Reviews for iPad mini Smart Cover - (PRODUCT) RED

I wrote this because the 2 reviews I read were from people that didn't have one. I have a red one and just got the mini. It is for the screen and the fact that it turns off the ipad is pretty cool. There are limited cases out there right now. This is good.

I ordered this cover at the same time as my iPad Mini and had it shipped quickly. I have no personal experience with an iPad or smart cover prior to this purchase, but I can find no fault with this item.

To address some of the complaints of others (basing all on my experiences only):
-The color is a bright red, not quite the Crayola or primary red, but maybe a tiny bit orange? I think this is the same shade of red that most (PRODUCT)RED items are.

-There is not a single speck of lint on the cover or on the screen from the cover. It is a regular microfiber/microsuede material. Difficult to clean but totally fine for the iPad screen.

-The cover folds around back (like a binder or notebook cover) and sits flush with the back of the iPad, so you can fold it back and hold the whole unit easily. This does not appear to be putting any strain on the "not metal" hinge. The material is a bit rubbery, so I expect it to hold up to my moderate use. Of course, all things degrade and heavy use (or rough use) will break it down. This isn't meant to be an industrial strength cover!

-The hinge can only sit on the edge in one spot. I don't know how that person got it to slide or attach anywhere but perfectly centered. That would be a defect of the iPad internal magnets. If you try to lay it on off-center, the force of the magnet pushes it to center.

-The fold-into-a-little-stand feature is just fine. If you need a really sturdy stand, do not use something made of fabric and thin metal. Otherwise, it holds nicely with its own magnets in a little triangle resting stand (landscape/horizontal only, of course.)

-And after using the cover as a stand, it goes back perfectly flat onto the cover.

-The only true criticism is that the cover WILL get dirty if you use it as a stand on a dirty surface. But Apple can't change the laws of physics. At least not yet.

Pros:
-Does it's job pretty well, it is very magnetic so no worries about being detached on its own.
-stands pretty well unlike what other people said.
-cleans the screen pretty well.

Cons:
-Wish Apple made a smart case for the ipad mini as well.

I bought my cover when I got my iPad mini, close to it's release. It fits well and doesn't scratch or lift off the screen. I like how it easily comes off and goes on, so I can have the natural feel of the iPad. The red cover looks very good on my black iPad, and I would assume it would look good in the white one as well. The only problem I have is that it leaves two vertical lines on the screen where it doesn't touch, but that can easily be cleaned with a glass cleaning cloth. The only parts that it doesn't cover are made of a very strong material that is only affected by fingerprints, and not scratches. I love not having to use the sleep button, but just flipping it onto the front. This cover works really good as a stand either to stand it upright or with a slight incline. The iPad is quite strong and only needs a screen cover, for that reason I would strongly recommend this cover.

The Product Red smart cover for iPad Mini is great. I had an iPad 2 that I sold to get the Mini. I wanted a smaller screen so I preordered the mini. I was quite happy with the Mini but missed having a cover. I had a Belkin Trifolio leather case for my iPad 2, and wanted something a bit less bulky to compliment the extreme thinness of the Mini. The iPad Mini Smart Cover is the answer to that problem!

This cover is great and works well. The same $40 is a bit pricey, but I am ok with quality over quantity. I have not had any issues whatsoever putting the cover on and having it line up correctly. Then again, I have not taken it off much at all since I got it. I even went to the Apple store and asked to demo a iPad mini smart cover before I bought it. It worked just fine so I picked up the red one, which is a tad brighter than I would have liked, but its still amazing and I like the color more each day.

All in all, if you are having misgivings about the cover, go and try it out yourself and the Apple store before you pass judgement. If you don't like it, that's fine, but give it a try first in person. The experience made my purchase a no-brainer.

The magnetic strip does not stay in place, offering no protection to the device.

Surprisingly poor design by Apple. Returning the Smart Cover for a refund.

I love this vibrant lipstick red Smart Cover. I had a Smart Cover on my iPad 2 and this is much better. Since I like to match my iPad to my outfit, I have the red, pink, and dark gray Smart Covers. They work well, fit nicely, and keep the iPad thin and light. My only complaint is that when you fold it for a stand, especially in the low or flatter position, it comes unrolled and flops down flat. Other than that, it's a great addition to the mini. It looks smart, also. Two thumbs up!

I just went to Best Buy and got this case and I love it so much already, my screen is never smudged and I'm also supporting Product Red. Goes very well with my black iPad mini! Thanks Apple!
