    Design doesn't work for everyone

    • Written by from New York

I was excited to see Apple upgrading the old earbuds. Unfortunately, the new design does not work for everyone. These fall out of my ear easier than any headphones I've ever used. Walking, talking, turning my head, eating an apple.... any of these actions will cause one or both of the buds to fall out. It's incredibly frustrating and has made these unusable for me.

The sound may be marginally better than the previous earbuds (emphasis on marginally), but these are still a long way from being premium headphones. If you buy an iPhone 5/iPod and receive them as an accessory, try them out and hopefully they'll work for you. Otherwise, I can't recommend buying these based on the design or sound quality.

    Won't stay in the ear

    • Written by from honolulu

So I read the reviews and it "looked" like Apple did research to optimize the fit of these new earphones. Well NO earbuds ever fit in my ear so when I got these I thought I would give Apple the benefit of their research.

FYI - this is not a review of sound quality...that is great

So first day I thought they were really good. But they just seemed to sit on my ear. Almost so loose that I could hear everything around me like I didn't have earphones in. Within the first five minutes the suckers were falling out and would not stay in. Mind you this is sitting at a desk not even moving around. Tried pushing them in for a tight fit and it did not help. Nothing I do will keep them in my ear so these are useless to me.

So I'm rating this a 2 since I know my ears don't fit any earbud type headphones except for the Koss isparks. I would have rated it a 1 except for the fact that I think half of it is my problem.

    My ear pods doesn't ears!

    • Written by from Edmonton

Ok for the love of God when will Apple make earphones (EarPods) that actually stay in your ears! I mean really, come on!

I was hopeful and the sound is amazing, they look very cool, but then I took two steps forward and yep you guessed it, they fall out! I bicycle everywhere and like to listen to music while I ride (on low volume, so don't freak) , but if they fall out all the time that will be annoying!

My advice is that if you are mostly going to sit and listen to music these earphones (EarPods) are a very good value for your money, but if you like to walk more than one step at a time, don't bother you will be putting them back in your ears so much that it will take to an hour just to walk to the end of the block.

    no surprises here.

These would be great headphones if they did not literally fall out of my ears the moment I touch the remote control in the slightest.

I look forward to the day when Apple actually designs headphones for actual human ears.

Not very practical as it claims

    • Written by from Bangalore

Though the sound quality is impressive, having no noise cancellation makes it pretty useless in a crowded environment or even when at home with the background noise (eg- TV). The background noise even though small can be extremely distracting. You tend to push hard each piece inside your ear. It only hurts your ears but you just cant get rid of the noise.

The ergonomic design as marketed by Apple is not that great since the earpods fall off pretty easily.

"Designed to direct the sound into the ear" and all that stuff would work great only if the earpods fit snugly in each ear and if you're able to enjoy the music without outside noise. Its 'okay' if you got the earpods bundled with the iPhone but certainly not worth buying them separately. I regret buying them.

Giving 2 stars only for the sound quality which unfortunately you can enjoy only in a calm environment.

    Good idea; bad execution

    • Written by from Herriman

I am a long-time fan of Apple products and innovation but I think that this change from the earbuds isn't quite complete. They sound great and fit into my ear great but they don't stay there. They need some element of rubber like the earbuds had so that they will stay in place in your ear. There is nothing more annoying to me than having to continue to adjust and re-adjust the position of the earpods so that they don't feel like they are going to fall out or so that I don't hear all of the noise around me.

Fantastic sound but very poor fitting

    • Written by from Burnaby

I love apple products, but these ear pods are not very conducive to non-normal ears. They keep on falling out of my ears as I have marginally larger ear canal than average and have always needed those foam paddies to keep earbuds in my ears.

The design of these don't allow foamies to be used and the glossy smooth surface makes it impossible for me to practically use them. I had to use some double-sided tape to hold some foamies in place to effectively use them before I could find out the audio quality is quite nice.

