    It's ok

When I got the Smart Cover I was happy with it. When I dropped my ipad mini the cover got scratched and a piece of the cover got ripped. It protected my screen but I wish I had another cover.

    Kind of a let down

    • Written by from San Diego

I love the iPad 3 and 4 and would be using one if they weren't way too thick and heavy. Switching to an iPad mini, one of the bigger disappointments is the "smart" cover. It's much flimsier and less pleasant to touch, and the missing 4th joint definitely makes it move around when I type on it. The iPad actually rocks like an unstable piece of furniture when I type on a wood desk. There is no leather option either, so all we get is the cheaper feeling whatever this is made of.

    Just OK

The cover is OK, but it's not very sturdy as a stand, and it comes off too easily. I ended it up replacing it with a different cover.

    Disappointed

    • Written by from Libby

Bought this cover for my iPad and while it protects the screen, the backside is totally unprotected. But the disappointment comes at the price. It is $39.00 for a thin cover with a magnet. I am willing to pay the higher prices for Apple's technology: my iMac, my 2 iPads, numerous iPods, my new mini iPad - and I sing their praises to anyone who listens -but the price on this cover is absolutely out of sight and way way too high.

At some point Apple needs to applaud those of us who continue to buy and praise their products with some perks, like these covers at a reasonable price.

    NOT "dark" gray

    • Written by from Mission Viejo

Of the many things I've seen in life with the label 'dark', this should not have been one of them. Being generous I'd call this gray. My personal description would be light gray. (I don't know what you'd call the light one... Silver?) Anyway, I'm returning mine and unfortunately have to start looking outside Apple for a proper black cover. (Seriously Apple... Black! Given the iPad comes in white and BLACK... might be a good addition to the lineup. Perhaps leather? It's not like I'm trying to protect a $100 android tablet!)

    Overpriced

    • Written by from Henderson

I'm only giving it 3 stars because of the price and the hinge. It does work as advertised and I believe the bad reviews are from people who expect too much from this simple cover.

    It protects the screen
Makes the mini not so slippery
    Works as a stand
The magnets stays on sufficiently but don't expect the mini to hang on it unsupported

The hinge portion will probably rip eventually, we'll see
It does lift up a little in the center but I always set it down with the cover underneath so it doesn't bother me.

Good protection. Hard to type with.

    • Written by from Dallas

First off, I like how the cover offers protection for the iPad's screen, and I like that it works well to prop up the iPad for watching videos. My problem with this case is that when I fold it back to type, it slides up and down against the back of the iPad, making it hard to hold properly in order to type. I was hoping that Apple would release a smart case instead of just a smart cover. The smart case I had on my iPad 2 was great. I was very disappointed that this case was NOT discounted on Black Friday, so I feel a little ripped off. I just wanted to make sure that I had some protection for my new iPad mini when I bought it. The smart cover is easy to remove, so that's how I deal with the typing issue, but we shouldn't have to do this. Someone at Apple should have tested this a bit more thoroughly, and they should have given this case the same fit and finish that they gave to the iPad.

    Decent but not great

    • Written by from Hayward

I purchased the smart cover for the iPad mini. Its ok but lacks in protecting the whole iPad. no protection for the back of the mini. Another problem is that the cover easily comes off the iPad because it is attached via magnet to the iPad. It easily slips off which is a problem, esp when i am typing. Overall, decent but a whole body protector would be much better. I do like the auto on off feature tho.

    verified at Apple Store

The cover pops up in middle of the spine at closed position, leaving the iPad mini powered on & screen on. The gap is about 1/4 of an inch.

If you put the mini with cover in a bag, I believe a very high chance the screen will turn on automatically.

    Decent cover

    • Written by from Temple

Being an Apple product I expect to pay more so I'm not going to complain about the price. First, the good. The stand works well and I like the way the cover snaps shut with the magnets. The bad. I agree with the above complaint regarding the cover not sitting flat. This could have been solved if they would shaved about 1/16 of an inch off the cover. When you hold the ipad with the cover shut your hand presses against the slightly overhanging edges which causes it to push up some in the center. All in all it's a decent cover but I'm sure I'll be replacing it sometime in the future when they're more options.
