    Volume DOESN'T WORK

    • Written by from Irvine

Given that the main reason I purchased the docks was to be able to plug my headphones in without the phone having to be laying on my desk.

    Think about it APPLE

Should be able to dock with leather case

    • Written by from Kirkland

Just got mine in the mail. I was excited, because I've been futzing with the plug-in cable for the past few weeks waiting for the dock to rescue me and make my life easier. Very disappointed. I spend more on Apple products knowing that I'm getting clean design and high quality. This seems like a big oversight. Still wondering why Apple doesn't have a wireless charger like the Windows Phone does. You simply set your phone on top of the docking pad and it vibrates (letting you know it's charging) and next morning, you're good to go. Sure hope that Apple takes these comments seriously and considers the overall design of both the phone and the accessories and peripherals before the next big release. I wonder if Apple is getting a bit sloppy after all of it's success?

Terrible design, almost like Apple didn't design it

    • Written by from Reston

This Dock is elegantly designed to hold the iPhone 5s upright and charge it. It looks pretty but that's the end of the good part. There is a basic lack of functional design here-there is no way to use this dock with any case that I tried, including some third party low profile cases. The bottom of the iPhone fits so securely into the dock (for support I suppose) that there is no clearance for any case at all. I also highly doubt the claim that you can use this dock for speakerphone calls, since the speaker is covered completely. Users like me really want a functional, workable dock from Apple.

No volume or phone call to headphones support

    • Written by from Madison Heights

Can't listen to anything while docked because the volume is stuck at maximum with no ability to change. And if you do decide to listen, you can't take any calls through your headphones. At least the first issue seems like it should just be a firmware update to the phone to fix. Get at it.

    Lack of design, major FAIL!

    • Written by from TURLOCK

I've been an apple fan for years, from my I-mac computers which I use for work and personal use, I-pad and I phone 5s. The fact that apple would make a charging dock that lacks the ability to support it's own case while charging is a MAJOR FAIL! I have a great third party charging dock that looks JUST LIKE THIS one purchased on amazon at cost of minimal cost of 5.69+ free shipping works great and you can keep your case on. This also goes for many of apple accessories.... people go to amazon . com and type in any accessories for your I-phone, I guarantee you will only pay 1/3 of the cost. Dunno if apple will take this review down but given the fact on-line shopping is the wave, do your homework. Happy New Year and Happy shopping!

    Blocks home button

    • Written by from New York

Given the hoopla surrounding the new fingerprint ID technology on the iPhone it's particularly puzzling why they would design the dock to block a portion of the button. This makes it very difficult to use as fingerprint ID and annoying to push at other times.

    Could have been perfect...

    • Written by from Elyria

At first glance, this dock seems perfect. But...

When I plugged my Apple headphones into this dock, I was a little saddened to find that the headphone controls do not function (play/pause, next track, volume). Although, this was disappointing, the real deal-breaker was finding out that when the phone is docked, there is absolutely no way to control the volume level at all.

This makes it practically useless. $29.99 to prop your phone up off the desk. :-(

Not compatible with Apples OWN Leather Case

    • Written by from Waterbury Center

Wish I had seen the earlier review stating that it was NOT COMPATIBLE with Apples own LEATHER CASE but I purchased before the date it was posted.
The only way to use the dock is to take the case off.
This product deserved another one star review which is why I added it.
I do not believe it will work with any case.

    Can only use without case.

    • Written by from Toronto

The biggest problem with this device is that you can't use a case with it. Not even a really narrow one.

I exchanged this and went with the Belkin dock that works with cases.

I bought this dock thinking I could use it at my desk to charge and play music simultaneously.Thinking it would have the same function as plugging it into the lightning cable and listening with earphones, unfortunately, there is no volume control when the iphone is docked and its way too loud to listen with earphones. There's no earpod remote capability and its only use now is a pretty stand up charger.

What a waste!! Apple, you're going to be the next Sony!!!

I have already got an experience with my earlier dock with Apple 4

    • Written by from New Taipei City

I have already got an experience with my earlier docking station with Apple 4, because with any type of casing on the iphone it will not fit and sit on the docking station. I had to remove the casing and then place my iphone on the docking station a bit annoying. Some technology and techniques has not been done well. I think while placing the iphone it should have a support on the back and lower the front side so at least you can touch and use the home button. I took a look at the new docking station for Iphone 5S I think not well designed. These companies should modify and work on it according to so many of our reviews will give them more idea how to rework on the model. Good Luck

I hate to just complain about products but this... It would be nice if the phone sat a little more slanted back. I'm surprised to see that Apple finally made 5c and 5s cases and docks, but for some reason didn't make this dock compatible. So you'll have to take the case off every time you want to use this dock. Another thing I don't understand at all is that, the 3.5mm line out jack can be used for music, movies, podcasts, etc but not phone calls. Same 3.5mm jack on the Apple earphone, or for most earphones for that matter, so why can't it work for calls? That's a main purpose of a dock, no?

    Bogles My MInd

    • Written by from Arlington

How can a company pretty much change and set the pace of the tech industry and at the same time fall short when it comes to designing a simple stand for the phone????? I would put many more question marks with that first question but you get the idea. I am starting to think Apple is just screwing with us when it comes to this dock. I know they have seen the reviews from its customers over the years about this dock. Still they make the same mistakes. They must be messing with us. Anyway, Im not a happy customer and Apple you need to stop messing around and make an Awesome dock to go with your Awesome phone. Wish I had a sweet dock to go with my new 5s. Thanks Apple!!

re: Nice look, but not thought through

    • Written by from Kuala Lumpur

    The dock "looks" great.

However, 2 main flaws which Apple could have done better:

    1) The front of the dock covers part of the home button. So it's just a bit awkward when you try to press the home button.

    2) The dock is too light, so when you try to remove your phone, you will have to use both hands.

Another Sign of Apple Losing Direction

    • Written by from Wellington

This dock for the iPhone 5s loses important functionality over previous docs.
    1.Home Button partially covered.
    2. Cannot control audio on phone when listening to it (unbelievable that apple made that mistake.)
    3. Does not fit with cases.

If we take this dock, and consider what has happened to keynote and pages (the new versions) it appears apple is becoming sub par to it competitors.

    Almost Useless

    • Written by from CEDAR FALLS

The 5s dock does NOT work with the new leather case. You must pry the case off the phone every time you want to dock it. Almost useless.
