    Looks great on mini..but

    I had my mini ipad for less than a week. I dropped it and the cover did not do one thing to protect it. The screen cracked and I paid 219 to replace the mini ipad and this time bought the Apple Icare whitch the apple rep sold me for half price. I admit dropping it was my fault. I have had an iphone for many years and dropped it many times and the case I have protected it many times. The apple rep told me there is a time lag for cases for the mini due to it being so new. The case looks great but do not buy it.

    Several of these reviews seem based on misconceptions about what this cover is. It's not meant to provide shock protection. It's just a light weight cover to protect the screen from scratches and to serve as a stand. It does both of those jobs well. It is a little awkward when using the iPad. Mainly because the back of the iPad is smaller than the front, so the cover doesn't fit perfectly within the perimeter of the back. I like the cover and it provides the lightweight scratch protection I need. It attaches very firmly (perhaps they did make a change, because there is no way it could be accidentally disconnected like some reviews describe). Need scratch protection for the screen only and don't mind paying a little too mucho or the apple brand and convenience? Buy this. Want protection for the back, against impacts, or a good value? Look elsewhere.

    Avoid iPad mini smart covers....

    Having used the awesome Smart Cover for the first iPad I had to give these a try for iPad mini. I was mistaken to think this was somehow better or at least equal to the original...

    Pros: none.. I'm returning both smart covers I bought. They're junk...

    Cons: there's no good way to fold it behind the iPad. Instead of folding it in half like the original, the whole thing fits over the back but it doesn't latch magnetically on the right so it falls. Three creases means the folds are flimsy too and the hinge is no longer metal, rather fabric and its also flimsy.

    Save your money. Get something else.

    Does NOT Protect your Ipad

    This case looks and feels great, but does not protect your screen at all. I dropped it ONE time and the case fell off the second it hit the ground and scratched my screen all up. Do NOT buy this. With this cover you are essentially walking around with no protection at ALL.

    Looks cool, but lacks function

    Save your money and buy a 3rd-party case that protects the whole iPad. The Smart Cover doesn't even cover the back, sides or corners of the iPad. Not a very good product for the price point.

    Not worth $40

    I was disappointed when I received the cover for my daughter's mini iPad. I thought it would serve as protection for her new iPad mini. The cover doesn't stay on and offers little to no protection. Tried to return but was told it was not eligible for return.

    Doesn't work as a stand

    My husband bought me this cover for Christmas because I needed my iPad to stand freely when I use it for recipes. Although this is a nice screen cover it absolutely does NOT support my iPad. After being propped up my iPad instantly sides down onto the counter or table. It cannot support itself after I remove my hand from setting it upright. For the price this product should do what it advertises! The sleep feature is nice but that's about all this cover does. Extremely disappointed and wish I could return.

    Does what its supposed to, covers the glass. Does not really add any extra weight like some covers. The whole point of a Mini for me is to keep the weight light, this cover does that.

    Terribly overpriced for an inferior product

    I had the original ipad2 smart cover and that thing, although I initially thought was overpriced, turned out to be one of the best $50 I ever spent. The same cannot be said of the mini smart cover. Not only is it flimsy, it also doesn't sit flat ontop of the screen when closed on my mini. I actually had to exchange the smart cover and the second cover still did not sit flat on the screen. This is an inferior product to the original. Invest in a better case or sleeve instead.

    Not worth buying

    I recently bought this and it's not good. It covers only the front part! What about the back and sides? I love apple products but this flops. I rather check else where where I can get a complete cover for my mini. I can bet ill pay less for it!

    Kind of a let down

    I love the iPad 3 and 4 and would be using one if they weren't way too thick and heavy. Switching to an iPad mini, one of the bigger disappointments is the "smart" cover. It's much flimsier and less pleasant to touch, and the missing 4th joint definitely makes it move around when I type on it. The iPad actually rocks like an unstable piece of furniture when I type on a wood desk. There is no leather option either, so all we get is the cheaper feeling whatever this is made of.

    For what it's designed to be, I feel like this is perfect. No metal parts means no scuffing your ipad (had that happen with my ipad 2). It attaches easily, detaches easily, and is perfect for keeping your screen from getting scratched. This DOES NOT protect the back of the ipad, but the negative reviews citing this "problem" didn't do their homework first.

    Unlike other reviewers, mine lays perfectly flat on my screen when closed. It folds easily, and the magnets help to keep it folded. They also help keep it folded back behind the device. The material, to me, feels identical to that on the big ipad covers.

    I own three other cases that provide front and back protection, but this is the one I keep coming back to for daily use. Light, functional, sleek. It's certainly engineered by Apple. Just know what you're buying before you spend your money.

    This cover works just like the larger Smart Cover for the ipad 2. Some reviews criticize the magnets for being weaker than the larger cover but I've found this isn't true. If anything it's stronger and more accurate than the original. Also no flaws with the polyurethane hinge as opposed to the metal.

    I had a smart cover it disengaged from IPAD when placed on the counter and then hinge hit corner of IPAD and broke the glass., Even though I bought plan and it is still under warranty it is not covered. I feel there is a defect in the design of this cover. My options are to purchase another or send to apple to replace glass $249.00 not including shipping and handling. Not Happy

    Pricey and detaches too easily, cannot recommend

    My wife bought the Smart Cover along with the iPad Mini for my birthday. I LOVE the iPad Mini, and have been enjoying Apple products for many years. The Smart Cover is nice, but has so some major drawbacks. The magnet that attaches to edge of iPad is so weak that I almost dropped the iPad several times when the cover came off. Plus, you can a more protective case with a built-in magnetic cover and auto on/off feature for much less. Sad that I am going to return it.

    Pros:
    1) Fits great
    2) Looks great
    3) Lightweight
    4) Stays on really well when laid flat against the screen
    5) Auto on/off feature works great

    Cons:
    1) Detaches from the iPad too easily
    2) Pricey

    Let the Buyer Beware

    I bought this cover for my husband and my daughter (for their ipad mini's). Initially it was fine until I noticed that because it uses magnets to attach on to the side of the iPad, it does tend to slid around. I noticed on several occasions that it easily just separated from the iPad. I finally gave up and bought my daughter a more protective case on the thought that she would be the first to pick up the iPad and have it slip out of the cover and break on the floor. I wish I had bought one for my husband because he picked up his ipad from the counter this morning and the case slid off and the ipad went crashing to our tiled floor resulting in 6 cracks in the screen. When we took the ipad into the store they indicated that other people had experienced this problem as well. Unfortunately the purchase of this cover has cost us an additional $300 to replace it and buy the extended apple care plus protection. I would not recommend this product to anyone!!!!
