    Terrible Implementation

    • Written by from Rocklin

Apple push selling a case with the iPhone 5c, but the case has to be removed every time I dock. Plus i can't dock with the earphones attached.

Someone needs to have a word with the marketing team - what were they thinking?

    Great Dock

    • Written by from Cocoa

So glad to see the return of docks for the iPhone. Yes, this dock does not work with a case. Of course it doesn't, because you cannot make a dock that will fit every case there is. On the flip side if you design a dock for even the Apple leather case then someone who does not use a dock will have a problem. The answer is to make the dock fit an iPhone without a case. Why? Because regardless of what case you have they all can be taken off and the iPhone will still work in the dock.

    No real audio out!

    • Written by from Winchester

I can't believe that the only way to hook an iPhone 5 up to a stereo is with the 3.5 mm headphone jack. The nice little dock I used to use with my 3GS is still sitting on top of my stereo. Oh well, there's always bluetooth...

Lacking volume control for audio out port

    • Written by from Chesterfield

If you're looking for a dock that does more than stand your phone up and charge it (i.e. if you're looking to hook up headphones without a volume control built into its cable, such as high-end Sennheisers) this is not the dock for you. You cannot actually adjust the volume output level with the dock, with the iPhone instead opting to output at full volume level. This obviously does not work well with headphones unless you're looking to go deaf in an hour. Now I've got to return both of these that I bought because the primary reason I got them was so my iPhone wouldn't have to be in my lap or a pocket when listening to music at my office.

Only works on a case-less phone. Nonsense!

    • Written by from Nashua

So I had read the reviews on this dock and decided I'd give it a try. Got mine today and was thinking I'd have no problem using it since I specifically got a slider case so I could take off the bottom portion of the case. Well, that worked ok until I got my Zagg Invisible Shields installed. I always protect my phone, front and back. Just the little bit of thickness that those add makes it so I can't put my phone in the dock. It just starts peeling the Zagg's. I'm thinking the 5c dock might work but I'm not willing to take the chance. I'll be returning my 5s dock on Saturday.

Good for charging or sync....if no case. Don't expect to use headphones.

    • Written by from Needham

Looks good. However, I heartily wish I hadn't bought it.

Pro: holds a iPhone 5s to charge it....[con]: if it has no case (or if it is a split case where bottom folds away to give access).

Other cons: once it is plugged in:
    1) TouchID is awkward (though not impossible). But so clearly a design fail it is annoying.

    2) The audio controls are suddenly lost if you plug in headphone Specifically: a) the line-out volume is at a fixed volume and CANNOT BE CHANGED---either by the phone sliders, the phone volume buttons, or control built into headphones. Clearly, this is meant for situations where you are plugging it into an amplifier at some point (though others have noted line out signal can be too strong). But it makes using the phone with headphones impossible. In addition, you can no longer use the controls on the headphones to advance/pause etc: you need to work the phone, which is teetery.

Overall: Fail. Would have been better if it were just a dumb stand that extended the ports--at least then it would. This bit where it removes functionality when you plug it in bewilders me. (Others say remote control no longer works also). To add insult to injury, it doesn't even come with a cord. I end up plugging the USB/Lightning adapter straight into my phone, where it works find, and leave the $$$$ dock sits in a desk.

    Miss the remote control!

    • Written by from Campbell

I like the new doc for its sleekness and simplicity...but with my 4S, that doc would work with a remote control for easy remote on/off and volume control etc. Why reduce functionality but keep the cost up? To use my older models I had to buy an adaptor at the same cost of the doc, essentially doubling the cost of a doc. However, this adaptor did raise the iPhone up to eliminate the cumbersome access to the thumb print button mentioned by another reviewer. If it would have come with the remote, I would have given it a 5 star...but without, it only gets a 3 star.

re: Nice look, but not thought through

    • Written by from Kuala Lumpur

    The dock "looks" great.

However, 2 main flaws which Apple could have done better:

    1) The front of the dock covers part of the home button. So it's just a bit awkward when you try to press the home button.

    2) The dock is too light, so when you try to remove your phone, you will have to use both hands.

I'm baffled at all the negative reviews about the lack of usability of the phone while docked. The product is mean for you to put the phone in it overnight to charge. Why would anyone expect or want to use their iPhone while in a charging dock?

    Very poorly executed!

The dock doesn't work with any case...not even the Apple branded leather case for the 5S! You can barely get the phone to fit in the dock w/o the case. I returned it. This product was a huge miss on Apple's part.

    Buy the Belkin dock!

    • Written by from Astoria

Bought this because I wanted to use the product Apple designed. Unfortunately you can't use it when you use a case on your iPhone. Also Touch ID is not easily accessible. Design goes out the window when something is not completely functional.

Go buy the Belkin iPhone Dock. Will most likely work with your case, and also comes in multiple colors and Touch ID is accessible.

    Headset not working when docked

Should be able to dock with leather case

    • Written by from Kirkland

Just got mine in the mail. I was excited, because I've been futzing with the plug-in cable for the past few weeks waiting for the dock to rescue me and make my life easier. Very disappointed. I spend more on Apple products knowing that I'm getting clean design and high quality. This seems like a big oversight. Still wondering why Apple doesn't have a wireless charger like the Windows Phone does. You simply set your phone on top of the docking pad and it vibrates (letting you know it's charging) and next morning, you're good to go. Sure hope that Apple takes these comments seriously and considers the overall design of both the phone and the accessories and peripherals before the next big release. I wonder if Apple is getting a bit sloppy after all of it's success?

Terrible design, almost like Apple didn't design it

    • Written by from Reston

This Dock is elegantly designed to hold the iPhone 5s upright and charge it. It looks pretty but that's the end of the good part. There is a basic lack of functional design here-there is no way to use this dock with any case that I tried, including some third party low profile cases. The bottom of the iPhone fits so securely into the dock (for support I suppose) that there is no clearance for any case at all. I also highly doubt the claim that you can use this dock for speakerphone calls, since the speaker is covered completely. Users like me really want a functional, workable dock from Apple.

Not compatible with Apples OWN Leather Case

    • Written by from Waterbury Center

Wish I had seen the earlier review stating that it was NOT COMPATIBLE with Apples own LEATHER CASE but I purchased before the date it was posted.
    ------
The only way to use the dock is to take the case off.
    ------
This product deserved another one star review which is why I added it.
    ------
I do not believe it will work with any case.

    looks nice but functionality lacking

    • Written by from Waltham

So it's slim and looks nice compared what is offered out there by third party manufacturers. That being said... I like to have my iPhone docked and charging and I would plug in my headphones so I could take phone calls using my Apple Earbuds. Well, the aux port on the back doesn't pass through any of the controls of the Apple Earbuds. In fact, when it's in the dock, you can't even control the volume of the music so make sure the external speakers you use (not headphones) have independent volume controls. I'm most upset that it doesn't pass through the phone call through the headphones. I guess I could have done a little more research but oh well, I do like the dock but it is really lacking for what I used the old iPhone 4S dock for.

    To Small

    • Written by from Toronto

I bought this product recently and I'm returning it now. The dock is small and can't even hold my iPhone 5 with a case. If you love having a case on your iPhone at all times, and not taking it off to charge, then don't get this dock. If you don't use any cases, then this dock is perfect for you.
