Okay, I've had the original earbuds from apple since 2006 and although they weren't Bose quality they did the trick. I got these new ear pods with my iPhone 5 and agree that they are better. But NOT significantly better. Before I got them I was pretty excited because I was looking into purchasing Bose or Beats by Dre headphones. After reading the ratings I reconsidered because several people proclaimed the apple earpods were better. FALSE!
These things are an upgrade from the old version, but no where near the sound quality of premium earphones. I gave these a thorough test comparison with the old version and found them to be about a decibel louder and a tad bit clearer. This makes sense, because they are designed to channel sound down the ear canal.
If your previous earbuds are busted, I'd recommend these. If you're looking for good sound on a budget below $50, I'd definitely recommend these. If you like apple's products and want these to go with your iPod or iPhone as a style thing, I'd also recommend these. HOWEVER, if you're looking for premium sound quality, DON'T let other reviews or ratings fool you. I would never recommend these over Bose or Beats by Dre products.

    Not for working out!

The title says it all,the sound is nice but the fall out over and over, drives me crazy to have to continue to put them back in my ears, went to apple and bought a new pair that cost around 79.99. I think they planned it this way.So save your money and opt for the more expensive ones.

Sound great but still fall out...

I really wanted these earpods to be the perfect set of in-ear headphones but I'm the .00001% that these were not designed for. They still become dislodged by me simply tilting my head up and down. Walking my dogs, i find myself constantly resetting them so they don't fall out. So anything more than walking is completely out. It'll be winter again soon so I can at least keep them in place with a knit hat.
All that being said they really do sound much better than the first iterations. They are also much more comfortable to wear. But fallings out as easy as they do is a huge problem for me. I'll have to fork out the big bucks and get some Shure or Sennheiser buds to make sure they stay put.

Good but not great like apple products should be.

Great sound, still falls out of my ear

The sound is excellent. The earpods fall out of my ear just as often as the old headphones did. They are more comfortable when they're in your ear though. If they find a way to make them stay in your ear they get 5 stars!

    good sound, bad fit

The sound is amazing, however they are a little large for my ears so they don't sit well. If there is the slightest tug on the cord they go flying out. I wish they made ones with rubber on them so they stayed better.

Sounds great, but bad mic/controls position

    • Written by from Santa Ana

10 of 14 people found this useful

I haven't seen anyone mention this, but the position of the microphone is higher than on the previous earphones. It is positioned in such a way that the collar of my shirt is constantly hitting the mic, so the person I'm talking to is constantly asking me what the ruffling noise is. If the mic was a bit lower (back to it's original position), these earbuds would be great.

The right earbud does seem to fall out when I use the controls to skip to next song. Again, this is because the controls are too close to the right earpiece, so grabbing the controls tends to move the earpiece out of place.

Sound quality is much better than the previous ones.

I don't get how this can be... I feel like my ears are a pretty normal shape, but I can't walk 10 feet without one or both falling out. My best guess is that they're too light?

These things hurt my ears!! Painfully awesome quality,

These are the best earbuds I have had in awhile. Only thing that blows is if I try to get them in securely they start hurting. It goes aways...sometimes but that's the ONLY kink about them. I love the quality and I love the little button-microphone-pause-volume-button thing!!!! If you hold it long enough you get SIRI!! how cool is that?

Roll out some little fuzzy ear covers and I'll bump it up to 5 stars Apple.

Great sound but a bit painful to wear

    • Written by from Stamford

I had to give these 3 stars, because the sound is phenomenal, but they're incredibly painful to wear. I much prefer the fit of the more expensive, but infinitely more adjustable earbuds that Apple also sells in their line. My hope is that the designers incorporate some of the best elements of the EarPods into the next generation of earbuds. I guess I have tiny ears, because when I wear these for more than a few minutes I get a shooting pain in the area just above where the EarPods sit in each ear. I had the same problem with the previous generation. Still, the sound is superior to most earbuds I've tried and I've tried several different brands in the past few years. I just wish they were made of a little more pliable material.

    nice but too big

I really like the new ear piece, very innovative and I really like the volume up down and pause. It is more solid the the old version but the only caveat is---WAY TOO BIG for small eardrum. Hope on next release it will be smaller and I will definitely be a buyer of the small version.

    Too big

I got these with my iPhone 5 and just had to try them out. To my surprise, they sounded amazing. The only problem is that they are just too big for my ears. I understand apple designed them to fit the general population but if they would just make a pair a little smaller for my ears, I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

Sound great, but really hurt my ears

    • Written by from Lexington

12 of 16 people found this useful

The sound quality of the earpods is greatly improved over the old Apple earbuds, but make sure you try them in your ear first, because if you have ears like mine, they might seriously hurt to wear for anything over a minute. I can usually find a somewhat comfortable position for them , but then any slight movement in the earpod at all causes pain in my ear. I am one of the few people for whom the old apple earbud shape was very comfortable, so as much as I love the improved audio quality in these earpods, I am forced to go back to the old. If you have ears that perfectly fit the old earbuds, make sure you try out the earpods first before buying because they might be very uncomfortable for you.

I don't feel these new EarPods are much improvement over the old. Sound seems to be ok, however still aren't very fitting and come out easily when doing anything active.

    Just Great Sound

I haven't used earphones for a while since owning beats, souls, and vmoda's headphones.

First impression...Sound is right up there with my ludacris souls sl150 (best of the bunch). Bass was present which i didn't expect much of it from these tiny earphones. Crystal clear highs w/ no distortion and well balanced with the mids. Apple got it right with the sound. I'm truly impressed.

Fitment... Now here is where it gets tricky. i had to play with the left/right just to get it to fit properly without falling off and getting the right amount of sound in my ear. sometimes one side is louder than the other side...thats because of positioning.

I wouldn't recommend it for doing any sort of strenuous activities as they tend to fall off easily. Brisk walks to the park, sitting at home, or just listening to music at work will be ok. But if you plan to use these for any sort of workouts...Forget about it. I'm not sure if they are sweatproof too.

They sound great, and they are initial more comfortable than the previous ear pods, but after a while they make my ears very sore. I by no means have small ears; When I use the marshmallow earbuds I use the big foam insert. They also still have the tendency to fall out making them difficult to wear while jogging.

Great sound, doesn't stay in ears

    • Written by from Nashville

I only gave it 3 stars because the sound is amazing, but these new pods do not stay in my ears and I've only wore them sitting down. I can't even imagine trying to walk around much less run with them. I agree with some other reviews. If there was some type of silicone to keep the sleek plastic from sliding out of my ear, these new pods would be 5 star worthy...

Better sound, but not comfort in MY ears

    • Written by from NASHVILLE

I have heard nothing but good things about the EarPods and after having my iPhone a week I finally busted them out to try them. The sound is noticeably better from the first couple notes, no argument there. But even though initial comfort is better than the old ear buds after 20 minutes I found my ear aching much like the older ear buds. I know nothing fits everyone but if you are thinking of buying these for your primary set of earphones I would suggest something with a silicone cap that seals into your ear without any ear to plastic contact because comfort is a close second to sound when purchasing earphones. As far as a included set for a phone they are great, but not worth purchasing as a replacement for existing earbuds. A step in the right direction Apple but would it kill you to add a little silicone for comfort?!
