    Seriously!

    • Written by from Auburn

I would understand if this dock would not be compatible with a non Apple case, but the fact that it won't work with the Apple 5s leather case is ridiculous. This dock will only work if you do not use a case on your phone and let's be honest who pays this much for a phone and doesn't put a case on it. Very disappointed. Don't waste your time or money.

    Falls Short

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

I really liked the idea of the dock but this dock is designed very poorly. The home button is difficult to use because it's partially obstructed by the dock. It's hard to imagine how that got through Apple QA. I also think that the tilt to the phone is not enough of a tilt. More often than not, you are going to be looking down at your phone in the dock, so a good dock should really have more of a tilt. I really wanted to love this product but i'm finding it virtually useless.

    Works perfectly! Love it.

I don't have a case on my iPhone 5S, so the dock works perfectly for me. It doesn't cover up the home button or in any way impede its functionality, as others have stated; and even if it did, I don't use my phone when it's in the dock charging. Phone clicks nicely/securely into place, an improvement over Apple's dock for the iPhone 4 (my last phone). Highly recommend.

Can't be used with any case or screen protector

    • Written by from Rye

Was excited to see a new dock for the iPhone 5s. I am using front and back screen protection from Power Support Intl. Not even a case and the phone can barely fit in the dock without ripping up the back protection. The dock is so tight it is useless. Very surprised at their lack of design on this product.

    Serves it's purpose

I have been waiting for this since I purchased the iPhone 5 and am really happy it has finally arrived! Granted, it doesn't work with a case so if that it what you need it for consider the Belkin or some other non-Apple product. But if you don't use a case and are looking for a simple reliable way to stand up your iphone this is the best product on the market. Believe me, I've spent hundreds on other solutions waiting for this. The iPhone 5 slips right into this case, you can even do it in the dark (unlike the Belkin). And that's all I was looking for, a simple stand that I can leave my phone in by my bed. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the home button slightly covers the home button, easily solved in the next design. If apple will make a solution for the new iPad I'd consider buying a new iPad. But not until then.

Does Not Fit With Any Case Not Even The Ones Sold By Apple

    • Written by from Saint Peters

I liked the idea of this product; finally one that seam like it would be worth having, like the connector for the speakers. The Issue was that the phone would not fit with the Apple case on and with any other case for that matter. GREAT IDEA, big miss. I had to return mine. SO MUCH FOR AN INTEGRATED FUNCTUNAL DESIGN. BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME! and yes I returned it.

    Really??

    • Written by from Albertville

The dock is useless if you have a case. Even if you have the Apple leather case that is made for the phone! The phone only fits in the dock WITHOUT a case on it. How dumb is that?

Really? Once again missing the boat on docks and cases.

    • Written by from KINGSTON

Apple, why is it that you are the innovators but sometimes seem to lack thought on product design. Which is something you are known for innovative products and design. You finally get the case right (for the most part) on the 5s and you give us back a dock with no option to use the beautiful phone and case together. Most of your customers I would suspect, like me do not want to keep taking the case off to put it in the dock (it wears out the case faster). Also, what is the point of the touch ID if the dock partially covers the button?

I would really prefer and apple dock to more expensive decent looking 3rd party docks or less expensive ugly docks, but if you build something that is less functional and practical what is the use? Please fix this going forward.

    THE Apple 5S Dock!!!

    • Written by from Jeddah

In addition to most of the criticisms on this new dock by other reviews, my dock was DOA!!! Iow, it does not recharge my iPhone. I can recharge with the USB cable alone, but not while connected to the dock. It will cost me more to return to Apple, so I'm just going for a 3rd party dock, at this point. I didn't even want to give it 1 star, but Apple is forcing me to give at least one. :-(

A dock is for convenience and one hand operation. This doesn't.

    • Written by from West Palm Beach

A dock should be for making it easy to plug in and unplug to a charger via the dock. This dock is very difficult to use, though. It is a two handed operation to undock the phone. Also, the dock is too high on the home button, partially covering it, making it difficult to use thumbprint unlock while docked. Huge disappointment.

