I should have bought an Airport Extreme a long time ago!

    • Written by from LAVAL

Installation took no more than 5 minutes, literally. And finally no more signal dropping. Signal is reaching every corner of the house (basement + 2 storeys), even outside on my driveway. Connection speed is at 300 Mbps on my 802.11n devices/laptops. I have at least 10 devices connected to it. I'm eager to check the speed it on 802.11ac devices.

Got rid of signal dropping? yes. Delighted? yes. Paid a bit more? Yes. Recommend it to a friend? absolutely.

If you do not need to create VLAN's and do crazy stuff, then this router is a no-brainer for home use -should you be willing to spend the extra bucks. For me, it's worth it. I highly recommend it.

    Simply works

Were an audio video integrator we don't do very complex networks due to us leaving wifi as a last resort for anything other than mobile devices. Installed a Ubiquiti system with no one but myself connected and i was getting an average of 12-15 m down .. took out the "Fancy router and AP .. plugged one of these guys in and 100+ down which is what the client was paying for. just a week ago a client had some dlinks as APs performed poorly.. took them out placed 5 Extremes (Big house) in the same location as the not so old equipment and boom .. from 8 to 50+ now which is what they are paying for .. These things work. plain and simple easy to set up .. easy to use and open ports.... unless you really need to create vlans and get crazy (which is 90% of the time not the case) this is the best product to get .. period

    Fixed my problem!

    • Written by from Norfolk

I was having a lot of wi-fi internet problems. My network would stop working, sometimes I couldn't connect to it, sometimes the speed would decrease considerably for no intelligible reason. I got a new modem and a new router but the problems persisted.

A friend recommended this to me but I was reluctant due to the high cost compared to its competitors. As with all Apple products, you get what you pay for. I haven't explored many of the advanced features but it has completely solved my network issues. And it's super fast. I can consistently get over 50 Mbps (with my last set-up I maxed out at about 20).

Bottom line: it's expensive but you get what you pay for.

    Solid Router

    • Written by from Scituate

This is a very solid router. I hooked it up to my Comcast service and set it up in about 10 minutes. It works seamlessly. I noticed a strong speed increase across all of my devices - iPhones, iPads, and laptops - and the range was greatly improved. I have coverage on my back deck that I didn't have before with a strong signal. I highly recommend.

    So Easy

Set this up using my Macbook. Was the easiest router I have ever set up. Easier to set up than apples wireless keyboard and trackpad even, and those were really easy.

    Great wifi performance

    • Written by from Miami

I set one of these up as a wireless access point at work (10,000 sq ft building) and all of our wireless problems went away. Works great with our Double Robot running an iPad air and all other devices windows or PC. Wireless N and AC performance are great in any part of the building with at least 10 users.

Great router for apple wireless devices and external peripherals

    • Written by from Aizkraukle

Bought this router from local reseller in Riga. I've had few problems with previous router, that was working only on 2.4GHz, because of bluetooth interference (apple keyboard and trackpad). Then I decided to buy a new router, that is AC and can go dual band 2.4 / 5 GHz. So, bought this router. The setup was easy with airport utility. Also tried to connect old printer with USB to the back of router, and it worked even better than expected. Also tried to connect my USB flash drive to a router's USB port, and on both MacBooks (late 2013 retina, 13") we have, we could use it as external drive / time machine backup drive. Also the usb drive it can be used for files sharing.
When using 5 GHz, the signal is great and bluetooth isn't interfering any more, because it works on his own 2.4 GHz. Can't tell anything about the range, because our apartment isn't that big to test the range.

Very solid. Uptime for wireless is excellent

    • Written by from Sheboygan

I bought the airport extreme to replace my badly behaving d-link (their top of the line model). The old one required me to power cycle it several times a day, so I knew its days were limited. The airport extreme has been a solid performer for me. I think setup was just about the easiest ever for me in a router. I used the airport utility on my iPhone and I was up and running in under 15 minutes. It just works!

    So far so good

    • Written by from Murrieta

Not being computer literate, still on my iphone4, waiting for my new 6, I purchased AppleTV and was talked into the AirPort Extreme which after my son face timing me through the set up of my new tower going through my existing Verizon router, it was a cinche. I am now able to use wifi, on my 60" flat screen in the family room, my 30" f/s in my bedroom, my iPad ,iPhone, AppleTV, Galaxy tablet, my dads of cell phone, and a acre computer plugged into the AirPort Extreme. All using the wifi 24/7, with out any problems. Also had a friend over and he was using my wifi and could not believe how fast it was now compared to my Verizon router. Granted it was a costly $200.00 but Verizon wanted $129. For their upgraded router and an additional $10.00 per month for the upgrade. So I believe it's a win win for myself. I don't have much music on my devices like most but for what I'm using it for, it's perfect for me.

Second Airport Extreme and absolutely love it!!

