I spend like $100 on all these adaptors and the dock...and none of them can work with out 5c or 5s. WHY? Because we bought APPLE cases. Really APPLE? You don't tell us these do not work with your own cases???

Ridiculously expensive, came with no cables, and you cannot fit an iphone with any case whatsoever on this thing. Since I would bet 90 percent of people have a case on their expensive phone, who can use this without a hassle? Awful design.

Excellent item for your iphone 5's

    • Written by from Chicago

Great item. I get home and drop it into the cradle and it begins to charge and sync. Sometimes I connect it and leave it in the kitchen and when I get home I slide it down. Does exactly what it should. I hardly use a case, but when I do I just take the case off. No biggie. Thanks for finally making a dock for the 5. Great Work !

    looks nice but functionality lacking

    • Written by from Waltham

So it's slim and looks nice compared what is offered out there by third party manufacturers. That being said... I like to have my iPhone docked and charging and I would plug in my headphones so I could take phone calls using my Apple Earbuds. Well, the aux port on the back doesn't pass through any of the controls of the Apple Earbuds. In fact, when it's in the dock, you can't even control the volume of the music so make sure the external speakers you use (not headphones) have independent volume controls. I'm most upset that it doesn't pass through the phone call through the headphones. I guess I could have done a little more research but oh well, I do like the dock but it is really lacking for what I used the old iPhone 4S dock for.

    Great Idea-Poorly Executed

    • Written by from Wilmington

I really like my iPhone 5S which was an upgrade from the 4. I like using the phone in its pure form without a case but gradually my camera lens became scratched on my iPhone 4 over time (a slight recess would correct this).

Now I want to get the Apple leather case to help protect my iPhone 5S and get the Apple base. Apple you do an excellent job with the integration of technology and product quality but having the base designed in a way which can only be used without a case is poor design execution and lacks the attention to detail you are known for!

I read the Steve Jobs book written by Walter Isaacson. Steve was famous for saying "this is sh**" and thats exactly what this is!! I cannot believe he would have ever excepted this poorly executed design.

Integrate the design to work with ALL of your products please!

Sheer idiocy on the part of other reviewers.

    • Written by from Berne

It’s incomprehensible just how stupid some people can be when purchasing and reviewing a product. That the iPhone 5S dock does not accommodate cases is a failing on the part of the user, not of Apple. As someone who has used a first-gen iPhone daily since Launch Day 2007 without a single scratch on it, I can say that it is the user’s fault for needing a case, much less having one. The 5S dock is spectacular–as good as the original’s, and using an iPhone naked is always the way to go. Take care of your stuff; my stars. And do some research before buying.

    Horrible design

My iphone 5S will only fit in the doc if it's not in a case? Terrible. I can't give less than one star (or I would)

    Ok but limited

    • Written by from Tacoma

First if you review the dock itself it does exactly what it is suppose to. The only problem is when paired with iPhone 5s the lip of the dock interferes with Touchis unlock, and when paired with the Apple branded iPhone 5s case it does not even fit. Poor design in retrospect.

Phone + Case Doesn't Fit In Dock

    • Written by from Sandy

Was very disappointed to learn that, with the Apple-designed case, the phone won't fit in the dock.
I hope Apple will come up with a solution!

Don't buy dock and case together

    • Written by from Orange

Purchased 5s, case, dock - all together, in store, same order. Did they mention that the dock is completely useless to me because the case won't fit in it? No. They did, however, advise that there is no easy way to take the case off the phone, and that once it is on you are best just to leave it on... So again, why sell me a useless piece of plastic as well?

    Too Tight

    • Written by from Flanders

I got this dock to use on my desk while working so I could easily see and control my music. There are issues with the home button being partly blocked making it difficult to get a fingerprint but I could live with that.

The issue I am having is that this dock is so precisely molded to the iPhone 5s that even a screen protector on the back won't fit. There is plenty of room for a screen protector on the front but if use a full body protector (Zagg Invisible Shield) you will encounter issues.

    don't bother

    • Written by from Chicago

Unless you just want to dock a phone without a case, don't bother. I cannot take the case off every time I want to charge/dock my phone. So, it's pretty useless for me. Will be returning. Clearly, lacks creativity in design. I would prefer to give it zero stars.

    Great to Have

    • Written by from Boynton Beach

First thing to know is that this will NOT work with iPhones which have a case on them. This is only to be used with naked iPhones. I deducted one star for this reason as I know many like to have their iPhones wrapped up in a case.
I do not like to use cases on my iPhone, preferring to hold and appreciate the iPhone in its pure form. Yes, it gets a little scratch or nick here and there but I hate covering it up (as I did with a few previous iPhones. The iPhone sits snuggly in place when docked and gets its charge. The dock is a clean and small device with enough heft to it in order to hold the phone firmly in place on your desk. Having the dock instead of just the wire sitting on my desk looks so much better and I am much more apt to charge my iPhone by placing it in the dock so I have yet to run out of power due to typical use.
If you don't use an iPhone case and want to have a clean look to your desk, get one of these.

    Lack of Foresight and Vision

    • Written by from Chattanooga

Home run for the 5s but...please tell me that the team that designed the dock is now working for another company. I was in shock to know that you must remove the very nice leather case to charge your beautiful phone. Come on, the "Apple manufactured and designed dock" should accommodate the "Apple designed and manufactured phone" shouldn't it? Call me crazy or maybe I need to just adapt to a lower standard. Wow! Very disappointed. Im now stuck with a nice paper weight.

Should've read reviews before I bought it!

    • Written by from Fort Myers

Bought the iPhone 5s leather case and dock today. Put my case on the phone and opened the dock, just to realize that the opening is very small and the phone would not fit with the case on. I'm not going to take the case off every time I want to put the phone on the dock so I will have to return it. I wish the gentleman at the Apple store who sold me the 2 accessories would have let me know it wouldn't fit in the dock prior to purchasing, though!! I am surprised that Apple wouldn't design the dock to be compatible with their own case.

    Returning to Apple

    • Written by from Seattle

I will be returning this dock to Apple. As other reviewers have indicated, this does not work well with the new iPhone 5s. The main reasons I'm returning are:
    1. When docked, the front edge of the dock covers the bottom edge of the fingerprint sensor making it impossible or at the very least, challenging to unlock the phone using your fingerprint.
    2. When docked, the volume controls are disabled. I listen to music at work, so typically will dock the phone and plug the earpods into the audio jack on the back of the dock. At that point the volume control on the iphone screen as well as the volume control on the earpods do not work.

Will consider buying in the future if Apple can get the volume control issue resolved.
