headphone jack doesn't work with phone calls

    • Written by from Emeryville

the headphone jack on the dock works with music, podcasts, videos... pretty much everything EXCEPT phone calls. wasn't a problem with previous docks because the jack was on the top of the phone, but now that it's at the bottom i would have assumed the new dock would compensate. it doesn't. and since i need to be able to use headphones with phone calls, this dock is worthless. 30 bucks to make the phone stand upright? i'm a fool.

    Great idea but poorly developed!

    • Written by from Jacksonville

I was excited to hear that Apple was again making docks for my iPhone 5 because I've owned previous models. When I purchased the iPhone 5S I went out the next day and bought the Apple dock.

I think its a great product however there's a little issue that I find distracting. That is, when you have the phone docked with the iPhone 5S its a bit cumbersome to use the TouchID with your fingers because the very front is slightly blocking your finger from using the TouchID.

I'm going to use it for a few days to see how much it bothers me but I have a feeling I'll be returning it.

I hope this helps someone that may be interested in purchasing.

    WARNING TO SKIN USERS!

    • Written by from Phoenix

I got this dock for my new iPhone 5; stoked they made one this year for it... as I was putting my iPhone 5 down in it to charge, it wasn't going very easily. I was wondering why this was the case, as my 4S went in its official Apple dock just fine. I look at the back of my phone, and my Zagg InvisibleShield is suddenly coming off like it had been peeled.

The fit is so tight on this it's purely meant for a naked device. Period. Before you buy this dock, ensure you cut the bottom skin part of your iPhone that's the glossy part. That should be enough room to get this to go in there.

Shame, as I had my 4 back skinned, and never had this issue... Otherwise, great!

Seriously? Doesn't work with Apple custom leather case?

    • Written by from Fort Irwin

So, let me get this straight. Great phone, great dock, great leather case. Only one of the last 2 goes with the phone at any one time. C'mon Apple! You should know better than to create one product that makes it difficult or impossible to use another of your own products! How about bringing back the old insert thing, with one for the phone alone, and one with the beautiful leather case?

    Close but no cigar

    • Written by from Philadelphia

I hate to be negative but was Steve Jobs the only person at Apple that thought outside of the box?? First, they wait a year to make this product. When they finally do, it's subpar. I'm glad it charges but did they forget that people want to charge their phone without having to remove the case?? There's just enough space for the phone. And like the other review said, the front partially covers the home button. Not a great idea if you user wants to unlock using their fingerprint. Major oversights in my book.
Side Note: So far I do love the iPhone 5s.

    Finally An Apple Dock, But...

    • Written by from Winnipeg

I'm very happy that Apple finally made this dock! I hated using 3rd party docks because they tend to be on the ugly side. I like the look of this dock. It's classic Apple. And it does what docks do. Charges, syncs, and is a nice little home for my iPhone 5. However, the two main things I do not like are that the home button is partially covered by the dock when the phone is sitting in it. Apple seems to be really slacking off on little design details like this lately. Also, the dock is light, so you will have to hold it down when you take the phone out of it. It's not heavy enough to use with just one hand. But all in all I do like it, just not 5 stars. I'd really give it 3.5 stars but can't do that here so I gave 3. Oh, it SHOULD be cheaper for what it is and what it does. I mean it's essentially just a differently-shaped power adapter.

    Finally!

    • Written by from Chamblee

After waiting patiently for an official Apple Lightning dock for a year now, I can finally breath a sigh of relief! It has a great, sturdy, construction and is very small. So small I thought my phone wouldn't fit. Thanks Apple!
