    Tower of Power

    • Written by from Austin

The reviews are true. Switching from an older Airport Extreme to this model instantly provided five bar coverage everywhere in my home. Streaming appears to be faster as well.

The form factor is a little more challenging to camouflage but this certainly has nothing to do with performance. Great product.

    Amazing speed easy setup

    • Written by from Winlock

I had been fighting for weeks trying to get the wireless router portion of my Actiontec C1000a modem to be reliable. If I unplugged it it would work fir maybe a day and then get super slow unless I rebooted it. Once in awhile it would work for couple if days. I tried adding a wifi repeater but still inconsistent.

I was skeptical about investing in AirPort Extreme. Boy am I glad I did! Setup was a breeze and wifi speed have never been this fast, ever! I can travel anywhere on our lot and have wifi reception. Coverage is phenomenal. You can't go wrong with the AirPort Extreme.

    A must buy!!

    • Written by from Cheney

I bought this AirPort along with two MacBook airs because they both use the same 802.11ac wifi. And boy does this thing work! I live in a small apartment, so you can imagine I don't need it for it's wide range of coverage, but rather for it's capabilities. I own quite a number of wifi connected devices, and this thing handles all of them very well. It is making the best of the wifi that my new MacBook Air can handle, and getting me download speeds as high as my ISP will allow. And even my devices that don't use 802.11ac wifi have been shot with adrenaline when they connected to this guy. A must buy if you are buying a 2013 MacBook Air, or plan on buying any Macs in the future.

great wireless range, but falls short in other ways - rats!

    • Written by from Toronto

I really wanted to love this router. Its wireless range is the best I've experienced, but its features fall short in a couple of other respects (confirmed with Apple Support):

    - no support for dynamic DNS
    - no support for external drives formatted as NTFS - so an external drive that a Mac can read/write when connected directly via USB won't be recognized at all when connected to the Airport Extreme's USB port. Even a cheapie Western Digital N750 router will recognize external drives whether formatted for Mac OS or Windows. And the N750 has 2 USB ports vs just the one on the Airport Extreme.

    Perfect!

    • Written by from Hampton

I had my old airport since 2007. This year I noticed that our mobile devices and the speed at which my streaming movies would load had slowed down. The first day I saw that a new airport was available, I ordered it. I hooked it up in 5 minutes and the connectivity throughout our house has been perfect. I love the speed on this new airport extreme. I would hands down recommend that you pick this up and install it into your business or work network.

    Not impressed

Better that previous in some ways but slow USB no firewire. Missing features of previous version. Fix the oversights and it would be good. You would expect more form the larger size.

    great product

    • Written by from Saint Charles

I have been living with limited range of second generation time capsule up until today. Was never very happy with that device due to range limit and some connectivity issues. Just purchased the airport extreme. This thing was a snap to set up. No trouble establishing network and connecting on all devices. The range on this is outstanding. Live in large home with bedroom above the garage. With prior set up very poor reception if at all. With new Airport extreme strength and speed of internet connections are excellent through several walls and floors. Well done Apple. Now I'll have to buy apple tv for the bedroom television which will now have access to streaming.

Same ease of use, substantially improved product.

    • Written by from Vancouver

Just bought the new airport extreme coming from the 5th gen APE. I used to suffer with signal strength throughout my house but now I always get full bars of wifi in the furthest part. Works great with my iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBook Pro, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U. My only complaint is the form factor, it doesn't fit upright as designed where I had my old APE was, but thats a small esthetic nit pick.

Outstanding upgrade but packaging a huge failure.

    • Written by from Pollocksville

Hello, I'm not the first to make such comments regarding the box in which the router is packaged in. I opened the cellophane and the bottom dropped out from the box and onto the floor, rendering my hard drive inoperative. I take responsibility but on the other hand realize the imperfect design that enables such an easy mistake to happen. The box sets you up for failure in its attempt for form over function. Now I have a router that I paid 300 for that was supposed to have a 2TB hard drive that doesn't work. However, the wireless still works and is noticeably faster on my N devices. I look forward to seeing the performance improvement when I get my new Mac Air with AC. Now, I wonder if Apple will exchange for a working one as a good will gesture? I'm not the last person this will happen to I can guarantee that.
    Thank you, Adam

    Airport Extreme!

    • Written by from Seminole

I have recently switched over to Apple from the PC world, to a Mac Mini late 2012 handling all my freelance graphic design needs and invested in this Airport Extreme router. I must say I am highly impressed, as the set up was astoundingly easy and recognized straight away and the speeds/range is almost 10 times what I was getting with my expensive Cisco router that cost around the same price range.

The fact this is future proofed to wireless AC is a sure bet, you'll be happy you invested.

    Great, but Missing Key Options

    • Written by from Naples

Just set up this router for a friend. Very nice product, great distance and strength, excellent profile but missing the following:
    - USB port should be 3.0. not old 2.0;
    - need optional log info to monitor access (my Netgear sends me an e-mail with log entries when scan attacks are made against my router);
    - there is no setup option to restrict devices by MAC addresses.

I may consider this Extreme as a future purchase if the above upgrades are part of a new version.

    Blazing speed!!

    • Written by from Rocky Hill

I just picked the Extreme up yesterday and I'm amazed on how much faster this is from my old 4th generation Extreme. I also had dead spots out on my deck before and now I am getting full signal. I can't wait to walk my dog this morning and see how far up the street it will work.

Quality is Beautiful and Looks fantastic on my shelve. It took about 5 minutes to set up through airport utility and it would have been three, but there was a update to install.

Apple did it again! Spend the extra money it's well worth it!

    Greatly improved range and reliability

    • Written by from MOUNT KISCO

I live in a large house and was previously using a linksys ea6500 router and netgear range extender to get whole house coverage. This set-up proved extremely unreliable as different devices would regularly lose contact, things would need to be rebooted, repowered and reconnected, generally a nightmare. Enter the new AirPort Extreme, on it's own it covers the entire house and a decent radius outside so we can work wirelessly on our deck and in our backyard. The speed even at the farthest point in our house from the router is excellent. The set-up took two minutes. I had purchased an AirPort Express along with the AirPort Extreme thinking I would need to extend the coverage but the extreme is so powerful I have returned the express. Excellent all around.

We have Verizon FIOS and paying for 75 mbps but
could not get more than 25-35 on wifi and 45-60 on ethernet on PC and iMac.

Now we are getting 75-85 on ethernet PLUS our wifi, thanks to your new Airport Extreme and the AC band, even though the N protocol is on everything else in our home wifi network.

Thanks Apple for this great product.

Purchased to replace a D link 615 that has worked fine for 5+ years (still works fine!). Needed better range to get reliable signal in the back yard and far corners of my house. Thought this would do the trick - wrong. Actually have worse signal in some areas. Where I do get good signal strength, my Internet speeds and file transfers are blazing, however, a $40 router provided better range..
