    Airport Extreme: extremely pleased

    • Written by from Boise

Replaced an old Airport Express 1264a with a new Extreme. From box opening to set-up and running in less than 5 minutes. Airport Utility made it easy. Used the same ID and password as old express and all my devices were still connected after replacement. Strong signal in residential home. WiFi test showed it was a bit better than old router. Main reason for buying a new router was to have additional ethernet ports. I wish the rest of life was as easy to set-up.

it really doesn't get any easier than this

    • Written by from MAYFIELD

I have struggled over the past year with my old wireless router, I had a friend tell me about the Apple airport extreme after purchasing it, I was slightly reluctant to believe how easy it was everyone was saying, it literally took me longer to get it out of the package then it did for me to connect it. Signal strength is awesome everywhere on my property and the speed is too! But the best thing is now, my Apple TV works like it should!!!! five stars!!!!!

    New airport

    • Written by from Enumclaw

So far I've been using this product for two days and I went to print some things and I have an old Canon PIXMA IP 4000R and that of course is a wireless printer but old-school. And I had to change wireless networks at home to print to it because my older fifth-generation AirPort Extreme would not connect to it but this one does and finally realizing that after minute or so that I was printing without changing wireless networks I was all excited. I'm going to give my old wireless AirPort Extreme to my daughter. It's a different looking design having a little mini tower instead of a flat pancake like device. It's so fast!

    Lots of trouble

I have been an Apple fan for many years now, I bought this as a replacement to the Airport extreme that went belly up. This thing has been a constant source of trouble, it need constant rebooting and reconfiguring, I am sooooo sorry I bought this this. IMHO not worth the money.

    Awesome Router!!

    • Written by from East Earl

I was previously a diehard NetGear router fan. After three High end very expensive NetGear routers failed on me... A friend of mine has had the 5th and now 6th Generation routers. He swore by them. So I decided to give the Airport Extreme a chance! Very happy with the speeds and range of signal I receive in our 1,600 square ft townhouse. Every floor and inch has great signal! Apple, you've done it again! Very pleased!

I have always used the modem/router provided by telcos. It would work for 6months and then connection would start dropping out, become slow etc..

Airport Extreme as solved all of my connection issues!

    Disappointing Setup and Range

    • Written by from Wessington Springs

Bought new Extreme in April 2015 from Best Buy based on Apple sales pitch...6 antennas, conforming beam, excellent range. I'll likely keep it -- even though it struggles to reach my iPhone in an upstairs bathroom -- because it took 3 hours to setup and I'm adverse to having "wasted" my time. Instructions from package were totally inadequate. Need to enlarge print and clarify. For example, how long should the amber light flash before turning green?! Who do I call or email for clarification? How do you use internet when you disconnect the old router and before the Extreme is operating? When I found a phone # and after waiting 20 minutes in the queue, the two experts I talked with were helpful and walked me through a time-consuming and complex setup as my new fiber optics router installed by Venturecomm three months ago did not recognize the Extreme. The router needed PPPoE and Extreme expected DHCP auto.

    Fantastic line of routers.

    • Written by from Elgin

I had the last gen version of the Airport Extreme (the Mac Mini shaped one) and loved it. It recently stopped functioning--I believe because of a recent brown out in our house--and I decided to replace it with this new model. Color me impressed. My old one did a really great job giving us a good solid wireless N signal two floors away, but this one is even faster and more solid.

Speaking generally though--these are the most solid routers I've ever owned. They never need to be restarted and they last forever. I highly recommend them. Power users or network admins may not find them to be the most versatile as far as options, but for the standard user, they're amazing.

    Airport Estreem

    • Written by from LANCASTER

I love this product. This is the 2nd Airport Extreem I bought for myself. When my daughter's old Linksys died, I handed her down my old Airpoort Extreem "hot plate" model which still worked perfect, and I installed the new model Airport Extreem in my new wifi setup. The old Airport Extreem never disappointed. I have had the new "tower" model for almost a year now, and it seems to be a lot more powerful in range and with the amount of devices you can run through it at the same time. I like the feature of automatically switching the the best frequency for the device that is connecting to it. I wouldn't buy anything else. It does what is it suppose to.

    Excellent!

After many rounds of frustration with Netgear routers and extenders, I decided to give this Airport Extreme a try. They do have a great return policy...It simply just worked, out of the box. Set up was very intuitive and simple, and it immediately recognised the Airport express that I use as an extender. I coould not be more pleased with this product, especially since this isn't a spare time/hobby for me, but I use it for work 24/7. I had it in service for 3 weeks now, and it has been flawless, meaning I don't even know it's there. Precisely the opposite of other brands I have owned before. It is hard wired to a satellite modem, my 2 computers, printer and airport express are tied into it. While expensive, I am very glad I went with this set of routers. All my other apple wireless devices like ipad, iphone and apple tv talk to it flawlessly. Guests with Androids etc also have no issue connecting to my guest network. Time will tell if it is durable and can take power outages etc. But so far, so very very good. I downloaded the utility for it on all my devices, but it had already began to work before I got done downloading. My kind of equipment.