    • Written by from Phoenix

I replaced an older version of the Airport Extreme, a 2009 version, with a new version today - November 20th, 2014. I have a huge home all on one level so I have a couple of Airport Expresses around the house as well - newer versions that do not plug directly into the wall. It took me about 10 minutes to go from old to new with great signals throughout the house. The newer version seems to be much faster than the older one. Love these guys and would recommend them to everyone that needs to upgrade a home wireless network system no matter if you have Apple products or not. I have an old Windows PC and it also operates faster on the internet with the newer device. Worth the money in my opinion. By the way, the older version may have dropped off the internet once or twice in 5 years?? Been so long since it happened I do not remember. LOL!!

    Great Product

    • Written by from Roseville

Ive used a lot of different routers over the past 12 years and just recently after a 5 year router that we updated was still running slow and replaced by two. One mid rage price and one near the top line price still had the same problems but now with disconnecting every day from the router having to reconnect. One day we say the airport extreme and i was like every product i own is a apple product and i said why not lets give it a try. After watching the reviews i get great connection never once did it drop a bar and pixelate I'm so happy with this product. Keep it up apple that just made me enjoy using my internet again.

    Get One

    • Written by from Kenmore

The performance baseline for this review are the numbers obtained with my pathetic Windows laptop connected to my Verizon FiOS router via ethernet cable. My service is 50 Mbps up and down. Numerous speed tests, using multiple test sites, in this configuration, resulted in speeds of between 58 and 62 Mbps. Using wireless N my iPad Air closely matched those numbers via WiFi using the Verizon WiFi router. The laptop however, also using wireless N, could barely muster 38 to 42 Mbps while sitting right next to the Verizon WiFi router. After installing the AirPort Extreme I ran multiple tests over time at varied distances from the unit. The already blistering fast iPad Air gained a couple megabits but what really improved was the performance at distance. My laptop gained over 10 to 15 Mbps over the Verizon routers performance also with increased range. I should also note that my Apple TV no longer displays those pesky error messages when connecting to iTunes and authorization and loading times are much shorter. I do not presently have any wireless ac devices but my next MAC that replaces the Windows laptop certainly will as will the next generation Apple TV. The performance increase alone makes the AirPort Extreme worth every penny. The AirPort also looks typically Apple, that is, sleek and modern sitting on my desk with a minimum footprint as opposed to routers that look like space ships from a 50's scifi movie with ugly antennas sticking up all over. Another plus is the AirPort Utility application which allows fast and easy access to the router's settings and information. I monitor the surrounding WiFi environment and my next door neighbor just had wireless installed. I like being able to gain quick access to the channel settings and set up what works best for "me".

Great upgrade for older Apple router

    • Written by from Baltimore

I bought the Extreme to replace a much older Time Capsule. Unbelievable improvement in wireless throughput. We're in a row house and I can see 40 wireless routers (using WiFi Explorer from the Mac App Store). Surprisingly, all were in the 2.4 GHz band. So we were seeing much better wired performance than over the air, in part because of interference and collisions.

I guess most people don't upgrade their routers as a matter of course. Now we have the 5 GHz band to ourselves. Wireless data rate increased tenfold. I think the more sophisticated antenna design in the new Extreme may be just as important as the absence of competition on the 5 GHz band. Wired and wireless connections now run at just about the same speed, even two floors away from the new router.

Setup was easy, even though I had (stupidly)) shut off the old router before seeing that the new Airport offers a "migration" feature to pick up existing configs from a router being replaced. Also, I was happy to see that the new Extreme still talks over wired ethernet to an old Airport Express we have on the top floor. We'd been using the old Express to extend our network. But, with the improvements in the new Extreme, I'm not sure that's necessary anymore.

Easy set up & works great

I needed to replace a CISCO router that was several years old. I read many of the reviews on the AirPort Extreme prior to making my purchase. I must say that my experience so far with this base station as been very satisfactory. I am experiencing much improved speed. The set up could not have been simpler. I simply downloaded the AirPort Utility app to my IPAD (would also down load to my IPHONE 5S), plugged in my AirPort Extreme and that is about all I had to do, except name my network, put in a password and tap next. I continue to be impressed with Apple products.

Gives Early '09 iMac New Life

    • Written by from Highland Park

My home router connects through my ISP modem and ran into an initial installation glitch, probably my fault, called the free (for 90 days) support line and was talked through the setup process (including using my old Airport as a 'router extender') by an extremely competent and patient support guru. The new Airport Extreme worked like a charm within 90 minutes of being out of the box. My Early '09 iMac operates noticeably faster and crisper, so much so I think I will defer plans to replace it with a newer model. One minor complaint is the extremely tiny size of the instruction booklet font, virtually unreadable in the absence of microscopic eyes, had to use a magnifying glass, and the same is true of deciphering the serial number etched into the bottom of the device. In terms of living up to its advertised promises, however, I couldn't be happier with current Airport Extreme.
