    Change it back

    • Written by from Hood River

I have used the original Smart Cover for the iPad 2 for 3 years. The new cover and case for the iPad Air isn't impressing me. The material is nice, but the design isn't. The cover has one less fold than the previous covers. This causes the incline to feel less secure and the magnet doesn't hold well. I feel like I am always readjusting it and trying to keep it from coming undone. I am writing this review simply to give Apple my feedback in the hopes that they head back to the drawing board on the covers design or head back to the original design. It was far better.

    Not that great, way overpriced.

    • Written by from Raytown

I've had this case for about four months and over that time the cover flap has started to become very flimsy with daily use. It also doesn't work that well when you try to use it as a stand. Honestly it's just not that great of a case, I would look elsewhere. Too overpriced for something that wears down so fast.

Way overpriced & won't stand up

    • Written by from Anderson

Seriously Apple, $80 for this piece of junk?! The old smart cover was better as it could actually keep the iPad in an upright position. This is horrible and you should be ashamed. Send me back $40 and I'll change it to a **, but it's definitely a * in its current form.

    Leather stains

    • Written by from Houston

The problem I have had is that the case looks like trash because the leather absorbs the oils from you fingers and palms. This is normal oil that everyone's hands produce. I would suggest that you Scotch Guard spray your new leather iPad smart case or Apple do something to prevent this problem from happening in the first place.

    I won't use another case

    • Written by from Waverly

The fit, finish, design, of the smart case is perfect. The feel of the leather is exactly what I want to feel when using the iPad. No matter what they did to process it and dye it, it's still a natural material and so it feels great.

I have a love/hate thing with the stand. I use the stand all the time for typing and surfing. It's a great feature. I also use the stand-up feature for watching stuff. However, I WISH there was a happy middle viewing angle. Typing mode is too flat for simple surfing, and watching mode is too vertical and unstable for tapping on the screen. So to solve this, when I really want to sit and use it I have a tablet stand from Am*zon that does the job.

With that said, I won't use another case. This is a tight fit, no loosey goosey covers or padded backs, no fake plastic or vinyl materials. Even when it looks "used" it still looks great. Think vintage. The iPad slips right in too, plenty of protection for a responsible user.

    Absolute Garbage

    • Written by from san Francisco

I have nothing against apple. But, after recently buying a smart case for my ipad air i can say but one thing. ITS HORRIBLE. It does not work the way its advertised at all. It doesn't stand most of the time and when it does a slight nudge will send it falling. Also it certainly is NOT worth the 80$ price tag. BUYERS BEWARE.

I would not have expected such a poorly designed case from apple(what are you doing johnny?)

    Beautiful but flawed

    • Written by from Kailua-Kona

The case is beautiful, the leather is soft and great quality. The brown looks amazing on the white iPad Air...but...the case does not lay flat at the hinge and it's gap does not get smaller with time and use. I am surprised that Apple released this product the way it is now. As a stand it is flimsy and prone to fall, not as good as the previous smart cases that had the 4 separate magnet design(this only has three, probably due to the fact that it's thinner). Hopefully they will release a better version but as of now it's pretty much an $80 pretty looking case that's not functional.

    Great case!

    • Written by from Albuquerque

It fits perfectly without adding much weight. I like the feel (and the smell) of it. Besides I don't have any problems standing the iPad in position. This case does exactly what it is supposed to do as it is explained on the back of the box. It is a little expensive but I'm really glad I bought it!

    Nice case, bad stand

    • Written by from Sarver

$80 and does not function very well as a stand in any position. 3 stars because I love the case itself, thin, light, nice! for $40 it is a great case, for $80 as a case and a stand, forget about it!

    Poor design and materials

    • Written by from San Diego

Not a very good design and the material(s) are flimsy. The design is not the best. My problems with the design are the fact the case does not lay flat when open and folded under the case causing a buckle at the first fold. Another design issue is the stand fold option continually fails. The reason I said poor material is because the inability to stay open (stand position) may be due to the material itself.

    Awful

    • Written by from Fullerton

When you fold back the cover, it melts instead of holding firm and giving you a hand grip. It looks nice, it feels nice but it doesn't function AND it's really overpriced. Save your money, and your sanity, buy a 3rd party cover.

    Much improved

    • Written by from Portland

This is an excellent case. It is good-looking, lightweight and fits more snugly than the polyurethane model available for the earlier iPad version. Having the cover folded for typing feels very secure. In the upright position, it is less secure than the earlier four panel cover version, but works very well if you don't push against it too hard. If I typed on it more than an hour a day I would consider a keyboard case, say from Logitech. Otherwise this is a very good trade-off of a little extra weight for protection and added functionality.

Really nice case... but does it worth $85?

    • Written by from Edmonton

very good quality, fits the ipad air perfectly. it adds some weight... but not too bad....

I know it is a leather case, but $85 is way too much.... $55 will be a acceptable price.

Open Gap and Does Not Turn Off

    • Written by from Senoia

Looks beautiful and feels great. HOWEVER, there is a good sized gap so the cover does not lay flat and that may be why my IPad does not turn off when closed. Or, is it like the refrigerator light and when you peek in the light is always on. Hhm?

    Just ok

    • Written by from Socorro

    The good:
Very nice feel in the hands.
    Provides a good grip.
Colors match their iPhone leather counterparts.

    The bad:
The hinge sticks out too much, breaking the smooth lines of the device and creating an extraneous flap most other cases do not have.
The hinge prevents the top cover from laying fully flat on the iPad screen, something the smart cover does not suffer from.
The stand is way too flimsy.

    Good looking, but poor functionality.

    • Written by from Ventura

Doesn't stand up worth a ding dang. Very frustrating. If you want to prop it up to write emails and stuff, you're gonna hate it.

Stands up ok in the movie viewing format though, as long as you don't breath on it wrong.

I gave it an extra star because it sure looks pretty.

Nice looking but it fell apart

    • Written by from Redondo Beach

I've had the case for less than a year (much less than a year). All the seams have come unglued and the case is now worthless. For the price charged, this should be much more durable. Extremely disappointed.

Lovely case, if you're willing to spend the extra money.

    • Written by from San Jose

Overall the iPad Air Smart Case looks nice, is thin, and somewhat protective. I'm convinced this is real leather because each unit is different; each has different graining and imperfections, which in my opinion gives each a unique look. It does scuff up a bit, but a little rub will most likely alleviate it. The leather is soft to the touch. My favorite thing about this case is it's compactness. It fits the iPad perfectly (no surprise) and it's protective against light drops. A downside I've found with this case is that water is not this thing's friend. It aborbs water, which means it probably wasn't treated with a coating to repel liquids. That shouldn't be something that stops you from buying one, but just be aware. What might stop you from picking one up is price. At $79 this thing is EXPENSIVE. You could get a $20 case from a third party manufacturer, but from the ones I've seen they're either too bulky or just ugly. With that said if you're willing to shell out the extra dough for something more high quality than the average folio people outfit their iPads with, this is a lovely choice.
