    Disappointed

    • Written by from Libby

Bought this cover for my iPad and while it protects the screen, the backside is totally unprotected. But the disappointment comes at the price. It is $39.00 for a thin cover with a magnet. I am willing to pay the higher prices for Apple's technology: my iMac, my 2 iPads, numerous iPods, my new mini iPad - and I sing their praises to anyone who listens -but the price on this cover is absolutely out of sight and way way too high.

At some point Apple needs to applaud those of us who continue to buy and praise their products with some perks, like these covers at a reasonable price.

    Decent but extremely overpriced

I purchased one and 2 days later, I took it back to the store. It's fine for most things but when using on a desk sometimes it would slide, plus I was able to find a gel case for the same price. $39 is to much IMO try $15 and lot less people would gripe

    Wonderful case

I just bought the case and I only have one worry, I am afraid of the magnets will lose power and drain the battery faster. But so far I have had no such problems. I love this cover. I would love to have a case like this!

Good enough for light use & protection

    • Written by from Spring Valley

Before I purchased this iPad Mini cover, I did some research so that I would know what I was getting myself into before buying this overpriced Smart Cover. This cover is flimsy , but it does what it's supposed to do—protect the screen from scratches.

The magnet holds on to the iPad if I were to just hold on to the cover and let my iPad hang, which is something the cover for the full-sized iPad can't do, either because it's not as strong of a magnet or because the iPad is heavier. Don't shake it around, though, because it will fall off. I don't think that should be a problem because should the iPad really be hung or swung like that? This cover also works as a stand, but not as well as the over for the full-sized iPad. You have to be a little careful so that the cover won't detach. I think the reason this happens is because the hinge between the magnet and the cover is made out of polyurethane and not metal like the full-sized iPad Smart Cover. This allows the magnet to be pulled in different directions that are not possible on the full-sized iPad Smart Cover. As a result, when the iPad Mini is covered, the Smart Cover tends to move around easily, which locks and unlocks the iPad repeatedly. I always turn off the Smart Cover lock/unlock feature whenever I carry my iPad Mini in a bag.

None of this is a problem for me because I am very careful with my things, especially with something like Apple electronics, which I believe are meant to be handled with caution due to the fact that they can be a little delicate. My only complaint is that the hinge is made out of polyurethane because I think that's what allows the Smart Cover to be so flimsy. Like I said, it does what it's supposed to do, in my opinion. This is not a cover meant to protect your iPad from real damage like drops. I don't believe that's ever been the purpose of the Smart Cover even when it came out for the full-sized iPad. If you exercise caution with your Apple products and all you want is light screen protection, then I don't think you should have an issue with this Smart Cover. Watch some reviews of the Smart Cover on YouTube to get a better idea of it.

    Expensive.. Yes. But good quality.

    • Written by from Marshall

I don't know if they have rev'd this... but as far as others saying it doesn't stick, the one I received sticks like crazy! I almost feel like I will tear it if I remove too many times by just pulling on it. I can slap this thing to front of fridge and it definitely isn't going anywhere! I still think, like most apple accessories, it's overpriced. But as far as fit/finish/build quality, it lives up to the standards I would expect. If this is the type of cover your are looking for, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Not a case - Not good value.

    • Written by from Glen Saint Mary

This cover is fine if you sit at a desk with your iPad placed on the desk. Should your iPad slip from your hands you may be left with the cover in your hand and your iPad laying on the floor with a broken screen. The magnets are very weak. As a stand it is OK but very flimsy. It's ok for watching video but if you have to touch the screen for anything you need to use your other hand to secure it.

    It's all good

    • Written by from Nottingham

I got the mini, but told the Apple employee I had read negative things about the smart cover. He let me try his in store, and it seemed fine. So I brought one home. It's fine here, too. I've folded it back, paperback style, and used it as a stand, and it works fine. It does have to be on a hard surface as a stand, as it's a little touchy, but no big deal for me. When you put it down, in sleep mode, the cover does lift slightly once you've folded it once, but only slightly. You wouldn't really notice it if you werent looking for it. All in all, it's convenient, easy to use, and works the way it should. It could be a little sturdier, but that would require added bulk, which would ruin the point of a thin cover for a thin iPad!

Terrible and doesn't justify the price paid for

This case is even worst then the one I got for my iPad 2. Doesn't even close properly. It seems like the cover is always going to open and magnetic force has worn out even before I start using it.

    Do Not Buy!

Overpriced, fairly useless, "stand" works marginally at best, looks cool, but does not cut the mustard even a little bit

    Justice needs to be made

    • Written by from Danbury

I am writing this review, because I think most of the comments here are not accurate. I got my ipad mini a couple weeks ago, and as I was looking for a cover, I read all the bad reviews on the apple smart cover. They almost made me walk away from this product. When I went to the store to pick up my ipad, I asked if they had an open cover so I could try it. They told me that they did not have any open ones, but if I bought one, and did not like it, I had until January to return it. So I decided to try it.
Well, IT WORKS GREAT! It does not move, slip, detach, etc. I have no idea what all the people complaining are doing with theirs, but I have had no issues with mine. Try it, it works very well.

