Premium case at a premium price.

    • Written by from Worthington

I recently ditched my perfectly functioning iPad3 for the new Retina iPad Mini because I really wanted a book sized tablet that I could type easily on. I'll admit when I bought my Mini I was less than thrilled about paying an extra 70 dollars for a case but after a week of use I can say this particular product exceeds expectations and is worth the money. There isn't much added weight, the protection is great, and it feels like a premium product should just the way the iPad itself was designed to be. The smart unlock feature is great and the stand is sturdy. I would recommend this case to anyone who is looking to protect their investment.

Function meets design in perfect harmony.

    • Written by from Brandon

First off I want to say that i was skeptical when i went to buy this case, but i am pleased with it.
I did go buy it when it was released and have constantly used it since. I am extreamly carefull with my ipad and have only droped it ones and thankfully it was with this case and only a half bodys legnth from the ground, only minor damage to the case thats barely noticeable cosmeticly it has not effected my ipad in the slightest.
-The magnets on the case do their job and have not warn-out so far as i have noticed.
    -Sturdy corners.
-case does not slip off of the iPad mini
-there is some space where the back of the case meets with the front, the crease isn't perfect and does lift off of the ipad just a little. but this may be just a problem with my case and isn't that big a deal.
-the magnets won't magnatize your screen or the inner workings. I saw a review on the old smart cover for the big iPad that blamed the case for slowing down their ipad... Pfft
Its a good case for moderate to light protection of your iPad mini. Good design and matirials were used to make it. complements the iPad perfectly
The only thing wrong with it if there is something wrong is the price. But you are paying for leather and brilliant design, if it seems pricey after that, than see if at the store they'll let you try it on for size. once you've seen it on your ipad you'll have no choice than to buy it.

Case is good - 3 fold cover is AWEFUL!!!!

    • Written by from Vancouver

The case protects the iPad really well but what I really do not like is the cover. I have a iPad 4 with the Apple smart case that has the 4 tab cover. When you fold it one tab folds inside and holds the fold together really well. But with the 3 tab it relies on a magnet to hold the fold together, which it doesn’t do. When you try to type or put any pressure on it when its in landscape mode the fold just collapses. The size of the folds are bigger now and do not fit in your hand as well as they use to also so its not as comfortable to hold when reading in the vertical position. I would recommend any other one that has a 4 tab cover.

    Flawed design

    • Written by from Croydon

This case seems like a good design at first but it soon becomes clear there are some major flaws. The magnets that hold it shut aren't strong enough, so the case falls open really easily, and the cutout for the headphone jack is so narrow that you can't plug in most good quality headphones. Obviously they've designed it to fit the very narrow connectors on Apple branded headphones. It also has a tendency to collapse when you're using it as a stand. Even just the pressure of typing on it is enough to make it fall over. I'll be seeing about getting a refund.

    Great, but...

    • Written by from Årslev

It's really nice imo, but there's one thing about it that annoys me to the bone... The hole to the mini jack plug is simply not wide enough. I have two different, but absolutely standard headphones and none of them can be plugged for proper connection. The result is wooly or monophonic sound if any sound at all and/or a plug dropping out occasionally, just because I'm not holding the iPad completely still.

I'm amazed that Apple approved this.

Excellent case that fits old and new iPad Mini's

    • Written by from Indianapolis

I bought this case and it arrived before my new iPad mini so I put my old one it the case and it first perfectly. It feels excellent in the hands and feels very durable, as you could possibly drop it and not damage it (which I have no proof of).

I bought black and it look excellent. The main thing is this a) feels great in my hands b) fits the old mini perfect (guess there most not be much size change due to the new Retina screen).

I don't give it 5 stars due to price. I have bought a lot of Apple products in the last 5 years. While they make excellent products, the prices for their accessories are always more than they are worth in my opinion. You can argue about their products but cases, cables etc - this is hard to argue.

    Flawed design – steer clear!

    • Written by from Redlands

I bought my wife an iPad mini with a light blue Smart Case as a gift. She liked the color, feel, and fit. However, it simply doesn’t work as a stand for watching video, lap reading, or typing. It collapses within a few minutes even when watching video on a solid kitchen table. On a kitchen table it holds the mini upright just long enough to make you believe that a bit more use will crease the fold more so it will work. She used it for two weeks but it never got better. Watching her frustration using it on an airline tray table was the final straw that caused me to order a Logitech case with a sturdier stand.

I’ve been buying Apple products since 1983 (Apple IIe) and this is the first that was a total disappointment—steer clear of this one.

    Horrible

Cheap quality of the leather. Mine already ripped. It doesn't prop up well at all. My iPad mini fell flat when using the stand.

    Go with something else

    • Written by from BERRIEN SPRINGS

I really wanted to like this case. I'm a big apple fan. I've been using a case from Invellop and have like it, but it's started to come apart after a year, so I started looking for something else.

Today I bought the Smart Case for my mini. Here are the main things I didn't like:

    1. There is a sharp edge on the left side when the case is closed. Apple: please fix this. It's uncomfortable to hold with one hand because of this. Of course, when the case is opened and flipped back on itself, the sharp edge is gone, but that's besides the point.

