Beautifully broken in after nine months

    • Written by from Rochester

The smart case is well made. After nine months of use, the marks and darker toned areas developing around the edges from fingers, dirt, desks, dining room tables, et cetera, give the case lots of character. It is great for traveling, and doesn't easily slip from hands when on the move. Five stars.

    Great case, but beware...

    • Written by from Anchorage

The case has a great look and feel, but it WILL cause yellow stains to invisible shield protectors. My ipad air has the distinct yellow lines matching the folds. Chicken and egg...don't know which is causing it, some chemical in the case (formaldehyde?) reacting with the polymer...or the polymer having some weird property making IT react with the case...either way, it's a GREAT case, easy to snap on and off, fairly protective most importantly, light and thin.

Just be warned if you use zagg invisible shield. (i've been a very loyal customer of zagg since the beginning.

You Get What You Pay For

    • Written by from Miami

The quality is top notch and the functionality is too.

It wakes and sleeps automatically upon opening and closing.

The leather will wear in over time and give your case character.

No complaints. Expensive and worth it.

    Excellent Cover When Used Correctly

    • Written by from Quincy

I'll repeat other reviews suggesting that some people aren't using this case correctly. If you fold the cover with the suede side out, it works perfectly as a stand. As for the gap issue at that leather hinge, once the case has been broken in, the cover sits flush as intended. Be aware that the natural leather cover will show age and it's susceptible to oil stains like any unfinished natural leather products. Personally, I think the natural leather looks better once it's had some break in time. I eventually oiled my cover to give it a deeper natural brown color. It looks great!

    I won't use another case

    • Written by from Waverly

The fit, finish, design, of the smart case is perfect. The feel of the leather is exactly what I want to feel when using the iPad. No matter what they did to process it and dye it, it's still a natural material and so it feels great.

I have a love/hate thing with the stand. I use the stand all the time for typing and surfing. It's a great feature. I also use the stand-up feature for watching stuff. However, I WISH there was a happy middle viewing angle. Typing mode is too flat for simple surfing, and watching mode is too vertical and unstable for tapping on the screen. So to solve this, when I really want to sit and use it I have a tablet stand from Am*zon that does the job.

With that said, I won't use another case. This is a tight fit, no loosey goosey covers or padded backs, no fake plastic or vinyl materials. Even when it looks "used" it still looks great. Think vintage. The iPad slips right in too, plenty of protection for a responsible user.

    The best iPad case !

    • Written by from Tangerang

I don't understand why they keep writing bad reviews for the case. The case work perfect for the iPad air the quality of the leather is great ( I love how it feels ) and the design simply and light. The iPad snap in the case very good, I don't have any problem when using it both stand or typing position.

They keep talking about the price, well if you concerned about the price then you should find other case cheaper rather than keep writing bad review about this case. Honestly before I bought this case I was using other case which is cheaper and have same function, but I returned it because it's too heavy, bulky, and the leather feel bad compared to smart case.

Solid case, perfect fit. Was skeptical after reading review but glad I got

    • Written by from McKinney

I was so skeptical purchasing this case since there were so many mixed reviews. The only thing that made me go ahead and give this a try was the fact that it wasn't a "cheap" case that would fray, crack or not line up properly. I have to say, I am so pleased with this case!!!! It aligns properly, it's a sleek, smooth fit with no gaps and the stand works perfectly. If I smack the case like a toddler or preschooler would, yes it falls over but typing, swiping and clicking with a normal pressure does not cause it to tumble over. Well worth the money.

    Expensive but worth the price!

    • Written by from Raleigh

I bought three different third party ipad cases from amazon for my ipad air because of the price, but non of them were satisfactory. I was hesitant to buy this case because of the price but finally decided to bite the bullet. I am happy with the case because it is light, has feel-good factor to it, made of leather and most importantly provides everyday use protection. I found case hold ipad well as a stand. Yes you can trip it if you really want to, but it is fairly sturdy for use as stand and type. I still think $80 may be a little bit pricey but the case is five star for me.

Point of view, its all about point of view

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

I read reviews everywhere before I made this purchase (brown colour), I gave 5 stars not because I didn't see this smart case flip when on vertical, or easy to get dirty overtime, I do see all the problems, and here is why I gave 5 stars:

    1) when you are carrying a 1 pound iPad in one hand + protection, you could go all the way to otterbox (which I already have 4 different colours on ipad2/3/4), it makes it over 2 pounds heavy. Or you want something light and okay strong with all around protection
    2) when you are a business man, and iPad is your replacement Laptop, you could have shininess case with fake jewel encased, or a folio with pens, business card and a pack of notepad along with it (if this folio is your choice, you are still not fully digitized). Or you probably want something simple looking, fast to take out and start using. (a straight leather briefcase vs. pocket-everywhere-messenger-bag)
    3) Vertical flip problem, if you could train yourself not to touch it too hard, which exist the threshold tension to make it flip over. Smart case actually has the smallest footprint when you are using it vertically on a steady surface. Same idea when you typing onscreen vs. typing on keyboard.
    4) To me, discolouring or getting dirty on leather its a beauty, unlike glossy plastic or shiny metal, as long as its not pizza stink, it will look good in the long run.
    5) Protection, smart case is not military grade or 30m waterproof, but simple enough to sustain casual drop (not those drop test you see in youtube), accident do happen, someone don't even have a scratch with no protection, or someone, like me crack twice even on otterbox defender case (I have 3,5 yr old kid, I know)
    6) Physical keyboard or non? I have Logitech solar power, ultra thin, even an apple BT keyboard for previous generations. Unless you are a type-everyminute person, you just need to roll the smart case in typing mode and lose 1/2 of the screen for <10% of usage a day.