    Just Buy It

    • Written by from Union City

I was a bit wary of buying this for my iPad mini because of other reviews stating it doesn't sit flat and that the middle always seems to bulge upward. Also reviews stating it is very loose and shifts/slides around on the screen, was something that concerned me. Being the kind of person that always has to try things for myself, I decided to buy it at the same time I picked up my iPad mini. Immediately after taking it out and snapping it on, it was a perfect fit in every way and it held in place very well too. For me, there are no issues with this what so ever. If I had to bicker about one thing; the price. It should be priced at $19.99 in my opinion. But it's Apple and I love Apple! Do you love Apple?

    Not a very good cover

    • Written by from Fairfield

I am not at all happy with this cover. As others have already said, it frequently pops off when folded back, and its connection to the iPad feels weak. I don't find it either holds up the iPad very well when in "movie viewing" position, or is very convenient when folded back on top. And Unfortunately I've probably had it just long enough to make it unreturnable. Well, live and learn. About the only thing it does consistently is turn off the iPad when it closes. Whatever convenience Apple might have hoped for with its feather-weight is lost with its seriously-compromised functionality. The iPad mini is a great tablet, it deserves a better cover from its parent company. Save your $$ and order another brand from Amazon. Most are a lot less, and sound much more practical. This is definitely one to leave on the shelf.

    NOT "dark" gray

    • Written by from Mission Viejo

Of the many things I've seen in life with the label 'dark', this should not have been one of them. Being generous I'd call this gray. My personal description would be light gray. (I don't know what you'd call the light one... Silver?) Anyway, I'm returning mine and unfortunately have to start looking outside Apple for a proper black cover. (Seriously Apple... Black! Given the iPad comes in white and BLACK... might be a good addition to the lineup. Perhaps leather? It's not like I'm trying to protect a $100 android tablet!)

    So far loving it

    • Written by from Manhattan

After reading the reviews I was hesitant to pick this up but I'm glad I didn't listen and decided to try it anyways. Maybe I was just lucky but it seems to work very well for me. The hinge attaches w/o issues-even tried to let it dangle by holding on to the Smart Cover and shook it a few times-it didn't detach, keeps my screen dust free and clean, holds my mini upright w/o it feeling "wobbly", and the cover seems to sit well over my screen w/o any lift in the center as some have mentioned. I'm even typing right now in the upright position and not having any issues w/ the cover sliding down.

    Overpriced

    • Written by from Henderson

I'm only giving it 3 stars because of the price and the hinge. It does work as advertised and I believe the bad reviews are from people who expect too much from this simple cover.

    It protects the screen
Makes the mini not so slippery
    Works as a stand
The magnets stays on sufficiently but don't expect the mini to hang on it unsupported

The hinge portion will probably rip eventually, we'll see
It does lift up a little in the center but I always set it down with the cover underneath so it doesn't bother me.

    useless

    • Written by from HUNTINGTON BEACH

I'm a huge Apple fan and hate to say anything negative about their products, but this cover is horrible. . the cover doesn't stay on well, and that is a huge deal for me because I carry this around in my purse and don't want it to get damaged. I reach in to my purse to get it and the cover has slipped off. NOT good.

    Works fine, with a quirk

    • Written by from Saint Petersburg

Not sure what others are talking about that this cover doesn't attach very well. Mine works perfectly and I can even dangle the mini from it and it doesn't come loose.

I only wish they hadn't done away with the metal hinge. This material is too flexible so the cover slides around a bit when it's folded back. My wife really hates that, but for me it's just a minor annoyance.

    Otherwise great product as usual!

Good protection. Hard to type with.

    • Written by from Dallas

First off, I like how the cover offers protection for the iPad's screen, and I like that it works well to prop up the iPad for watching videos. My problem with this case is that when I fold it back to type, it slides up and down against the back of the iPad, making it hard to hold properly in order to type. I was hoping that Apple would release a smart case instead of just a smart cover. The smart case I had on my iPad 2 was great. I was very disappointed that this case was NOT discounted on Black Friday, so I feel a little ripped off. I just wanted to make sure that I had some protection for my new iPad mini when I bought it. The smart cover is easy to remove, so that's how I deal with the typing issue, but we shouldn't have to do this. Someone at Apple should have tested this a bit more thoroughly, and they should have given this case the same fit and finish that they gave to the iPad.

I dont know what people are complaining about here. It works fine even when i fold it to make the ipad mini stand. i can type on it without much trouble, Except it can be shaky at times but why the ** would you want to type like that anyway. Get a proper keyboard..
