    Best router I've owned!

    • Written by

The main reason I bought this was for backups / other storage, but ended up with a very nice surprise.
I've tried many different brands / top of the line wifi routers to try and reach my TV/PS3 in a (wifi unfriendly) nook in my living room, only to return them since I would get no signal there. Only luck I've had is with my upgraded FIOS wifi router, but the signal is marginal at best. I ended up using a power line AV adapter to get a decent signal without having to wire ethernet.
Well I hooked up my new time capsule (directly next to my existing router) and tried it out just for fun in that location, not expecting to see anything. I got a FULL signal there...450 mbps connection. Did an internet speed test (I have the 50 mbps FIOS plan) - clocked at 45 mbps! My previous (and best) router got 5 mbps at best there...typically more like 1 - 2. VERY pleasantly surprised with this routers performance and range, so needless to say it has completely replaced my old router in addition to being a great backup drive.

    Significant range/speed improvement

    • Written by from Puyallup

I purchased the AirPort Time Capsule with increased range in mind, as I don't have any devices that support 102.11ac yet. I figured the additional antennas and new configuration would improve the range, and so far that seems to be the case. I was previously using a 1 TB Time Capsule, 102.11n, and devices in the back bedroom (about 100-125 feet away, around several corners) struggled to get a good signal.

I did several tests in the back corner of the back bedroom on my iPhone 5 (Speedtest.net app) before and after the upgrade. I have a 50+ MBPS connection. The average before the upgrade was 3.5 MPBS down and 0.75 MBPS up. After the upgrade, I averaged 7.5 MBPS down and 8.25 MPBS up. That is about 2x boost in speed down and 10x boost in speed up. Because I am still using the 102.11n technology, I believe that these speed increases are due to the improvement in range.

    Fantastic throughput, good hard disk

    • Written by from Köln

I am extremely happy with this Time Capsule. Using it as my base station with two Airport Express, three Airplay-capable sound systems and numerous mobile devices (plus a Desktop) attached, I see way better throughput on the 5 GHz band than with my prior Airport Extreme. I have no problems constantly reaching 105+ Mbit/s connection speeds with this product. The hard disk is easily mounted and shows fast and reliable transfer speeds. Thumbs up, Apple.

    Best WiFi

    • Written by from SAINT JOHNS

Holy Guacamole!! Perfect form factor. Extremely easy replacement of older Time Capsule. Plug in new unit, launch Airport utility on Mac, software will give you default option of replacing old Time Capsule, though option for manual config is available. Click ok to replace older unit, software will prompt you to move cables from old Time Capsule to new one then copy all old settings over to new unit and reset old one to factory default. I had multiple assigned ip addresses and server services running on previous Time Capsule copy and new unit running in 10 min. Speedtest showed I was exceeding standard Comcast speed in my Internet package. Much improved network coverage in large home. Thanks for the big improvement Apple!!!

    The.Best.Wireless.Router.Ever

    • Written by from Columbus

I've been through a lot of wireless routers. Especially lately. I've bought many of the most expensive recent releases by Netgear, Belkin, and others. They all disappointed....and frustrated me, because my electronics didn't work like they were intended to.
Then I bought the previous version of Time Capsule about 4 months ago. It was better than the rest, so I kept it. But it also had signal problems with my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro. I just decided I would have to deal with it. I was still frustrated :-( but at least I had a backup hard drive! :-)
When the new Airport Time Capsule was released this past week I knew I'd have to try it out and compare it with the previous version the I owned. I could just return it if the wifi wasn't what I wanted....
After testing it out for a few days....... THE SIGNAL IS AMAZING! My Bose Airplay speakers work perfectly from all my devices... Finally! My Apple TV streams Netflix and HULU with ease...Finally! HD Internet Videos stream from my MacBook Pro with no delays...Finally! No.Dropped.Signals.Period.
I love the Time Capsule Feature, but I already had that same feature in my last product, what I love in the new Airport Time Capsule is the HIGH quality of connection to all my devices, despite the fact that all of them are only 802.11n products. I can't wait until more 802.11ac products are released.
Whatever they did with that Beamforming Antenna Array stuff...It's working. ;-) Good job Apple.

