    Time Capsule (replaced 3 times)

    • Written by from Lorraine

The Time Capsule (2T) has been nothing but a nightmare. You just need to negative reviews to understand why I am rating it as a lemon (disconnecting, slow to backup, unreliable, unaccessible etc.) As for the people that are finding it a true miracle, it would be interesting to know how long these people have had their unit and to which product they are comparing it to. I have two other different hard disks and they work much better than this! I should have known better that to buy something that does wi-fi and backup. I am finding that it just doesn't work!

    Poor performance

    • Written by from Lelystad

Wifi signal is horrible, I have 2 of them to have signal in my home.
Performance is horrible, I tried to use it for iTunes, but due to performance issues iTunes will not download to that location.
Backup doesn't work on the Timecapsule due to performance issues.
I used the time capsule as router.... Well it brings back old times, just like a dial up connection..
Apple TV streaming.... nah, forget it.
Apple support??? HA, I would be better of asking my wife.

This all on a stable internet connection of 200Mbits. Got my old router back and my old NAS, all problems are over.

Worst external disk I ever had

    • Written by from NEW YORK

    I DO NOT RECOMMEND
Constant connection problems with my Macbook air in any kind of OS for several months, no solution. Go buy something else, doesn't worth it.

    Impressed!!!

    • Written by from Chicago

I had a Linksys router and separate Seagate backup drive. As a router the Time Capsule blows the Linksys away! My Linksys router picked up interference and lost its signal whenever I used my microwave, and I had to reconnect to my network whenever I brought my Mac Air out of sleep mode. The Time Capsule never drops, has no issues with the microwave, and all my devices automatically pick it up. Time Machine make back ups a piece of cake and there’s never a need to connect to an external drive. I just turn on Time Machine. Set up was a breeze – only required a couple of mouse clicks.

I was an Apple doubter for a longtime. But I am sold! They are way more than a mobile phone company!

Hands down, best stylish and fastest router.

    • Written by from Garland

Now this is router quality you get for the price even if it's Apple! Nothing compares to this which Inlove most about using the time capsule for it. Wish Microsoft thought of this at the time because this is a huge leap forward to making the most of my experience. Speed of light, I can be as far as I want in my home and the range is still perfect! My neighbors are impressed how they can connect from their homes to.

    Very Pleased

    • Written by from Gloucester

Hooked up my new TC and all of my devices found the new network easily. I'm router phobic and was dreading the switch over to a new router but it went off without a hitch - well except for one device - my HP eprinter simply refused to find the new network. Once I went in and manually entered the network name, the printer found it immediately. Everything is up and running perfectly. I couldn't be more pleased.

    Love my TC

    • Written by from Vancouver

The time capsule has improved my productivity immensely in terms of storage, retrieval and creating files non-linearly. Love the fact that I can go back in time and get different versions of files without saving them in my folder using version 1,2,3... Also when my graphics card went I was able to recover the whole system exactly as it was before the crash (unfortunately crashes sometimes do happen even to Apple). Everyone should have one!

Apple products are space age technology and you are missing if you dont own this or any of their products.

    Airport Express/Extreme

    • Written by from Manassas

I love the Apple Airport Express and Extreme for handling an additional Mac, MacBook Pro and Netflix. They're great. However, I have issues with the Time Capsule as being too slow and temperamental. I prefer hard wired backups. SuperDuper updates in less than 2 minutes on two USB 3.0 drives and the Time Machine works great too.

    Excellent Router and Back-Up

    • Written by from Harvest

Great and simple user experience. Plug it in, select it on your computer, assign password, done. Even though it was big (200+ Gigs) first back up over wi-fi, that went seamlessly in approx. four hours.

Time Capsule saves me data on my cell phone carrier: Previously my kids on the other end of the house would lose the wi-fi signal and their phones would revert to cellular data. With the AirPort time Capsule they now get 3 or 4 bars and wi-fi is never dropped. Download speeds are fine, have not even bothered hard wiring the unit to my 5K Retina iMac as originally planned.