    Solved my problems!

    • Written by from Kennesaw

Had to call Apple support to walk me though the set-up but the support was fast and painless once I was pointed to the "Settings" app on my iPad. The AirPort Extreme is seamlessly supporting multiple i-devices and Smart TV's without the buffering I was experiencing with just the Motorola Cable modem alone. Great product so far, worth every penny!

I bought the airport extreme like 2 weeks ago and it work great. I have a 3,200 square foot house and every where i go i have full bars on my iPhone to my macbook, even out side. It is way better then the netgear that century link has. LOVE IT !!!

    Love this wireless device!

I was dreading replacing our old router, but the setup process for the AirPort Extreme couldn't have been any easier. We keep our modem and router on the top floor of our 4 story house and the signal is really strong on all 4 levels, even in the basement. The internet connection is super fast too. Another great product from Apple!

    Far MORE THEN EXPECTED!

    • Written by from Crown Point

Have ran a other brand name router for over 10 years yes N speed etc. but was having issues! Come too find out it was not the router! But seeing at the time I would upgrade why not go HIGH END! ( the old one was still better rated then some of the new! Going into my parents house now!) But my IPhone 6 is the only thing with he AC Speed. But when I would be in my barn working the iPhone would work as long as the door was open! LOL Now with the door closed I still get full signal and if I was more then 200' from the house i lost the wifi signal! Now I can be over 300yards from the house and still be connected! SO YES THE AIR PORT EXTREME HAS FAR SURPASSED WHAT I WAS EXPECTING AT THE BEST!!!

Will never buy another Apple router

    • Written by from Sacramento

I would not recommend this to anyone other then someone who is more concerned about looks, rather then function and quality. I purchased this a little over a year ago, worked well for several months then nothing but problems; HOURS Spent trying to resolve self assigned ip issues and getting it to play nice with NAS, etc. Part of the issue is that Apple believes that anyone buying their products is a moron and need generic configuration interfaces, so you can't adjust anything only what Apple wants you to adjust. Also, what's up with requiring a reviewer to agree with their EULA before submitting a review? Haven't I agreed to several hundred EULAs over the past 20 some odd years. Just goes to show where their heads are at.

Made all the difference, really like it

    • Written by from San Antonio

I was skeptical that this router would fix some of the range and throughput issues that I was having. I took a chance and was glad that I did. It extended the range over my previous router that Time Warner provided significantly. Throughput is great and the added bonus of wi-fi support for 802.11ac is fantastic. My iPhone 6 and Macbook Pro fly now and other legacy wi-fi enabled devices are working a lot better including two Roku 3s, Samsung tablet, Xbox One and other devices.

    Performance has degraded

    • Written by from Driftwood

I first bought this to replace a Dlink router that needed to be rebooted every month or so. This worked well for a year, but in the past couple of months I've had numerous degraded performance issues, ranging from mysterious slowness to completely failing to pass traffic indefinitely. If it happened once every few months I suppose that would be tolerable, but happening every few days has completely ruined my confidence in this. And no, the problem is not on the carrier side, since the router does not respond to ping as it normally should. Seemed to begin when I configured an Airport Express to join or extend the network, though that may be a coincidence since I took it offline and still experienced the same issues with the router. The next time this happens I am probably going to retire it and replace with the Dlink in storage, or reconfigure it from scratch, which I'm not looking forward to.

    USB Compatibility

    • Written by from Belvidere

Overall this is a great product, almost doubled my wireless throughput, have not found a dead spot in the house, will try outside when it is warmer. The BIG ISSUE I have is with USB compatibility. It was one of the considerations I had in spending the extra $$ for this device as I am also adding an external drive for backup purposes, just as the Apple website identifies, connect a printer or external drive. As I am still on a PC at home I could not use the Time Capsule and chose a WDC My Book. The problem is the USB port on the Extreme will not work with this. The apple utility recognizes it on my PC but that is it. After talking to support I found that it would only work if I reformatted to FAT32 which is not happening. Have not seen this limitation in any literature or for that matter in the ops manual or any support topic.

    SNMP Disabled!

    • Written by from Corona

With this model of the Airport Extreme Apple decided to disable snmp, so now I cannot monitor my bandwidth at home. I have to trust my provider to give my correct numbers. lol

Other than that it is a decent router
