    Best router I ever had.

    • Written by from Chambly

This is certainly the best router I ever had so far. For people who don't want to waste time configuring or do complicated tasks with their router, this is the one. And on top of that, the range is just amazing.

    Rock solid now...

    • Written by from Casselberry

My grandson bought me this and took my older Airport Extreme with him. I had serious issues getting it set up. The first issue was an ISP/user problem and not the fault of the Airport Extreme. The second issue was that it would first give me all greens and then say the ethernet cable was disconnected. This lasted for about 30 minutes, made me seriously crazy and then it just cleared up. It has worked perfectly ever since. A couple reviewers have put bogus information up and I just wanted to correct their errors. First, I have an ATT Microcell connected to this router and to the previous one. The Microcell can be sensitive to its location and general environment but it works perfectly with the Airport Extreme. I also have a 2TB WD MyBook Studio drive connected to my system. It worked fine with the original Airport Extreme and it works fine with this one. I use it for storage and to wirelessly support Time Machine for a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro 15".

Please don't project your problems onto the Airport Extreme, it works fine with both of these devices

Reliable could do with more features @ this Price

    • Written by from Ilford

Works, is reliable and connects over WiFi to two Airport Express to give extended WiFi coverage. Replaced an RT-N66U which had not only more features but also more issues. What I like about the Airport Extreme is the ease of setup, the very easy bridging via WiFi. The Windows version of the software is a waste of time. In all I use its as a glorified AP, why only AP? Well it lacks dual WAN, unable to put a 3G dongle on it and I'm not going to hook up my USB disk to such a slow USB 2.0 (I believe were in 2014 AD, not BC). At this price it should have QoS at the very least and USB 3.0 not to forget more ports (both USB 3.0 and LAN). Incidentally it handles old g very well so if you have some legacy kit then you can consider it.
Overall satisfied but not overwhelmed who I imagined more leading edge,

Best Router I have ever seen after about 1 year of USE still impressed

    • Written by from Riverside

All my Computers are Dell but after listing to the Tech-Guy on the radio I stepped up to the Apple Airport Extreme and am very pleased.
I have 4 iphones, Ipad and 7 Dell PCs as well as my wifi TVs, PS3, Xbox and all of those gizmos do better than ever using WIFI from this Router
This is a 1/2 acre property and I have access to my network from any part of my yard in this single story house.
This router has the capacity to connect all my devices at the same time without choking.
I have used other routers, Netgear, Linksys, and Cisco but they all died. some after weeks while others after years.

    Easy Setup, consistent connection, fast!!

    • Written by from Ypsilanti

Bought an AirPort Extreme a after dealing with ATT's atrocious gateways dropping wireless signals and constantly bottlenecking a 25mbps connection while watching a 3min 1080p video. The AirPort Extreme set up quickly in DHCP mode and easily retrieved an IP address to work for flawlessly behind the gateway acting as a modem (bridge mode). Have had absolutely zero issues so far, connection is strong and speeds are consistent. Definitely recommend this to anyone needed a high end AC router for it's dependability and ease of use.

Very pleased, good range, easy setup

Problem that needed a solution: Needed to share Internet and network between two buildings, one frame and one masonry, about 300 yards apart. Some trees and a busy highway separate the buildings. Early solutions had stopped working due to trees and installation of energy-efficient windows.

Pair of Airport Extreme Base Stations (802.11b/g/n/ac) replaced two non-Apple 802.11g routers and outdoor antenna. In building 1, ran Ethernet patch cable from phone company modem/router to Airport Extreme #1. Created new WiFi network on #1 with Airport Utility. Used Utility to configure #2 to join #1's new network. Carried Airport Extreme #2 to building 2, powered it up, and began using the network. Setup time about 10-15 minutes.

AirPort Extreme...where have you been all of my life!?!?!

    • Written by from Morada

    Just did the easy install.
Have Comcast internet and am using the Comcast triple-play modem.
Had to get comcast to put the wireless gateway into full bridge mode.
You can chat with them online or call them. easy....

The APE doubled the wireless speeds throughout the house.
Where we were getting 12 mbps we now get at least 25.
Where we were getting 25 we are now getting close to 45.

    So far...very happy!
Where have you been all of my life, APE?!?!

Love it! Replaced an old AirPort Extreme, 3rd gen

    • Written by from Montreal

My old AE 3rd gen wasn't able to cover all the places in the backyard. So I decided to upgrade to the latest hardware and in a word I'm very happy and satisfied with it. Setup was a breeze with AirPort Utility where I was guided to just do a replace operation of the older device. The whole thing with a firmware update took less than 10 minutes.

Coverage is now great every where and the speed increased also for MacBook Air 2013 (they use 802.11ac) and on my iPad air too. I decided to put an harddisk on it to act as a "el cheapo" NAS...

    So, another happy customer.

Guest Network is MAC-filtered like the primary network

    • Written by from LONDON

If I set up a guest network it's because i want my guests to be able to connect easily. How stupid is it that the primary and guest networks share the same MAC address access list??? It means that in order to connect, guests have to be registered into my AirPort! Imagine the length of the list!
A decent product all in all, but really such a ridiculous oversight on the part of Apple for the most expensive wireless router out there is not acceptable. You can get £15 wireless routers that manage to get this one right!

