    Good, not great

    • Written by from Long Beach

I got the case and was impressed by the feel, quality, and fit of it for my iPad air. However, the typing position isn't great - it's a little too low and doesn't feel super secure. The movie position is more secure but only good for viewing applications. I also didn't like that I was forced to buy a leather case for almost $100 when previous generations have offered the polyurethane option for the wrap around case. Also, in the closed position it leaves "fingerprints" on the screen.

    Great case!

    • Written by from Albuquerque

It fits perfectly without adding much weight. I like the feel (and the smell) of it. Besides I don't have any problems standing the iPad in position. This case does exactly what it is supposed to do as it is explained on the back of the box. It is a little expensive but I'm really glad I bought it!

    Provides Good (Not Great) Protection.

    • Written by from McKinney

Case is handsome and provides good exterior protection from scratches but questionable (at best) drop protection. Additionally, if you plan on using other than Apple earbuds for private listening, check that your earphone plug will fit through hole in case. My Etymotic ER-4P earphones do not.

    Very disappointing

    • Written by from Jericho

You would think, considering the relatively high price, that this would be a really nice case for the iPad Air. It's not. Although the case is said to be made of leather, it actually looks and feels more like rubber or vinyl. It attaches snugly to the the outside edge of the iPad, similar to the way a bumper case attaches to an iPhone. While the case is very light weight, which is a plus, it covers over both the on/off and the volume buttons on the iPad with its own built-in buttons, again similar to the way plastic bumpers cover the buttons on an iPhone. This makes the buttons less responsive to the touch and a bit more difficult to use. But what's worse is the very small opening for the lock rotation/mute switch, which makes accessing the switch quite difficult. Bottom line: there are much better designed cases out there for the iPad Air at a fraction of the cost of this one.

    I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up!

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I'm an avid Apple fan who has been consistently drawn to the company's products because of their quality and ease of use. My first of more than 30 computers was the original MacPlus, and my most recent is an iPad Air. The leather case I purchased with my iPad Air is a great cover. However, as a stand it is the worst product Apple product I've ever owned. Heck, my original iPad came with a case that was a far superior stand device than this overpriced horrible excuse for a stand I'm using now. I use an Apple Bluetooth keyboard and still the iPad won't stay up. Ugh! I miss Steve Jobs.

    Nice case, bad stand

    • Written by from Sarver

$80 and does not function very well as a stand in any position. 3 stars because I love the case itself, thin, light, nice! for $40 it is a great case, for $80 as a case and a stand, forget about it!

    GREAT look and feel...

    • Written by from Elmsford

...but the functionality is very poor. I use it a lot and I'm always fidgeting with the cover. There's something wrong with the design of the magnet system. It doesn't hold it's fold properly and therefore is never secure. When used as a stand or prop, it often falls. I've owned every model iPad. This case has the poorest functionality of any I've owned. It is not representative of Apple design quality.

    Great Case

    • Written by from Lansing

The leather brown case is perfect. The feel is amazing and it gives the iPad a more sophisticated look. At first I was worried about the sturdiness while watching a show but the support is great! The only think which I hope will change over time is the cover doesn't lay completely flat. It still puts my iPad to sleep, I'd just prefer it completely flat.

    Quality is just so-so

    • Written by from Battle Ground

I find the case to be flimsy and not what quality I have come to expect from Apple. I have chosen to spend another $20 and get another brand of case with a keyboard.

How poor and low quality product.
It doesn't fit properly the iPad and can not hold it on it.
I strongly recommend you don't buy it.
I really want my money back.
    Shame on you Apple.

    Apple messed up

Should have the 4th fold in the cover to make it more stable. Sorry ipad air isn't that light that it doesn't need the 4th fold.

    Poor design and materials

    • Written by from San Diego

Not a very good design and the material(s) are flimsy. The design is not the best. My problems with the design are the fact the case does not lay flat when open and folded under the case causing a buckle at the first fold. Another design issue is the stand fold option continually fails. The reason I said poor material is because the inability to stay open (stand position) may be due to the material itself.

    Awful

    • Written by from Fullerton

When you fold back the cover, it melts instead of holding firm and giving you a hand grip. It looks nice, it feels nice but it doesn't function AND it's really overpriced. Save your money, and your sanity, buy a 3rd party cover.

    Awesome Concept, Failed Execution

    • Written by from QUINCY

Smart Covers for the previous iPads had 4 panels where panel 1 and panel 4 would magnetically lock together, creating a solid triangular base for use as a stand, or even a left-hand "clutch" in portrait mode while surfing/lounging on the couch.

These new Smart Covers/Cases have 3 panels where the edge of panel 1 sits in a magnetic groove on edge of panel 3. Guess what? It doesn't work for beans. The iPad falls over in both positions, and it falls apart when you try to use it as a "clutch" as previously mentioned.

    Excellent Case!

As promised. Fits perfectly, great feel! Easy initial setup and stable. If my 4 year old can prop it up for viewing and playing interactive educational games anyone should be able to do the same!

Great for a cover, terrible stand.

    • Written by from Santa Monica

I don't usually write reviews, but thought I'd leave one for this. I needed a quick case for my ipad and picked up this one. Protects it great and fits perfect, but the stand part I'd horrible. You have to get it in the perfect spot or the stand won't hold and fall. When more cases come out I think I'll be looking for a replacement.

    Less is not always more...

    • Written by from Troutman

I love the look and feel of this case. However, the design is not as good as its predecessor; the leather Smart Cover. I do like the fact that it covers the front and the back. What's missing? One fold.

The cover for previous generations had 4 flaps that folded nicely into a triangle which provided a solid support / stand. This version only has three and it doesn't hold together nearly as well. Assumedly, it's because of the width reduction of the iPad Air, but in my opinion the scale and width of the four folds should have been scaled accordingly.

    Much improved

    • Written by from Portland

This is an excellent case. It is good-looking, lightweight and fits more snugly than the polyurethane model available for the earlier iPad version. Having the cover folded for typing feels very secure. In the upright position, it is less secure than the earlier four panel cover version, but works very well if you don't push against it too hard. If I typed on it more than an hour a day I would consider a keyboard case, say from Logitech. Otherwise this is a very good trade-off of a little extra weight for protection and added functionality.