Excellent range, speed and ease of backup make this a WINNER!

    • Written by from Homer Glen

I had only purchased the previous model a few months ago, I decided over the weekend that I would purchase the new MacBook Air, so I wanted to get the newer AirPort with the AC wireless speed to match. We have a 9000 sft home so I use a few airport express units to spread coverage. I unplugged the previous AirPort Extreme and plugged in my new AirPort Time capsule 2T, at first the airport express units were not found so I completed a hard reset (small button on back of unit) and restarted the set-up. The units were found and added easily and the system is now running. Even without using the new MacBook Air with AC the router seems faster (getting WIFI speeds of 17mbps from an 18mbps measured on hard-wire)

Excellent system, Apple I need you to come out with a smart home system now to tie all of this together!

    Awesome Upgrade!

    • Written by from San Francisco

My Original Apple Time Capsule was already phenomenal. This redesign and upgraded AC Technology with backward compatibility with Dual N,G,B,and A signals just made my desktop a little more spacious. The footprint is smaller and the signal is excellent. Plus the USB option in the back lets me expand my storage with an external USB hard drive and access it wirelessly. Awesome Upgrade!

NEW TIME CAPSULE IS A BEAST!

    • Written by from Houston

I had a new Airport Extreme and Airport Express (both bought within the last year) that were bridged together in my apartment. The Airport Extreme had to be plugged directly into my Xbox for a strong connection, and the Airport Express range was mediocre at best (I have concrete walls in my apartment which have always been a problem).

This new Airport Time Capsule has allowed me to get rid of both Airports, AND the signal is strong without a direct connect to my Xbox. The strength of the signal is as powerful as they say! Best router I have ever seen, by a long shot.

    Simply fantastic!

    • Written by from Flower Mound

I have owned MANY WiFi routers over the years and this Airport Time Capsule is by far the best. I’ve seen complaints that it is too expensive, however if you were to purchase another high end WiFi router and a 2TB external drive it would cost you well over $300. Super easy to configure yet has the key configuration options you need such as port forwarding and WPS setup for printers. It was easy to extend my network to a second Airport Extreme with the Airport Utility, just a few clicks and I have excellent coverage in all parts of a large one story home.

    Great Router, huge update.

    • Written by from Cloverport

It works very well, and with the new taller design and ability to send extra "waves" to where your device is, it's great. Also, if you have an older one and are upgrading, I suggest using your old one to extend the network.

    Worked as expected

    • Written by from Benicia

Worked just as expected. Set up was easy and I was surprised about the range of the wireless. A bit confused about Time Capsule but that is user related :) Since there are only three LAN connections I opted to use a switch instead since I prefer to hardwire. Worked with no problems. Overall I am happy with the purchase and I would recommend to everybody else who is looking for a easy to use system that allows access to the internet and a complete back-up solution.

This worked perfect on my iMac that isn't the new Mac Book Air like some people have been commenting on in the Questions & Answers area for this product. It is super fast, sleek and the smaller foot print is nice to boot. Backs up faster too.

    Replaces 1TB TC.

    • Written by from MILLINGTON

Connect, plug it in and it just works. I have 4 AP expresses on my network for music and 3 of 4 were recognized right away. Fourth I unplugged and plugged back and it showed up in AP Utilty.

Although not faster because I don't have wifi AC equipped devices, the connection was much better.
Time Machine BU of my iMac took only 2+20. The old TC took over nite.

Backing up MBAir now... Looks fast also.

Here's hoping that the new iPads, iPhones will have this faster wifi standard

Very good but a bit unattractive

    • Written by from West Drayton

For functionality and utility I have given this five stars. it is really easy to set up and get working, and the backup works incredibly fast in my view. Please note though, that it is a router and so you still need an ADSL modem (or whichever you use for your broadband) to plug the Airport into. For some ISPs they will lock their modem down so you can not use it in bridge mode, which restricts some of the functionality of the Airport router. However, the Airport is strong and fast and I am really happy with it.

