    Not safe enough

    • Written by from LONGVIEW

I bought this case when I purchased my iPhone 5S. It looks really nice from all angles. I especially like the feel of the case in my hand-very smooth. Although, the edges of the case are flushed with the phone so the phone's screen could still easily crack if dropped at the right angle, which is what happened to mine. Luckily, I had a glass screen protector so the phone itself was unharmed. If you're prone to dropping your phone, I wouldn't recommend this product.

Red Dye wears off and looks dirty...Go with Black.

    • Written by from Columbia

We have the Black and the Red. The Red looks as if it is dirty and gets that way fast. I tried to clean it with leather cleaner and determined it is not dirt that makes it look that way. It is the Red dye rubbing off and the base is black. Go with the Black...it never looks dirty and has held up quite well.

it really gets dirty too easily - get black instead

    • Written by from Seattle

I read the warnings and the reviews talking about how easily this red color picks up dirt/colors from pockets (especially jeans). I was super careful for a few days but got way too worn. Get the black instead.

    (RED) Porous leather gets dirty

    • Written by from Medford

The package says that the leather product will change appearance over time. What it doesn't say is that it really picks up dirt. Riding transit with this case made the edges even more dirty. I've had this case for four months and tolerated the grime - it basically appears most on the top edge (front face), and along the back edges, where one holds the phone.

I've read that treating this baby with some leather protector could help, but mine was so far gone - I tried leather cleaner for shoes, but it really just took red dye from the product rather than remove any grime. Since it's so old, I don't have any hope of returning this. So I have decided to go with it instead of against it: I have taken a light coat of black shoe polish then leather conditioner to the entire phone. It actually looks better - the parts that were still brighter red have been muted which makes the dirty edges less noticeable.

In all other respects I love this case: form factor, feel, function, etc.

Seems people either love or dislike this product. I recommend with any color, that you find some way of protecting it (research how to protect porous leather)

Good quality construction, but poor resistance to staining.

The red leather looked 12 months old within one day of use. Very disappointing.

    Extremely Disappointing

    • Written by from Toronto

I bought this case because I found the red colour complimented my white iPhone 5s best. It looked beautiful...for about two weeks (and that's being generous). I ignored all the reviews because I really loved the look, feel, and lightness of this case but trust me, all the reviews are all correct. The case gets extremely dirty after a few weeks, and now that I've had it for five months, it's just plain ugly and grungy looking.

Do yourself a favour and find another case to protect your phone. Or if you are in love with the design and lightness of this case, then go with the black one, as that colour will not show wear and tear.

    Apple Iphone 5s leather case

    • Written by from Bakersfield

Nice case in general but in order to charge with an adapter (lighting to 30 pin) you'll have to remove the case. You'll have the same problem with any type of docking station. Major pain and a huge oversight on the part of apple.

Great looking, but gets dirty really fast.

    • Written by from Calgary

I picked this up and fell in love with it right away.

Until it started to get dirty. Which it does. FAST.

While everything about this case's design and functionality is great, I would advise not buying it as it will quickly darken and start looking crummy.

Get the case, but go for black.

    Gets Dirty Easily

    • Written by from Del Mar

Should have some sort of coating. The case will get black around the edges just due to normal handling from in/out of pockets.

Also the plastic frame the leather is bonded to could have been slimmer. Makes the phone bulkier with case on.

Beautiful Case, Wonderful Feel, But Way To Fragile!!!

    • Written by from Seafood

I purchased this case 30 days ago when I purchased my iPhone 5s. The case has an amazing look and feel! Even has that fresh leather smell. I give It 2 star because its way to fragile and very expensive for it to be so fragile.

I went to take the case off my iPhone 5s so I could clean my phone. I was very gentle during the case removal, but that wasn't enough to keep the bottom piece of the case where the lightning connector hole is cut out from snapping. First time I have had a case do this.

Hoping Apple will exchange the case.

    Very slim but instantly dirty

    • Written by from New York

The case fits perfectly and the weight addition is imperceptible but the leather becomes almost instantly dingy as soon as you put it in your pocket or hold it. All the edges wear and change color.