All in all, point of view, when my kids using my iPad with this smart case, my eyes will always on the iPad, when I am on the road, I will feel happy to have the lightness, the look and feel. When I am typing, I don't really miss the physical keyboard as much as I am on the mini.
It is not for everyone, just like the rest of 1,000,000,000 kinds of cases out in the market. But if you are willing to settle one case that works for long time, instead of 5x$20 case/ipad, It is for you!

    Great case!

    • Written by from Piedmont

I love this case! It's a bit pricey but it's a nice case. I know others have complained that the case doesn't lay flat and other issues, well that's not true. It lays flat, feels good in your hand, and fits the ipad air perfectly. The case cost bit more than others but I do like the fact that my ipad air is protected. Besides I don't like cheap stuff (the cheap cases). I like the brown color (like the color of peanut butter) is different than the regular red and black. Hope this review was helpful.

    iPad Air Case

    • Written by from Chicora

After long debate which iPad to get I settled with the iPad Air and LOVE it. I wanted a case that protected it but not something like the Otterbox. I love the thinness and the color. The price is kind of steep, but any Apple product is well worth your money!!!!!!

FOLD WITH MICROFIBER ON THE OUTSIDE

    • Written by from San Diego

90 percent of the one star reviews should get one star for their epic fails at using such a simple and effective product, the SmartCase for iPad Air.

Claim: the case doesn't adequately support the iPad as a stand as the magnets are too weak.

Fact: For some strange reason folks haven't figured out that you are supposed to fold the trifold cover so that the microfiber is on the OUTSIDE. REPEAT - FOLD THE COVER SO THAT THE MICROFIBER IS ON THE OUTSIDE. AND (added bonus) you won't scratch up the cover. When you do it like this the hinge folds over the triangle resulting in a stable support. If you do it with the leather side on the outside, you don't form a stable triangle.

So for those that are thinking about this product, the negative reviews about not being able to use the cover as a stand are from people who are using the product wrong.

Kind of depressing actually, to know that people wouldn't at least try this obvious solution. This is more like one of those problems you give a 6 year old to solve.

    SERIOUSLY, people.

    A brilliant case

    • Written by from Bedford

I got my ipad air for Christmas and I wanted to protect it from scratches and dinks I searched Amazon for cases as this case was quite expensive I found a few but they looked flimsy and cheap so I bought this from apple. It is a great case feels luxurious when holding and is a great stand for watching films on netflix. Well worth the money!

    Excellent case

    • Written by from DAVIS

I purchased the black case for my new black iPad Air after looking at many other cases and reading hundreds of reviews. My case fits perfectly in all respects. The back provides excellent coverage, and the cover fits very well and turns off the screen without any problems. Sure it is expensive, but in my opinion it is a quality product. Lightweight too, and no problems accessing all controls and ports. As others have commented, the cover supports the iPad in landscape mode if you are careful to fold the leather to the inside so that the microfiber is on the outside, and the flap fits into the seam next to the fold. This assures that the magnets hold it in place. Finally, this case works perfectly just like the smart cover did on my iPad 2 for reading in portrait mode. Other cases I looked at had covers that did not fold completely back for reading in portrait mode.

    Everything looks perfect to me....

    • Written by from Santa Barbara

I bought this brown Smart case on December 5, 2013 from Apple store. To be honest, I was kinda worried about some comments about the the cover ... can't stay flat or the stand can't stand still …etc.. But guess what, I don't see those problems... Everything looks or works perfectly fine to me when I put my iPad Air into the case. No hassle at all. The buttons on the side work fine too.

Not sure if Apple has already redesigned the case based on people's complaint or I am just lucky ? I did notice the color and the texture of the leather are slightly different so I’d suggest that you go to Apple store to pick the best one. If you don’t like it, you can return it in 14 days anyway… Take it easy ;)

It fits perfectly without adding much weight. I like the feel (and the smell) of it. Besides I don't have any problems standing the iPad in position. This case does exactly what it is supposed to do as it is explained on the back of the box. It is a little expensive but I'm really glad I bought it!

    Much improved

    • Written by from Portland

This is an excellent case. It is good-looking, lightweight and fits more snugly than the polyurethane model available for the earlier iPad version. Having the cover folded for typing feels very secure. In the upright position, it is less secure than the earlier four panel cover version, but works very well if you don't push against it too hard. If I typed on it more than an hour a day I would consider a keyboard case, say from Logitech. Otherwise this is a very good trade-off of a little extra weight for protection and added functionality.