With regards to the looks, this is bigger than I thought it would be. The footprint is quite small but this is a lot taller than I had imagined and as such it does look rather odd, so be aware of that if it is important to you. Also note that for UK prices this is very expensive indeed.

For functionality and utility, this is fantastic and for me I am very happy with my purchase.

Apple Support for setup issues is outstanding

    • Written by from Coto de Caza

I bought the 2TB Time Capsule to replace an original Time Capsule that was maxed out. Plugged everything in and could not get the internet to come back up. I called our ISP (Cox Cable) and they were able to get my internet back up going directly from the cable modem to my iMac. But that bypassed the Time Capsule and therefore no WIFI. When I then routed the cable modem back to the Time Capsule, again no internet. I messed around with it a while and finally asked for support from Apple on the web site. Got a call back from them in half a minute, and within 5 minutes they walked me through the DHCP settings on the Time Machine to get it right. It's been great since then. Kudos to Apple for outstanding customer support and a great product!

    Best router I've ever owned!

    • Written by from Edwardsburg

After owning several Linksys routers over the last 15 years and seeing the reliability get worse, I decided to change directions and purchased the AirPort Time Capsule 2TB. Not only was I surprised to experience completely smooth Time Machine backups, but the strength of the the Wi-Fi signal was absolutely amazing! I couldn't recommend this product more highly.

Exceptional performance, easy setup, WiFi never blazed like this before.

    • Written by from Kansas City

Always had luck with the Airport Extreme base station and wanted to get 802.11ac performance with Google Fiber and a new iMac. Once everything was in place, there is a wow factor with the numbers. Downloaded an 11.7 Gb file in 7 minutes. Sustained 680 Mbps speed on an internet speed test site with a similar upload speed. That's through a WiFi. There may be other routers out there but I'm kind of astounded at the leap forward with this particular offering over the last one. Ease of use, agree with others. After I set it up, it was like, "That's it? It's working?" I extended the network with the AirPort Extreme, again very easily.

I'm happy with the time it took to backup 70 Gb of data as well, about 45 minutes. Pretty solid performance. The previous setup would take 20 hours to perform the same task.

If there are any downsides I just don't see them. This one performs exactly as promised.

Incredible, I don't get the bad reviews at all!

    • Written by from Troy

I was surprised to see so many people writing bad reviews about things as silly as not liking the packaging! I bought one anyway trusting apple like I have been for the last 10 years, and I have not been let down! My previous router was putting out 35-40mbs when I was supposed to be getting 100. After only 5 minutes of setting up (literally) I was running at 115 mbs right away. Other people have complained that it took hours for their backup...The setup manual specifically states that due to the very large amount of data being backed up during the first initial backup you should connect via ethernet. I was going to sleep anyways so I didn't bother, but for those of you who don't want to wait 6-8 hours for your first backup (mine was 1/2 a terabit) then you should plug it in. All backups since have only taken a few minutes and I don't even notice they are happening.

    Top of the line!

    • Written by from Bridgeview

Went into my local electronics store looking for a new router. I went over to the shelf and picked up a high-end wireless router ($300) Walked over to look at the apple stuff. Started talking to the Apple attended on staff at the store. He informed me that Apple also has a wireless router that is easier to set up And very user-friendly with AC technology ( The latest Wireless Technology) . I certainly did not know this! ( Apple needs to advertise this more) I also was informed for the same manufacturers price of other high-end wireless router! Apple offers a high-end wireless router with a 2 TB hard drive for back ups. I was very interested in this because we own two MacBook Pros with retina display. I purchased the Apple airport time capsule took it home to set it up. The set up was so very easy! From unboxing the airport Time capsule to completion was only 7 minutes! I was totally blown away with the AC Wi-Fi range! I'm getting double the wi-Fi distance that I was used to!! Thank You Apple for simplifying our lives! Keep up the great work!!
