    disappointed

    • Written by from Rock Hill

I know several people who have full size iPads and the smart cover is awesome for it. However, I have this smart cover for my iPad Mini and the magnetic part of it is not very good. I dropped my iPad and the cover came off and caused it to crack my screen. I do not recommend this unless an improvement is made.

When it does sit up, it is not for very long. It is basically useless and I am now shopping around for a better option. I am completely disappointed!!!!!

I own an iPad 2 and loved the smart cover because of how it protected the iPad screen. I am the type of person where I do not like a lot of accessories, "less is more" type of guy.

So when I bought my iPad mini, I immediately bought the smart cover and it only took a couple of minutes for me to decide that is was a poorly design product. It was very light weight and when I laid the cover flat on the iPad mini, part of the cover stood up. There was no way to keep it down.

Luckily apple has a good return policy. I was just really disappointed because I wanted a smart cover but I ended up going to amazon and buying a leather case for my iPad mini for half the price.

    Dumb Cover you mean.....junk!

I would give it zero or negative stars if I could. This thing is a piece of junk, doesn't protect anything, you think apple could do a little better. A manilla folder works better.

I just picked up my brand new white ipad mini and thought i would get a smart cover at the same time.
It is the perfect partner for the ipad and works really great, the magnetics are very strong so it stays in place perfectly.
I would 100% recommend anyone who owns any of the ipad models get yourself one of these covers not only do they work fantastic BUT they also add some beautiful and simple apple style.

I like all the apple products but not the ipad mini smart cover. the first time I took out my ipad to take the pictures, ipad mini slippled from my hand and fell on the ground. The next min I found scraches all over becasue the magnets of the ipad mini smart cover did not hold ipad properly. I am not the person who breaks things easily. I am very careful person and this accident was terrible, lost the joy of using ipad mini.

Weak connection on hinge, poor stand

Like the title says, it has a weak magnetic connection to the mini, making it a very poor stand. It is a nice cover for the screen, but comes off far too easily

I liked this case on my iPad 2 and now on my mini. Only thing I noticed, that I tank others have seen as well, is that it doesn't always sit flat on the screen. It sort of bubbles up in the middle. Doesn't really matter much, but for $40, I'd kinda like it to be basically perfect. Other than that small flaw, it works great as a cover for the screen and stand.

I've read too much negative reviews on the mini Smart Cover so I originally went bought a Tucano Palmo shell case and then found it still bulky even though it is one of the slimmest in the market. I ended up purchased a SmartCover and I'm so happy with it. It's very thin and light and doesn't add to the weight and thickness of the iPad Mini. Contrast to others, I found the the magnetic hinge is strong. Here's my suggestion - buy this if you:

    1. Only need screen scratch protection. It's a cover so won't help if you drop your iPad.
    2. Like to keep the weight and size of your iPad to minimal.
    3. Don't plan to use the stand other than watching movies. When you set up as a stand, typing or touch wobbles. It's not too bad if you just reply to an email but could be annoying if you are writing long document.

*FIRST* ... I am not an Apple employee or enthusiast leaving a good review in a sea of bad reviews to boost rating averages, etc.

*SECOND* ... I almost let all of the bad reviews about this smart cover discourage me from buying one for my iPad mini. I figured I would buy it and see for myself. If I didn't like it, I am able to return it and get something else.

*THIRD* ... I am glad I made the purchase!

I loved using the leather Smart Cover on previous iPads, and knew I wanted one for the mini. I like minimal bulk and want to protect the screen and back. Since an iPad mini Smart Case is not available for the iPad mini, I opted for the Smart Cover and a Zagg Leather Skin for the back. The feel and weight of the Smart Cover is smooth and light. It aligns well when I put it on and it stays in place. The magnetic folding and enclosure holds well. Also, the magnetic hinge is strong enough to keep the cover in place.

If you are on the fence, buy one and keep in mind you can return if you don't like it.

I bought my iPad mini to make it easier to carry in my purse, but the smart cover I bought to go with it misses the mark entirely. It slips off and over and up and down with no staying power. This causes a drained battery and potential damage to the unit. Really, Apple? Can't you make a smart cover as good as the original one on my iPad2? Try again, please, and put some serious magnets in the spine.. Until then, I will be shopping after-market products for a solution.

Of course it's over-priced, but at least it doesn't protect the Ipad. I find it detaches from the Ipad too easily which has caused a few close calls (dropping) during the first weeks of owning this cover. It is slim, and adds very little to the dimensions of the Ipad, which is nice.

Bought two of these for ipad minis I bought and tested one out and nearly dropped my ipad several times! The magnetic attachment is not strong enough it easily slps out of your hand if you hold it while its folded. They should make the same case for the minis as they do with the regular ipad with the backing attachment and all. I had to return one of mine for another case that apple doesn't sell. Worst item design ever.

Dont buy this excuse for an ipad mini case, just go with a dodo or speck those guys are getting better. Got this with my ipad mini, doesnt stand very well, falls when in landscape mode a lot... i take it to class with me a lot of times and the case always tends to fall off. the magnet is very poor and is not like the Ipad smart cover. it doesnt even cover the back. Just buy something from a third party rather than this case.

I've used this poly Smart Cover, the leather Smart Cover, the smart case, the Griffen survivor, and the Otterbox, and this one is my favorite. It's convenient, minimal, and works perfect. I use it to protect my screen and prop my iPad up at a slight angle for taking notes in class with a stylus. Then I slip it in a TimBuk2 memory foam sleeve when I put it in my backpack to protect it. I've had it for almost a year and it still looks brand new, and it's very easy to clean. It's easy to snap off when you want to just hold the naked iPad when reading or web browsing, or you can just fold it behind the iPad.

I purchased an iPad Mini today and also picked up a Smart Cover as well as a Belkin back cover. I have a smart case on my iPad and wanted one for my Mini. Unfortunately, that option isn't available. So I went the route of a Smart Cover combo. I must say, I do love it. I have read a lot of complaints about them and was a bit skeptical. I guess some folks are expecting a titanium force stand. I have not had any issues similar to those I have read. I would highly recommend one to anyone that may read this. I am we'll pleased with mine at least.

This was a waste of my money. My iPad tips over constantly when I have it standing up to watch anything. Unfortunately the sales clerk failed to point out to me that I could have bought the full case for just 10 dollars more. I didn't realize that til yesterday, and it's far too late to exchange it. Maybe the case Is no goodeither. Who knows. I will shop the internet for something else that may be more reliable.

I don't like or need bulky cases or screen protectors for any of my Apple products. When I bought my mini iPad. I also bought the smart cover as minimal protection and a foldable stand. I't works great!
If your a butterfingers type person? This Smart Cover is not for you! But if your looking for something simple and clean in design? I highly recommend this.