Very poor performance on video streaming, frequently showing network.error or network unavailable. My old router works a lot better. Also, it don't have mac filtering..

    Needs the audio out!

    • Written by from Wilmington

Why no audio out? I bought the Express because it had it. I wanted the range of the Extreme but I love the Airport feature for the direct connection to my stereo receiver. I will up grade when they add this feature.

The nicest and most user friendly router out there.

    • Written by from Summerville

I've had the 'luxury' of an AC router for quite some time now. Sadly, the router was a pain. It constantly cut out, speeds were unreliable, and setup was the biggest pain in the world.

This past week I began eyeing the Airport Extreme, and rightfully so. Today I proudly purchased it at my local Best Buy. After hooking it up and loading up Airport Utility on my Mac, I was stunned at how amazingly easy it was to set up. Honestly, it was breath taking to see router setup this simple (And I've dealt with my fair share of routers in the past).

After connecting to the device on my iPhone, iPad, PS3, PC, etc. I was happy to find that it worked smoothly on all of them.

By far, the best router I have ever purchased.

    Not a fan

    • Written by from Minnetonka

I "upgraded" to this device only to find out that it lacks the ability to monitor usage. Competing products offer an ability to monitor traffic and thus usage of your WIFI/internet connections but this device does not.

In addition, the updated Apple Airport configuration utility (which is used to configure the device) is extremely limited and the user interface is simply awful... one of the worst applications I've ever seen from out of Apple.

So, if you're looking for the best WIFI router with the best features, my recommendation as the owner of one of these is to look elsewhere. (I wish I had).

AirPort Extreme Base Station: another out-the-park home run

    • Written by from Kenner

It was time to get serious and call Mother Apple for the latest and greatest AirPort Extreme Base Station when my D-link WBR-2310 RangeBooster G Wireless Router went off the reservation. The emblematically elegant Airport Extreme micro-tower was delivered in two days and ten minutes later she was vigorously pumping a flood of energy to all points in my single story sprawling 4,400 square foot home. The Base Station immediately prompted for a seamless firmware update on initial connection and subsequent configuration with Apple's complementary Airport Utility iPhone app was incredibly simple and intuitive. Simplicity of installation, price point, form & functionality, performance, support, and Apple's "no questions asked" money back guarantee made this device a game breaker for me. And kudos to my Apple sales person, Adrian, for clearly and accurately presenting the multiple advantages and ease of installation of the Airport Extreme device, as well as to Apple Inc. for adeptly removing the pain from router installation and management.

    Love the AirPort Extreme

    • Written by from Kalamazoo

Got this router the other day and it is the best router I have ever used. I have all Apple devices (with the exception of my smart tv....cough cough) and had a heck of a time with other routers and this is a god send! I dont know why i didn't buy this sooner.

It connects my MacBook Pro, iPhone 5, iPad Air, Smart TV, and printer without even breaking a sweat. Set up was super easy on my iPhone. It also allows for guest networks which I love. Thank you Apple for continuing to make amazing products!

    Ease of use ~ fantastic

    • Written by from Concord

I purchased this router because I am becoming an apple enthusiast. It basically set itself up, easiest router setup with security installed i have ever experienced. it is faster than my old router, and has better range, but my old router was old. I am sure there are comparable routers and even routers with better reviews, but I am very happy.

    Wouldn't work.

    • Written by from Newport

I tried for hours and could not make it work properly. If I got wired internet to the iMac I coudn't get wired internet to the Apple TV and vice versa. I only got wifi to my iPhone once and never to my MacBook Air or iPad. I returned it to B&H for a refund. Whilst travelling I went into an Apple store and had them open, set up, and test an AirPort Time Capsule which, so far, has worked faultlessly.

    very reliable and super fast

    • Written by from pingree grove

My house is fairly large with two floors and a basement. Our old router would cut out every few days and we dealt with it for four years. After we bought a new PC desktop and laptop for the house, we decided to upgrade our router.

Before buying this, I read a ton of reviews ans there were lots of people having problems from not being able to use it in an existing network, to the range being awful, to not being able to connect an external hard drive or printer. However, we decided to buy it and try it out and ran into ALL of these problems. Literally took forever to get it set up (it was easy for my mac pro and our iPhones, but not the PCs).

HOWEVER, after simple google searches we were able to solve everything. The signal is so strong and fast that I've stayed connected and used my wifi from 2 houses away! yes it took some work to set it up right, but I'm not going to blame the Airport extreme for my personal ignorance, which I feel like many people who give negative reviews do. Wr have a 1 TB external hard drive attached and our printer. Everyone in my house uses netflix/hbogo all the time and my brother and I are PC gamers. The signal has never dropped for 9 months now.

I should add that I work in technology and have built several PCs myself and I still had trouble so those "support" people you call can't really help you if you won't even admit your own ignorance and blame them.
