It's unfortunate that this cord is so necessary. I've gone through three different lightning cords in the four months I've had my iPhone 5. All three have inexplicably stopped working. Each has gotten a short in the cord where it meets the lightning end though I've been careful to leave them straight, treat them gently (especially since the first failed). With my current cord, I have to hold the lightning end of the cord in a certain direction to get it to work.

On top of that, when it happens to short out, it interferes with the electric current, disabling linked ports. i.e. when it shorts out in any of my computers' USB ports, the other ports become inactive as well (disabling my external hard drive and USB mouse); when it is plugged in a charger with multiple outputs, the other outputs become inactive as well.

After buying several chargers, three iPods, three iPhones, and an iPad, I had amassed ten of the old 30-pin connectors. All ten work just as well as they did when I brought them home; I took it for granted that I never had an issue with any of them.

In 9 days, I had to go back to the Apple store twice. The first time, the cable was shorting at the base. The second time, the cable just stopped working. I use this with a brand new iPhone 5. The cables were covered under warranty.

This can be a serious problem when i travel with the The iPhone 5. I have owned Apple products for years and this is the worse reliability issue that I have experienced with these products.

We used this cable normally, mainly to recharge our iPad mini. A little after four months, it just stopped working. Now have to pay $20 bucks for a replacement. And only available through Apple, makes me wonder if they want it to break often. Shoddy material, shoddy practice. NOT what I used to get from Apple; sadly, however, it is what I have come to expect.

Original cable stopped working within a two months of light usage (I have other chargers I use on bedside and in car). All cables at some time have triggered the 'Charging not supported on this device' message, forcing a re-plug. In general the Lighnting connection seems less durable and more touchy than the previous cable system.

All up, factoring in the expense of new cables/converters and the fact it's not noticeably faster, it's hard to see the Lightning connection as anything else but a backwards step.

In less then 4 months, 3 cables stopped functioning, the first came with my iPhone 5 which I bought last December, the lattest stopped functioning after less than 1 month after I bought my Ipad mini... DISSAPOINTED!!!!!

I had my iPad Mini for less than two weeks before the cord gave out. I had it plugged into my computer and it overcharged my Mini melting down the battery, Luckily it was still covered by the warranty and I was sent another iPad, but will it happen again? No the quality I was expecting.

Paid a big price for the IPad 4 and the cord is already broken. You would think apple would have better quality. Mine broke where it plugs into the IPad. Too flimsy and weak!!! I think they should replace them for free, with a new better made cord.

this isn't chump change and it makes me angry. my macbook circa 2008 is a champ. iphone 3gs chugs along no problem. guess i should be thankful for these things. but i go tomorrow to pick up my third lightning cable and 4th or 5th 30 pin for the 3gs. and wall street is worried about apple's stock? c'mon!

Wire broken/disengaged where plugs into device on 2 different iPods within 4 months. Very flimsy/poor quality.