    USELESS IF PURCHASE APPLE CASE

I should have read reviews. I bought the apple leather case, now phone will not fit in the dock. So disappointed. Apple should make a dock to fit an Apple I phone 5S with Apple case.

how to use dock with Touch ID

    • Written by from Fresno

My 5S was delivered today, and it works great with the dock. I'd read reviews saying the dock doesn't work well with touch ID so I'd been thinking about it while waiting for the 5S to arrive. I figured out how to make it work well:

    1) Run the Settings app
    2) General
    3) Touch ID & Passcode
    4) Touch ID
    5) Add a Fingerprint…

At this point instead of scanning the pad of your finger, scan the tip.

    A dock of no use

    • Written by from Schaumburg

I bought this dock for my new iPhone 5S. I had also purchased the Leather cover from Apple.
to my frustration first the dock cant fit with my iphone 5s if I use my cover. Seriously this is impractical. The iphone 4 and 4s had better cases the glass can break but it was a lot rigid. I had to buy the case as many of my colleagues having iphone 5 complained of dents. So I cant risk the phone using it without the case. And once I use the case the phone wont fit the dock. The other annoyance as with any other dock from Apple, well they never provide extra cable for the dock nor speaker aux cable or earphones. for $29 can give something for the user than just a block with a pin and ports to use whatever came with the phone.
Ideally at office or by the bed stand one would prefer using a dock and giving away just an additional cable wont cost much for Apple. And the logic of not having a additional slot expansion for apples own phone case use is absurd. I returned it, after looking at it for nearly an hour why the beauty wont fit my world, safe and sound.

    Poor Design

    • Written by from Bondurant

It doesn't work with any case on your phone, no matter how thin. They really didn't think this one through. The new lightning design is not long enough to charge with the case on. We had the old ones that worked with any case we had on our 3S or 4S 30 pin plug.

    Useless with 30pin-lightning adapter

    • Written by from Atlanta

First thing first, when I open the box, they dock look beautiful. The TouchID is not quite a problem for me because it does work every time I unlock the phone. I rarely use headphone with my phone anywhere because I wear bluetooth headset all the time. But one big bad thing about this dock is I cannot use Apple own 30-pin to lightning to the dock at all. Just by connect the cable adapter to the dock without connecting to anything else yet, my phone show a message say that this accessory is not support by this phone. Apple made this two product, yet they still cannot work together? I find that a pretty bad implementation not usually found in Apple product. This time you guys mess up big time.

Doesn't work with a 30 pin cable and lightening adapter!

    • Written by from Santa Barbara

I have an iPad with a 30 pin connector and the new iPhone with a lightening connector. So I use my iPad charger, put on a 30 pin to lightening adapter and plug it into this dock. At first this worked - sort of. I'd get a message that this accessory is not supported for this device. But it would still charge the phone.

Now - maybe after the latest iOS7 update? - it doesn't work at all. I can still charge the phone with the cable and lightening adapter, but not with the dock attached.

Seriously? This is an Apple charger, an Apple cable, an Apple adapter and an Apple dock charging an Apple phone. And it doesn't work. Seriously?

Other than that it's a sleek little dock that holds the phone firmly.

Apple's iphone 5 dock is perfectly designed...

    • Written by from Diamond Bar

I have come to expect excellent design from Apple. One of the only companies that I have basically accepted and trusted for all of their designs to hit the mark in a consistent group right on the bulls-eye.

The iPhone 5 dock is not different. It is a dock, intended for easily connecting your iPhone without having to fumble with cables, and being able to see the display easily. Connecting with your audio equipment via one connection. And, still looking simplistically classic (Apple style).

For each person who thought it should accommodate a case, I want to say "unreasonable!" because you can't possibly design for all the varying cases and provide the necessary physical support for the phone. duh.

Those who think it is too light, seriously(?), and if it was heavier many would complain. Think! we are going after LIGHTER products... we don't want "MacRocks", we want Mac Air's... light is better... (duh).

And the audio port, might not be convenient for a lot of people, because they expect if they can plug their headphones in, it should work. There are important reasons (which I wont go into) why you will never have a powered audio connection come from the lightning connector on a dock. It is as simple as that. It is like using a fire hydrant to wash your hair... not practical. The audio out is for feeding your audio into a self-powered audio system... not headphones. This is the best design possible.

So, many of the bad reviews for this dock are from people who "JUST DON'T GET IT"... 'nuff said!

The price is typical apple (well designed, not extremely cheap). The shape is classic. The functionality is at maximum capacity (i.e. you can't get any better).

If you want a dock for your iPhone, this is the dock to buy. If you want to plug your headphones into a cheesy piece of plastic, buy a Belkin. (Sorry Belkin.)
