall, a sharp case that works OK. The case can be a little unstable in landscape mode as it has a tendency to fall backwards. It takes a little fidgeting, but you'll get it!

The leather is very soft and looks great. I'm excited to see how it ages with use. Since it is made from a natural material, there will be surface defects. As such, I had to go through the whole stack to find one that met my picky requirements.

Beautifully broken in after nine months

    • Written by from Rochester

The smart case is well made. After nine months of use, the marks and darker toned areas developing around the edges from fingers, dirt, desks, dining room tables, et cetera, give the case lots of character. It is great for traveling, and doesn't easily slip from hands when on the move. Five stars.

    Review by and Industrial Designer

    • Written by from Montreal

When I went for my trade-in, I formerly had an iPad 3 with the neoprene magnetic case, I got myself a nice 128 Gigabyte iPad air and evidently following my good experience with the neoprene case I got into the task of looking for the same quality case I so fondly had for the past two years.

Well, I went with the Apple genius with a subdued enthusiasm to "chose" my case, I was almost resolute to get it, with a restraint satisfaction at the solidity of my purchase and my previous experience, and this is what happened; My first let down came when I arrived to the case section on the Apple Store in St-Catherine Street in Montreal, I was shown either the smart cover or the whole leather case, so naturally I asked as per my previous experience where the neoprene cases were, to my disappointment I was told that there were not, so I wondered I would wait a while and then buy it when they arrived, so I asked when they would arrive and was politely informed that there would be none as on they were not going to be manufactured at all... So I went on, unimpressed, to analyse what they had to offer, on first impression the quality seemed good, not striking but good, that tamed my subdued enthusiasm, to some account the leather seemed strange, not quite leathery but somewhat plastic, probably from the tanning treatment to render it more durable. Second and what started to raise some concerns was that I noticed that the cover of the case had not four, as my previous case, but three divisions and thought that does not look good, I could estimate by analysing the thickness and stiffness of the leather and taking into consideration the magnets that could be embedded into the cover, that by no means the folding could hold folded, the force that you would need to have the kind of elasticity rendered by the leather would be far superior, you would need at least four gauss, and judging by the dimensions and limitations, that was not going to happen... What made the previous case superior was the ability to mix traction from four folds and a not so powerful magnetic force, that worked, I also complained a bit about the vertical stand but faired well, which brings us to... third, the stand, on both positions, a big designer NO NO, as I was already kind of disappointed I asked to try the case before buying, the iPad held well inside the case, but as expected when in stand, it tilted with a frightening ease one over time no matter how carefully I tapped the screen on almost every position only when the app bar was used on the lower quart of the screen could some stability be reached, that upset me, then I flipped the stand to inclined position and started to tap on Google search and as if I was taking notes, something that I frequently do, and as expected collapsed one over time. The answer to this issues on the part of the staff was first, the leather will give, to what I answered well then the problem is going to increase because if now it collapses when still stiff, then after it "gives" it will not hold at all, the same held reason for the vertical stand. So finally the support agent told me that yes, they have had some problems with the stand.

What can I say, this is not the quality that I would have expected from a world class company like Apple, disappointed, finished purchasing the cover case by iStore, neither the best nor the worse but does the job, surprisingly good vertical an inclined stand, sturdy and light, magnetic seal, struggle with closing but the protection is there, at least I have a leather sachet that I use for work. Miss my neoprene apple cover though, big misfire by Apple, not impressed.

    Hate the feel/fabric

    • Written by from Sea Girt

Just bought this for my brand new iPad and I absolutely hate it. It claims to be leather but feels more like suede. It is so soft it's slippery I constantly feel like it's going to slip out of my hand and it's always slipping out of the triangle when I try to prop it up. Not only does it feel terrible but I just know this soft fabric is going to be ripped up from being taken all around town in my bag. The pictures make it seem like typical flat to the touch, tough, leather, not this teddy bear delicate kind, I'm returning it immediately.

    Really Disappointed

    • Written by from Candia

When new, this is the most attractive color available and it's very nice to the touch. Six months later and the edges of the cover have absorbed body oils (I suspect) and looks terrible. No complaints about how it works, etc. On the basis of the stains only, I would not recommend buying this expensive cover.
