    No Longer works.

    • Written by from Baldwin Park

I bought this at the same time as my 5S from the Irvine Apple Store on the day the 5S went on sale. I loved my Apple dock while I had my 4S, so I had to get it for my 5S. It worked fine - as I do not use a case (thanks to AppleCare+), until last night. Inserted my phone and nope tone. I made sure it was seated all the way, and the cable on the back was connected. Still no charging. I changed the lightning cable and that did not change anything. Looks like I'll have to take it back to the Apple Store. The only thing I would change about the dock, is there should be a cut out for the home button. Once its in and charging, you can not do a finger scan due to the dock blocking the home button. Other than that it works as its supposed to...

    Apple could have done better

    • Written by from Santa Barbara

Good dock overall but any surprises are probably on the negative side.
    - The Home button is somewhat covered (bottom 5% of the bottom only, yet still not super easy to use)
    - The accessory only works with "powered" speakers... so it won't work with the default apple headphones for example if you want to have the iphone docked on your desk and listen to music/take calls through the "line out" connection.

    Miss the remote control!

    • Written by from Campbell

I like the new doc for its sleekness and simplicity...but with my 4S, that doc would work with a remote control for easy remote on/off and volume control etc. Why reduce functionality but keep the cost up? To use my older models I had to buy an adaptor at the same cost of the doc, essentially doubling the cost of a doc. However, this adaptor did raise the iPhone up to eliminate the cumbersome access to the thumb print button mentioned by another reviewer. If it would have come with the remote, I would have given it a 5 star...but without, it only gets a 3 star.

Works fine, but where's the remote

    • Written by from Yass

When I had a 4S I had a similar dock which I connected to a speak in my office and listened to music. I could turn the volume up and down with a remote, or off when the phone rang. The new version does not seem to support this. Yes, it enables me to keep the phone charged whilst I listen to music, but the lack of remote is an oversight.

    Are you serious Apple!!!

    • Written by from Plano

This is a really great dock. Your iPhone 5s will fit into it perfectly, and confidently. But!! That is also part of the problem. If you have...oh...let's say, one of Apple's beautiful leather cases for your phone, then everything nice, I've just said, goes out the door. You have to have a naked iPhone 5s, to use this dock.

So in other words, if you prefer your iPhone 5s nude, in it's beautiful self, then this dock is pretty perfect. The audio jack is a nice touch, and will work with any 3.5mm jack. BUT, if you have any kind of case on your phone, forget it.

re: Nice look, but not thought through

    • Written by from Kuala Lumpur

    The dock "looks" great.

However, 2 main flaws which Apple could have done better:

    1) The front of the dock covers part of the home button. So it's just a bit awkward when you try to press the home button.

    2) The dock is too light, so when you try to remove your phone, you will have to use both hands.

    Nice dock, but ...

    • Written by from Moorestown

This is a very nice dock but you cannot have your iPhone in any kind of case. The dock fits to the iPhone snugly, there is no wiggle room or anyway to jam your phone in if it's in a case into this dock. I would really love to see Apple solve this problem, especially for those of us who have a bumper case which is not bulky by any stretch. Back in the day, Apple use to offer a set of adapters with their dock for the various shapes of the iPod versions that were available. Why not do the same thing, except for their own cases? I think it's possible and hope Apple takes this as a suggestion, please!

OK with a serious design flaw

    • Written by from JACKSON HEIGHTS

The home button is partially covered by the dock when the phone is in. That is a major design flaw in a dock for a phone with a fingerprint sensor. Otherwise works fine.

Glad to have the iPhone dock back for the 5s BUT...

    • Written by from Ottawa

If you are using the svelte Apple 5s leather case, you need to take it off (not easy to do because of its snug fit) before you can use the dock.

If I could put my 5s with leather case into the dock, I would rate it 5 stars.

I got this dock for my new iPhone 5; stoked they made one this year for it... as I was putting my iPhone 5 down in it to charge, it wasn't going very easily. I was wondering why this was the case, as my 4S went in its official Apple dock just fine. I look at the back of my phone, and my Zagg InvisibleShield is suddenly coming off like it had been peeled.

The fit is so tight on this it's purely meant for a naked device. Period. Before you buy this dock, ensure you cut the bottom skin part of your iPhone that's the glossy part. That should be enough room to get this to go in there.

Shame, as I had my 4 back skinned, and never had this issue... Otherwise, great!

    Finally An Apple Dock, But...

    • Written by from Winnipeg

I'm very happy that Apple finally made this dock! I hated using 3rd party docks because they tend to be on the ugly side. I like the look of this dock. It's classic Apple. And it does what docks do. Charges, syncs, and is a nice little home for my iPhone 5. However, the two main things I do not like are that the home button is partially covered by the dock when the phone is sitting in it. Apple seems to be really slacking off on little design details like this lately. Also, the dock is light, so you will have to hold it down when you take the phone out of it. It's not heavy enough to use with just one hand. But all in all I do like it, just not 5 stars. I'd really give it 3.5 stars but can't do that here so I gave 3. Oh, it SHOULD be cheaper for what it is and what it does. I mean it's essentially just a differently-shaped power adapter.
