Excellent range, speed and ease of backup make this a WINNER!

    • Written by from Homer Glen

I had only purchased the previous model a few months ago, I decided over the weekend that I would purchase the new MacBook Air, so I wanted to get the newer AirPort with the AC wireless speed to match. We have a 9000 sft home so I use a few airport express units to spread coverage. I unplugged the previous AirPort Extreme and plugged in my new AirPort Time capsule 2T, at first the airport express units were not found so I completed a hard reset (small button on back of unit) and restarted the set-up. The units were found and added easily and the system is now running. Even without using the new MacBook Air with AC the router seems faster (getting WIFI speeds of 17mbps from an 18mbps measured on hard-wire)

Excellent system, Apple I need you to come out with a smart home system now to tie all of this together!

I'd like to like it but..

    • Written by from Minneapolis

Instead of what I guess I've grown accustom to with Apple products just 'working' upon plug in, this unit was not the case. As someone that's installed many routers, setup dozens of networks, and am pretty well versed with computers, I expected setting up this device to be a breeze. My old Linksys router is shot, so I splurged $300 on this unit to contribute to my growing Apple monopoly. So far, its been somewhat of a disaster. After hours of phone calls to Apple and my ISP, I still do not have it setup. I ended up plugging my old router back in and just settled for its lagging speeds. Occasionally I will plug in the ethernet line to time capsule, only to get a blinking orange light that states I do not have an ISP address. If every other router (I tried a generic B router as well) can detect this, why can't Time Capsule? I do no know. Apple has told me I need to contact my ISP, as the issue is on their end, but its not, if I am able to plug my computer in via ethernet or use other routers. I'll give it a few days, if not, I guess I'll be returning this unit. I really had high expectations :-(

NEW TIME CAPSULE IS A BEAST!

    • Written by from Houston

I had a new Airport Extreme and Airport Express (both bought within the last year) that were bridged together in my apartment. The Airport Extreme had to be plugged directly into my Xbox for a strong connection, and the Airport Express range was mediocre at best (I have concrete walls in my apartment which have always been a problem).

This new Airport Time Capsule has allowed me to get rid of both Airports, AND the signal is strong without a direct connect to my Xbox. The strength of the signal is as powerful as they say! Best router I have ever seen, by a long shot.

    Simply fantastic!

    • Written by from Flower Mound

I have owned MANY WiFi routers over the years and this Airport Time Capsule is by far the best. I’ve seen complaints that it is too expensive, however if you were to purchase another high end WiFi router and a 2TB external drive it would cost you well over $300. Super easy to configure yet has the key configuration options you need such as port forwarding and WPS setup for printers. It was easy to extend my network to a second Airport Extreme with the Airport Utility, just a few clicks and I have excellent coverage in all parts of a large one story home.

    Awesome Upgrade!

    • Written by from San Francisco

My Original Apple Time Capsule was already phenomenal. This redesign and upgraded AC Technology with backward compatibility with Dual N,G,B,and A signals just made my desktop a little more spacious. The footprint is smaller and the signal is excellent. Plus the USB option in the back lets me expand my storage with an external USB hard drive and access it wirelessly. Awesome Upgrade!

    Router ok-Backup doesn't work

    • Written by from Ventura

Since purchase in July, I have been unable to back up the "time machine" aspect as it will shut down my computer and restart with a significant error message. Have sent these to Apple without a response/fix. Have posted on tech boards without response/fix. Thought that I was making my life easier, but id doesn't work as a back up. Router works fine, so it is a very expensive router. This is from an Apple only person-extremely disappointed with this and Apple's support.

    Careful with packaging!!

    • Written by from Carrboro

I read many reviews complaining about the packaging.. I thought they all sounded whiny but I went ahead and expected hazard when opening so I was really really careful ...and it STILL dropped out of the box and crashed on the floor! There is no way to prepare for the unboxing of this poorly-packaged product ..maybe just do it over a bunch of pillows. You've been warned! (again)

Not made for saving Adobe CS files... (?)

    • Written by from Ste-Adele

I Bought the airport TC 2TB to use as an external hard drive and a router... The Router part of it works just fine! The External Hard Drive part of it is not as great if you work on Adobe Creative Suite. Can't save Photoshop or Illustrator files without crashing... an unknown problem that feeds threads on the forums. If you use as Back up with Time Machine... then buy it, if you plan on working on it, saving files, especially if you do Graphic Design, it just doesn't do it! - I tried calling Apple, checking with Adobe... no one seems to have the solution. The 2 stars is for the Router part. I returned the item since it was no use for me.