    Not ready for prime time

    • Written by from Round Rock

It works well when it works, but almost daily, often more than once a day, the time machine fails with a variety of error messages: disk not available, not enough space on the disk, changed identity (what could that mean?), or just "failed".

It's WAY too much trouble for the price.

    Time Capsule disappointing

    • Written by from Waban

I purchased a new Airport Time Capsule, and it was relatively easy to set up. It completed a first backup on one computer. So far so good. The next day, I tried to set up a second computer for backup, but the backup disk could not be accessed. Got the message "internal drive needs repair". Having the backup disk crash after just one day of use is unsettling. I now have very little faith in this product as a backup option.

This rating is for the Apple Airport extreme

    • Written by from Lafayette

I decided to buy the Apple Airport extreme instead of the Time Capsule because I wanted to add my own high-quality hard drive.
2Tb Samsung's are awesome factory OEM not the newer drives which are actually manufactured by Seagate but branded under the Samsung name
I am happy with the performance of the AirPort Extreme. The router speed is good and the backup works very well with my Time Machine plus I can share data stored on the back up drive with my macs iPhone iPad (using GoodReader) and PC clients

    Frustrating

    • Written by from SILVERTON

So disappointed. Yes it works great as a backup storage. Yes it has great connectivity. Wanted both backup and to be able to move files over to as well. Could have bought another brand 2T wifi hard drive for less money that would allow me to back up AND store files. Why does apple make some things so difficult? Just like you cannot move photos to iCloud. People really want to save their photos in other places beside a flash drive and or on laptops.

    • Written by from GATINEAU

I love this router. My signal has become more stable and stronger. I now have access to my Wi-Fi everywhere in the house. The time capsule is working seamlessly and I couldn't be happier. Is it expensive? Yes however the payoff has been well worth it.

    Glorified Hard Drive

    • Written by from Edinburgh

I bought one last week was a hassle to setup, after resetting it about 5 times, powering router on and off and Macbook air as well as searching forums and emailing Apple... it finally worked. I really bought it to store masses of Films and music mostly bought from iTunes so that could stream them rather than relying on my Broadband and iCloud. However it cannot stream easily to Apple TV and every time I restart / power up iTunes changes the location of my library back to the defult it then asks do I want to reorganise etc.. and takes a further two of three minutes to update my library ... this is every time I restart or power up even though the device is constantly on. Kind of defeats the whole purpose I bought it for making it a glorified over priced hard drive.

Incredible, I don't get the bad reviews at all!

    • Written by from Troy

I was surprised to see so many people writing bad reviews about things as silly as not liking the packaging! I bought one anyway trusting apple like I have been for the last 10 years, and I have not been let down! My previous router was putting out 35-40mbs when I was supposed to be getting 100. After only 5 minutes of setting up (literally) I was running at 115 mbs right away. Other people have complained that it took hours for their backup...The setup manual specifically states that due to the very large amount of data being backed up during the first initial backup you should connect via ethernet. I was going to sleep anyways so I didn't bother, but for those of you who don't want to wait 6-8 hours for your first backup (mine was 1/2 a terabit) then you should plug it in. All backups since have only taken a few minutes and I don't even notice they are happening.

Great product! We have several in the family

    • Written by from Clifton Park

We have 3 time capsules and an airport extreme in the family. We are very pleased. They are easy to set up, the mac & iPhone interface is great, and it's a seamless backup solution. We use the usb port to share our printer on the network as well as occasionally archive our time capsule drive. Our oldest time capsule suffered a drive failure and replacing the drive was easy. The kids' time capsules are set up as network extenders at home and routers when they go away. We wouldn't hesitate to buy it again- great product.

    Perfect for Automated Backups

    • Written by from Beverly Hills

Few people back up their precious data, but with an Airport Time Capsule my Mac backs itself up wirelessly and automatically every hour. Once I set up the Time Machine software it's just set and forget. Worth every dollar. Would be more valuable with USB 3 (for external drives) and Solid State Drive. Would give it 5 starts with USB 3 and SSD.
