    Will never buy another Apple router

    I would not recommend this to anyone other then someone who is more concerned about looks, rather then function and quality. I purchased this a little over a year ago, worked well for several months then nothing but problems; HOURS Spent trying to resolve self assigned ip issues and getting it to play nice with NAS, etc. Part of the issue is that Apple believes that anyone buying their products is a moron and need generic configuration interfaces, so you can't adjust anything only what Apple wants you to adjust. Also, what's up with requiring a reviewer to agree with their EULA before submitting a review? Haven't I agreed to several hundred EULAs over the past 20 some odd years. Just goes to show where their heads are at.

    I regret buying this router, it has not worked correctly since day 1

    I've had to replace this router twice. I really regret buying this router. I've had to reset it and my iMac numerous times just to get a connection and it doesn't want to work with my ATT modem. This router is now assigning wifi addresses that are not even on the network. I'm going to Apple store tomorrow and get my money back and buy anything but an Aport Extreme.

    First Apple product that has frustrated me so much that I returned..

    For all the fancy features it claims to have, it simply does not work. If the ethernet LAN connections work then the wireless network does not work while the yellow light on the Airport Extreme(AE) keeps blinking. If I manage to get the green light on AE then there is no internet connection. After shifting through a swath of user forums - interestingly enough Apple support does not even bring up this issue - that discusses this problem at length, I am giving up. I followed the same steps to connect the old AE - turn everything off (modem, AE and laptop), hard reset AE, turn on modem, wait for 10-15 minutes, turn on AE and wait for it to turn green and then turn laptop/PC on - and the old AE worked as usual without any problems.

    In coming up with fancy design and big feature set, Apple seemed to have forgotten Steve Jobs mantra "It simply works" while designing the new Airport Extreme. That is a shame.

    Unreliable. Do NOT buy!

    Failed multiple times within 1 year of moderate usage. Lost connection to HP printer; could not re-establish connection after inexplicable severance months after successful setup. Will never buy Apple accessories after this overpriced rip-off. Seeking reliable products elsewhere.

    Stay away!

    I purchased my unit from Apple Online in January 2014. Worked great for 4 weeks, until it started shutting down for no reason. Returned it to the Apple store in mid February, and they gave me a new one. Now, it is November, and the unit keeps dropping the internet connection. Wifi signal is great on both 5 and 2.4GHz channels, but NO connectivity. Airplay became useless. Pulled it out, and put back my old 4th gen AirPort Extreme. Yeah, signal strength is a bit less, but everything works so much better. Oh, and the Bonjour Share name problem with OS X Yosemite? ...it stopped!!! Everybody futzing around with their Macs, troubleshooting problems? More than likely it is their 6th gen AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule. I am going to try and return my unit. I do not have high expectations of any satisfaction, but hey... I have to try.

    Horrible Product - will not connect to internet

    This was a total disaster of a product. We have a house full of apple products, 2 mac book airs, 2 iphones, 2 ipads and an apple TV. figured this would be a great new router. This device will not connect to our less than 1 year old cable modem. We had reset the cable modem multiple times as well as left it unplugged for a good 15 minutes before plugging it back in. at one point i was able to get access to the internet through the device, but only on my macbook air. the iphones said they were connect to the network, but they had no internet access. Seriously Apple, this is unacceptable.

    AirPort Extreme Extremely dissapointing!!!!!!

    Brought this to replace an ancient Cisco router , read the reviews and thought great will get a better signal upstairs. What a dissapointment where my old Cisco gave outstanding performance , airport does not even manage to give me a signal. Only place I get full signal is in the room it is located and in the room above, I now now have more dead spots then I ever encountered with the cheapest of routers . Yes airport is extreme , extremely dissapointing will be investigating returning for a full refund. Would give zero stars if I could .

    Couldn't deal with walls

    I was astounded, and not in a good way, by the performance of the Airport Extreme. With all the technology - dual-band, six antennas, beamforming (*especially* beamforming) etc., I was confident it would connect to iOS devices in my WiFi dead zones, but it did not. For three different install locations, the Extreme was outperformed by an ancient Westell DSL modem. In some dead zones, the Westell speed did degrade, but the Extreme failed to connect at all. For other zones in which the Westell worked just fine, the Extreme wouldn't connect. The Extreme didn't appear to be defective: short-range, it was fine, but through multiple walls, unsatisfactory. I returned it. I obtained adequate performance by moving the Westell to an inconvenient location.