Unfortunately, unless they make some spacer bands to help folks without the apple-ideal ear, I'm sticking with the in-ears.

    iPhone 5 Earpods

    • Written by from Sacramento

I got these earphones with my iPhone 5 so I thought I would give them a try. In the past I have been using the Belkin Mic attachment so I could use the headphones of my choice, but lots of extra wires that way. I have spent a month with the Apple headphones and they are very convenient and they stay in my ears when I use the little clip to cinch up the extra headphone wire. That little cinch clip thing is the only thing that keeps the earpods in my ears when I am out exercising. The sound quality is fine.

My two complaints of these earpods are that they are not "ear plug" style so there is a lot of ambient noise, which is a personal preference, and the sticky rubber they used to produce these head phones has been the cause of multiple phone drops. Luckily, I was using these with my iPhone 4 so there wasn't much damage. The back of the iPhone 5 would have been a scratched up mess by now. I move, the rubber clings and catches on everything from clothes to my desk at work, and the phone goes flying.

I'm going back to my other headphones.

    Major issue with calls

    • Written by from Sudbury

These earpods work fine for music playback but are terrible for phone calls. They keep cutting out as if the noise canceling is working too much. This happened on 2 sets so I just started using the older earbuds and they work fine. If you get these free with your phone that's fine but don't waste your money buying these separately.

Good sound, useless for active listening

    • Written by from Loveland

I got these with my iPhone 5 and I was looking forward to trying them out. They are infinitely better than the earphones that came with all the other Apple mobile devices I've had in the past, but that is a pretty low bar. The old ones didn't fit, felt like sticking a large fava bean in your ear, and they fell out with the slightest twitch of your head. The new ones solved problems 1 & 2, but they still do NOT stay in your ears while you are walking, running... heck, they don't stay in if you are chewing! I bought a pair of cheap Sony plugs with soft rubber cups that have a remote mike and controls that I use when I'm hiking/running that work great and have adequate sound quality. Why can't Apple make something similar with better sound quality?

    Still Disappointed

    • Written by from Phila

Two guys at the apple store talked me into these earbuds. While I found the sound quality to be a vast improvement over the previous ones, they are still made of hard plastic that are both uncomfortable and do NOT stay in your ears. Even when they do they feel like they're about to fall out. Apple does everything else so well, why do they still struggle with earphones?

I got these with my iPhone 5 and they are just too Loose in my ears. I don't feel I have huge ear canals or anything but these just don't fit right. I with they came with some kind of adapter wraps for different ear sizes.

Good sound -- but EarPods fall out when walking

    • Written by from THORNHILL

I was pleasantly surprised by the sound of the EarPods, which are a big improvement over earlier versions of Apple's earphones. Highs, mids and lows are clear, and offer a balanced listening experience. The mic and controls work well with my iPhone 4 and are easy to use.

Unfortunately, good sound is only half of what I need in a pair of earphones. The other half is, of course, good fit -- and these absolutely don't for me. While I'm walking, the EarPods dislodge and simply fall out my ears. No matter how I try to angle them or position them deeper, they still work their way out fast, making these useless for me.

Despite Apple's testing to try and make EarPods a universal fit for everyone, this is obviously impossible. Overall, a very disappointing purchase, which I'm going to return as soon as possible. Not recommended.

    Great Sound Poor Comfort

    • Written by from Holladay

I love the sound of the Earpods but...and a HIGE but, they are so miserably uncomfortable I can not stand to use them. They are way to big for my ears. I know each person has unique ears, mine happen to be small and I therefore can not use these earpods which is a shame because they have great sound. The old earbuds fit perfectly in my ear but lacked sound...now it is the opposite. If you have large ears you will love these but if you have small ears like mine you will hate them. It would be awesome if Apple came out with different size options :(

    Sounds great but....

    • Written by from IRVINE

Who was in charge of "fit"??? I've had several different type of ear bud style headphones from all the original Apple earbuds to Sennheisers & Bose & these fit THEE worst out of all tof them. They sound great but they "jiggle" out of the ear just by wallking around the office so i'd had to see how they are if you're trying to run.