The case looks brilliant when new, but after a few days of use it started to look dirty. Its design and materials are gorgeous BUT its ruined by how quickly it wares. I expected the leather to ware eventually but not after a few days. The off button on the top of the phone was very stiff too, I thought it would soften but it didn't. It is also a struggle to get the phone out. My advice to buyers is that to stay away from the bright colours and go for black as it doesn't show signs of waring.

Snug, soft, but oh so dirty.

    • Written by from Crockett

I knew ahead of time this case would get dirty. I didn't know it would be almost instantly from walking out of the Apple Store when I'd start seeing dark smudges from the inside of my jeans. Still, the case fits nicely, some headphone jacks don't fit, but otherwise a nice case. I recommend the black case instead. Unless you are like me and you don't mind shelling out the $40.

Good start, but not a lasting item

    • Written by from Montpelier

I was quite excited to get an apple (red) case for my new Iphone 5s. I picked one up from an apple store, and put it on immediately. The case fits perfectly, making it the best fitting case I've ever had. In addition, the case is extremely comfortable, and I love the feel of the leather body.

That being said, Im afraid I cannot recommend this case to anyone. Here's why: Durability. Ive owned my case for a month. Already, the bright, beautiful red has turned into a dirt covered maroon. I've tried many cleaners, and nothing will clean it properly. In addition to the looks going to heck, the actual case is deteriorating as well. The occasional (8-10 times total) removal of my phone has caused the case to break by the headphone jack. This in turn prevents the case from gripping the phone effectively, causing it to fall out occasionally.

Though it seemed great at first, this case was not built to last. I was quite disappointed in apple for such a low quality case.

NOTE: If you are still willing to risk a short lived case, please please please go with black, all other colors will turn to a muddy dirt covered version of its original form.

    Pretty for a week

    • Written by from Richmond

I was so happy with this case, and thought my phone was the prettiest things ever...for like a week.

Now I cringe every time I look at it. So dirty. It makes me think I'm a dirty person and I'm not. I'm very disappointed.

As far as protection, it was exactly the level of protection I desire from a case.

    Beautifully designed- but dirt magnet

    • Written by from Cypress

Really nice design when it is new out of the box. But use it for 3-4 days in a "normal" way, and it starts to get dirty and darker around the edges.. I understand the concept of "graceful aging" and when I purchased this, I expected it to start getting dirty eventually... but not that quickly!

As a user, I have always been quite respectful to my phone and its covers... I don't hold them with oily fingers while eating pizza or burger :).. But it doesn't matter- this cover is extremely susceptible to dirt. I suspect the other colors are the same, especially the off-white. I think the only cover that makes sense for normal daily use without worry, is the black one.

    Looks good...for a couple days

    • Written by from Albany

To be fair, the package does say that the leather will change appearance with use. It doesn't really make it clear how much it will change, though. I got the red case about 1.5 months ago, and at this point it looks like trash. It is still firm and snug on the phone, but it has some pretty nasty discoloring and smudging. Rather than looking nicely worn, it looks pretty ugly. Definitely not worth $40.

Great Fit & Feel; Awful Durability

    • Written by from Jacksonville

I was delighted when I received this case and installed it on my iPhone 5. The bright red color was gorgeous and eye-catching which is what I was after…something different to set my phone apart from the sea of black/dark cases I see everyday.

The fit of the case is exceptional and the feel of the leather exterior is great. Unfortunately, the durability here is pretty bad. There is a little notice that came with the case which stated that "the materials used in this case are natural leather and as such will change in appearance with use" (or something along those lines). Indeed…they did change. Considerably.

While the structural integrity of the case hasn't changed or weakened, the color has changed dramatically. The edges of the case (both front & back) have all turned black and the rest of the case has darkened considerably. The bright red overall has faded to more of a brick red color. That alone wouldn't really bother me but the blackening of the edges just looks awful. And this is after only three months of use. :(

If I had it to do over I would go with a black case as I think it wouldn't show its age much. But my advice is to stay away from any of the lighter colors.

Poor design- don't spend the money

    • Written by from Laverock

Apple certainly doesn't put any real design effort into accessories. This case looks OK but provides little protection. To push buttons you have to mash on the leather case and it is difficult to adjust volume or turn the phone on or off. The cut out for the charging cord is too small to accommodate the adapter for an old 30 pin power cord.
And you get all this for about forty bucks that could be much better spent elsewhere.