    Not a good router

    I don't know what the problem is with this router, but thankfully I waited before selling my previous generation Airport Extreme. This router is slooowwww. It can take up to 30 seconds to move from screen to screen, regardless of time of day or night - I'm in a small house and old router worked just fine. Buyer beware.

    Lousy, will try to return

    Purchased this router less than 2 weeks ago. DSL modem has been placed in bridging and this is handling all of the routing. Wireless signal is good. Worked OK for a couple of days. Then increasingly this thing seems to be rebooting and locking up irregardless of what I do. Unuseable. I reinstalled my old cheapy Netgear N dual signal and configured it the same way. In 24 hours I have not had a single issue. I worked at isolating the issue by power cycles of various devices. I have iPhones, macbook pro, iPad, printer, apple TV, ROKU. They all drop out. I also completed a reset to factory defaults and the thing is rebooting regularly. This is strictly an airport issue and the product is no good.

    As I attempted to isolate the issue I was very disappointed in the Airport utility as the only means of pursuing trouble. The utility is extremely limited and is of almost no troubleshooting help. You can configure and check signal strength on devices. Beyond that the utility completely void. I do not recommend this product.

    Bad power supply on 3 different routers

    The router is great except for one major issue. It can power off completely once every few days. I have bought/returned 2 of these already and now the 3rd one did the same and I will be returning for another brand. My power outlet does not seem to be the problem, tried multiple power strips and plugged directly into the wall...same result as the router keeps turning itself off. Plus, I have other devices using the same power strip/outlet and those work fine. It is a pain to continuously unplug and restart the router every time this happens. Apple does not know what the issue is, but obviously this is a major problem, so beware.

    Desappointing!

    Very disappointing for the price! Still connection problems. Wrost connection to an USB hard drive. Can not reset. We used it professionally for a ticketing system, we must change!

    Guest Network is MAC-filtered like the primary network

    If I set up a guest network it's because i want my guests to be able to connect easily. How stupid is it that the primary and guest networks share the same MAC address access list??? It means that in order to connect, guests have to be registered into my AirPort! Imagine the length of the list!
    A decent product all in all, but really such a ridiculous oversight on the part of Apple for the most expensive wireless router out there is not acceptable. You can get £15 wireless routers that manage to get this one right!

    Deception

    Very poor performance on video streaming, frequently showing network.error or network unavailable. My old router works a lot better. Also, it don't have mac filtering..

    Not a fan

    I "upgraded" to this device only to find out that it lacks the ability to monitor usage. Competing products offer an ability to monitor traffic and thus usage of your WIFI/internet connections but this device does not.

    In addition, the updated Apple Airport configuration utility (which is used to configure the device) is extremely limited and the user interface is simply awful... one of the worst applications I've ever seen from out of Apple.

    So, if you're looking for the best WIFI router with the best features, my recommendation as the owner of one of these is to look elsewhere. (I wish I had).

    Wouldn't work.

    I tried for hours and could not make it work properly. If I got wired internet to the iMac I coudn't get wired internet to the Apple TV and vice versa. I only got wifi to my iPhone once and never to my MacBook Air or iPad. I returned it to B&H for a refund. Whilst travelling I went into an Apple store and had them open, set up, and test an AirPort Time Capsule which, so far, has worked faultlessly.

    HORRIBLE

    HORRIBLE FOR THE PRICE! Expensive router that is NOT worth the MONEY! Router is NOT reliable at all. Like many other routers your internet will decrease dramatically in speed for no reason other than it needs to be reset. Not huge but when you're paying $200 for a router, it would be nice to not have to reset it every other day. Thanks for nothing.

    Spend $199 for a $39 router

    What you won't be able to do with this router:
    1. Use a AT&T microcell. It just won't work.
    2. Use dyndns to match your domain name to your IP
    3. MAP ports to local IP addresses
    4. use guest WiFi in bridge mode because you bought another router and just using this airport-extreme-piece-of-sh for wifi only.

    unable to set up properly

    i'm having no luck with the Air Port Utility in the set up process. making changes to settings is not easy. My old Belkin was easier for me to understand. so until i can figure out how to extend my network on my airport extreme with my airport express both purchases are worthless.