    Cool, when it works

    • Written by from San Francisco

Bought this device shortly after release. When it works, it's cool. But, most of the time I am dealing with connection drops and devices no longer seeing the Time Capsule. Sometimes I will lose internet connectivity, despite being still connected to the wireless. Only fix is to turn wireless on/off. Other times, I will lose my connection to the wireless network entirely. Very close to returning this unless a fix comes out in the very near future.

    Internet & Squeezebox problems

    • Written by from Emery

Great idea to have router and backup on one place, but it unexpectedly drops internet connection. The Express side works fine until I set up a network to use Time Capsule then it will not connect with my Logitech players. Customer service could not solve problem.

    Great product. Terrible packaging. Beware!

    • Written by from MOOLOOLABA

BEWARE! When unboxing this unit there is a very high chance of dropping it.

The top outer box does not slide off easily so two hands will be required to pull the box apart. Unfortunately there is no supporting packaging around the capsule so with one hand holding the top box and one holding the bottom box the unit just falls out to the floor.

For all the stunning packaging Apple has for other products its amazing they let this one through.

Once running (hopefully not damaged) this product is a dream to set up and its range is fantastic. Very quiet and a great small footprint. Highly recommend just be careful opening.

    Great Router, huge update.

    • Written by from Cloverport

It works very well, and with the new taller design and ability to send extra "waves" to where your device is, it's great. Also, if you have an older one and are upgrading, I suggest using your old one to extend the network.

Very good but a bit unattractive

    • Written by from West Drayton

For functionality and utility I have given this five stars. it is really easy to set up and get working, and the backup works incredibly fast in my view. Please note though, that it is a router and so you still need an ADSL modem (or whichever you use for your broadband) to plug the Airport into. For some ISPs they will lock their modem down so you can not use it in bridge mode, which restricts some of the functionality of the Airport router. However, the Airport is strong and fast and I am really happy with it.

With regards to the looks, this is bigger than I thought it would be. The footprint is quite small but this is a lot taller than I had imagined and as such it does look rather odd, so be aware of that if it is important to you. Also note that for UK prices this is very expensive indeed.

For functionality and utility, this is fantastic and for me I am very happy with my purchase.

    Super Fast! Awesome

    • Written by from Aptos

This worked perfect on my iMac that isn't the new Mac Book Air like some people have been commenting on in the Questions & Answers area for this product. It is super fast, sleek and the smaller foot print is nice to boot. Backs up faster too.

    Worked as expected

    • Written by from Benicia

Worked just as expected. Set up was easy and I was surprised about the range of the wireless. A bit confused about Time Capsule but that is user related :) Since there are only three LAN connections I opted to use a switch instead since I prefer to hardwire. Worked with no problems. Overall I am happy with the purchase and I would recommend to everybody else who is looking for a easy to use system that allows access to the internet and a complete back-up solution.

    Replaces 1TB TC.

    • Written by from MILLINGTON

Connect, plug it in and it just works. I have 4 AP expresses on my network for music and 3 of 4 were recognized right away. Fourth I unplugged and plugged back and it showed up in AP Utilty.

Although not faster because I don't have wifi AC equipped devices, the connection was much better.
Time Machine BU of my iMac took only 2+20. The old TC took over nite.

Backing up MBAir now... Looks fast also.

Here's hoping that the new iPads, iPhones will have this faster wifi standard

    Not reliable

    • Written by from Redlands

I had an older version (2012) of the 2TB Air Port Time Capsule (the square flat one) and it just failed without warning after about a year and a half. Took it to the Genius Bar for diagnosing and they asked me "you have this all backed up, right?" ha ha ha, the Time Capsule WAS the back up!!

I could feel the unit was working (could feel heat and hum) but no light on the front. No way to recover data. It just bricked one day. Had to pay to replace the whole thing, no recovery, no apple care, no replacement.

I'd recommend another brand based on their inability to even apologize that all my archived data just disappeared.

    Connectivity issues.

    • Written by from Chicago

After 5 years it was time to upgrade the old Time Machine. The speed on the 11ac version is great. But it is constantly losing connection. I bought one TC, and it was dropping connection with my iphone or ipad all the time. I had to powerdown and power back up (or toggle airplane more) almost constantly. Then, when my macbook tried to run a time machine backup, it gets interrupted every time since it can't hold the signal.

I returned the initial unit (past the 14 days, but I think the store told employees to take them). I really like the idea of the new TC so I just got a new one on the spot. Its having the same issues. Very frustrating. I'm not giving up, and I'm hopeful that its just a software issue. But I really wish apple would hurry up and come up with a remedy.

    No USB 3.0

Given the current state of technology and the price of this device, to not include a USB 3.0 port is absurd.