    2. When the case is opened, and the front cover is folded to the back to hold with one hand--why is there not a magnet on the back of the case so that it holds in place? The Invellop case, which I think costed me $15 has this and it's a nice feature to have. But with this case, if you're holding it with one hand, there's always a piece of the cover that's hanging down a little because there's not a magnet there to hold it in place.

Yes, those two things are enough to do it for me. Apple, if you fix this I will gladly keep the case. Instead, I will return it tomorrow. What did I order instead? I ordered a case from Khomo.

    Much love.

Very pleased, better materials than I thought

    • Written by from Lexington

I didn't expect much from this case other than a good fit and protection all around form my iPad Air. After having it 2 weeks and heavy use, I'm pleased with it. It isn't going to be the case for everyone, but I've always asked this question "Why make all these super thing phones and tablets, then just throw them in a case 3x thicker?"

I got rid of my old iPad original, and with this case on, I can still put the entire thing in my old iPad's loose fitting soft case which has handles and pockets, etc. The leather is very nice, although I saw some negative reviews, it is much nicer than the polyurethane former case yet still very thin.

It can be a bit precarious at times to get the magnets to hold the 3-fold case together as a prop, but in general it isn't a problem. I've never had a problem of the iPad falling over or even seeming like it might. The case is a perfect fit, the speaker, microphone and other opens seem perfectly cut out.

The only Cons so far are the fact the case seems to attract a lot of dust that then gets stuck on the screen and in the sides of the case. The creases in the leather cover seem like they might be a bit fragile and may wear sooner than the rest of the case. Also, the hinge quickly seemed to not close flat after short use. The cover lats flat on the iPad except right near the hinge, where it seems to push away from the glass a little bit

I Really Wanted To Like It

    • Written by from Arlington

    Pros

    Well-made
    Sturdy
Fits the iPad mini Retina well

    Cons

Stability: I found it tumbled over frequently with anything more than the most ginger of touches.

Bottom Line: Perfect for some, not for me.

    VERY Pleased

    • Written by from Huntington Beach

Having just upgraded from the original iPad 1 to a new retina iPad Mini I had to purchase a new case. I was not a fan of the original iPad covers, by Apple, and was therefore hesitant to purchase this one. But the design seemed greatly improved and the fact that Apple made the switch to leather helped in making my decision. This case is beautiful in design, function, and material. It adds very little weight to the tablet and is easy to grip with one had as if reading a book (which is what I was going for with this purchase). The price was hard to swallow, but if it hold up as well as my oiginal iPad case I'll be just fine.

    Surprisingly good

    • Written by from Williamsburg

Not perfect, but very good. It fits the new iPad Mini Retina well, shuts off the screen when the cover is closed, protects the device well and still leaves the iPad Mini small and light. There are only two small nits to pick. With the cover folded to hold the device up in landscape position, there is not quite enough friction to hold up to aggressive tying on the virtual keyboard. I may add a small piece of friction tape or Velcro. The other minor complaint is price. On the other hand, It is genuine leather. Maybe I'm just cheap : ) I'm still happy to have it, though.

I don't understand the other reviewer's complaint about favoring left-handers. When the iPad Mini is installed in the case correctly, the home button is on the right side. OK with me (a right- hander).

I got this with the iPad so they've never been apart. It is understated function and quality - no fuss and no unnecessary bells and whistles. There are cheaper covers - and some more expensive - but this is the one that is just right.

Beautiful materials and superb finish! Expensive

    • Written by from Cary

The case is really perfect. No metal exposed from magnets like the older generation smart covers. Feels really lush in hand and looks fantastic. I own both the smart case and the Smart Cover . The tri fold has no issues really. This case keeps the feel of a super light ipad. It does not add any bulk. The screen is also protected since the case protrudes a mm around the edges of the ipad screen. Only complaint is the price. Although u get what I pay for, I think 69$ is steep for a case considering its resale value is null after having used it. But I still vote this as the best cover. The apple logo on the back (imprint) is also high quality! I highly recommend it if you can spare 69$

    Unbelievable Quality

    • Written by from Long Beach

I love my new iPad so much that I searched the internet for the best case/cover that I could find. There are a lot of options out there but the Smart Case is the best. The fit, function and feel are superb. I'm so happy with my decision, that it actually came back to the store and left a review. Awesome.

    Not for kids

Looks pretty when new but gets dirty very quickly. Worse, when dropped from only about 3 feet while in this case the screen still shattered; a $200 repair. Nice for a careful adult not sharing with kids only.

    Great Case, Poor Stand

    • Written by from Ottawa

This is an excellent protective cover, and worth buying just for that – it's a perfect fit and the cover is easy to use. But it's not a great stand at all: upright, the iPad is likely to fall forward, and set up either of the two ways it is not secure with its weak magnet which separates with the slightest influence. I've added ultra-thin black Velcro strips to the back and outside cover to hold it at different and better angles, and it is much improved. I feel the stand aspect of this case is another clever design idea from Apple that is less than functional. Minimalism is great but shouldn't exclude function.

    poor quality

    • Written by from Cherry Grove

My case won't hold the mini in place, can't use it for fear of the iPad falling out and breaking. The part of the case where the charging cord plugs in has ripped and Apple doesn't replace these as it's considered normal wear and tear. I seldom use the iPad , only for traveling, it broke in 4 months, and it's apparently happened to others. It was an expensive option but the iPad was a big investment so I considered it an insurance purchase. Don't waste your time or money on the cases until they fix them.
