    Glad I bought it

    • Written by from DURANGO

While I do not use the new networking protocol, so I can't comment on that part, the strength of signal increase in my two story home is stunning. I get solid bars everywhere now, I used to get 1-2 bars in some parts of the yard and in some rooms. Streaming video from iPads and iMacs to the Appletv is solid. And... Totally easy to set up. I recommend it highly.

I have clients who went with other brands, saved some money, and are spending way more in tech support to fix network issues and drop outs. Plus they suffer and struggle with it constantly. Go with Apple. Pay for quality and excellent design and software. Then just use it. It works. Your peace of mind is worth it.

Best Wireless Router I've Ever Owned

    • Written by from Chicago

I don't even own any 802.11ac devices, but this thing has amazing range and reliability. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could because only putting on three router ports instead of four just seems like another calculated Apple move to arbitrarily tick off their customers. But luckily I just connected an old router to use as a network switch, so It wasn't a big deal. Aside from that, I have zero negative comments about this product. Also, I can get my full internet capacity (25Mbps) inside my car down in my parking garage through concrete, steel, and who knows whatever else is between this thing and the car. I'm sold.

    Incredible improvement

I live in a large home with two of these on each end and on 3 acres of land. The signal now is incredibly strong and even covers part of my acreage. I never could do that before. I applaud Apple! Once yet again a superbly designed solution.

    Worth the upgrade!

    • Written by from OZARK

I don't even have any 802.11ac devices (yet) and this made all my current devices have notably better range and speed throughout my entire house from the previous AirPort Extreme. The previous model though very good itself still lost 1 bar of reception at the corners of my home but this one installed in the same position keeps a perfect full signal everywhere, and the speed is better as well. I HIGHLY recommend this!

Changed how wi-fi runs in my house-changed my world!

    • Written by from Springfield

Immediate, sharp, big bang difference in Wifi performance from my pre-supplied Verizion Router for FiOS. With the sneakily increasing amount of wifi devices in the house, it was necessary to upgrade, and while I was moaning about the price, it's been worth it. Seamless install of about 5 minutes, Apple TV is happier than ever, the Ipads are screaming fast - well worth it. If you've got an apple house like mine - it's worth the investment.

    WOW!

This router replaced my last generation AirPort Extreme AND AirPort Expressed used to extend the network because it didn't cover my entire house. I have no words except for the title, WOW!

    Tower of Power

    • Written by from Austin

The reviews are true. Switching from an older Airport Extreme to this model instantly provided five bar coverage everywhere in my home. Streaming appears to be faster as well.

The form factor is a little more challenging to camouflage but this certainly has nothing to do with performance. Great product.

    Wireless Range Not So Great!

    • Written by from Manville

I bought this router hoping that the 6 internal antennas would provide unparalleled coverage in my home. To my disappointment, the router performs quite worse than competing 802.11AC routers, such as the highly recommended Asus RT-AC66R.

In addition to the less than favorable performance in aerial coverage, the design of this router is awkward and sticks out like a sore thumb when placed anywhere in view.

I have multiple airport extremes and this new one definitely has a greater range and increased speed. Wish I had the ac wifi in my laptops.

Reliable could do with more features @ this Price

    • Written by from Ilford

Works, is reliable and connects over WiFi to two Airport Express to give extended WiFi coverage. Replaced an RT-N66U which had not only more features but also more issues. What I like about the Airport Extreme is the ease of setup, the very easy bridging via WiFi. The Windows version of the software is a waste of time. In all I use its as a glorified AP, why only AP? Well it lacks dual WAN, unable to put a 3G dongle on it and I'm not going to hook up my USB disk to such a slow USB 2.0 (I believe were in 2014 AD, not BC). At this price it should have QoS at the very least and USB 3.0 not to forget more ports (both USB 3.0 and LAN). Incidentally it handles old g very well so if you have some legacy kit then you can consider it.
Overall satisfied but not overwhelmed who I imagined more leading edge,

    Disappointed in range

    • Written by from Orlando

I replaced an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n router with the current 802.11ac router and have discovered the range of the ac router to be less than the n router. And I'm not talking long distances here or through dense barriers--maybe 25 feet and through drywall. The speed is somewhat better when at close range (like a foot or two) but that is hardly worth it after giving up range since I normally used a wired connection at close range.

This router works flawlessly with our 150Mbps connection. Breeze to set up. The only thing missing is the audio out from the Express. Not a deal breaker. We have both and love them.

Purchased to replace a D link 615 that has worked fine for 5+ years (still works fine!). Needed better range to get reliable signal in the back yard and far corners of my house. Thought this would do the trick - wrong. Actually have worse signal in some areas. Where I do get good signal strength, my Internet speeds and file transfers are blazing, however, a $40 router provided better range..

Product description incomplete re USB port

    • Written by from Key West

The web router works very well.

However, the USB port does not. (1) it requires an external hard drive with its own power source - NOT SPECIFIED. (2) it requires an external hard drive formatted in a particular way - NOT SPECIFIED.

The WEB SITE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION SHOULD BE CHANGED !!!

Apple is working with me to overcome these problems.

They sent me a 4-hub device that doesn't do what they said it would.

Now they are sending me an external hard drive so I can re-format my data without having to wipe out all files on my current external hard drive.

Lots of trouble & time for me, plus expense to Apple.

speed OK but cannot connect external hard drive for wireless backup

    • Written by from Houston

I purchased the AE to enhance coverage throughout the house and to backup my MacAir wirelessly. I have a modern Seagate external hard drive (HD) with USB 2.0 that I've been using directly on the Mac via Time Capsule. I even reformatted it again when it wasn't recognized by Time Capsule via the AE. I used the "Mac Os Extended (Journaled)" option and confirmed all data being backed up was consistent with this choice via Disk Utility. No luck regardless of resets of everything. Disappointing since the tiny manual for the AE indicates an external HD can be connected for this very purpose.

Read up before you buy folks...too many with the same issue. I'd have purchased the Airport Time Capsule if the reviews were better...
