    Laggy video output

    • Written by from San Francisco

Both the HDMI and VGA lightning video adapters introduce lag to video output that wasn't present with the 30 pin adapters. Because of this my old iPad3 is better for running VJAY (audio-visual performance app) than a brand new iPad Air 2. Disappointed that Apple, a company that used to be the standard for creative types, is pushing a standard like lightning adapters that can't perform well enough for artistic applications.

    Don't mind the bed reviews

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I just bought one, came home plugged it to my iPad Mini w/ Retina (iOS 7.1.1) and everything worked flawlessly. Image is sharp, audio is nice, when you play a video it becomes full screen. Just as you'd expect it. Very little lag. Also it is 1080p, so don't mind people saying it is 720...

    DO NOT BUY

    • Written by from Wyoming

It's a weste of money, I used it only five times and it stopped working. I took it back because I thought it was a malfunctioning product . Came home and tried to use the new one and same things. Apple should refund for selling such an expensive product and does not work.

Works Well Depending On Your Apple Device

    • Written by from Eastvale

While I agree that it is slightly overpriced (most Apple accessories are) it works extremely well depending on your Apple device. I highly recommend clicking on the device you have on the bottom of Lightning Digital AV Adapter main store page and look at the video output in the tech specs section before purchasing. What you see there is the max you'll get. The iPhone 5s, 5c, and the iPad Air all say "Video mirroring and video out support: Up to 1080p through Lightning Digital AV Adapter and Lightning to VGA Adapter (adapters sold separately)"
It's a must for streaming online video to a TV as trying to alternatively "double stream" from the internet to an Apple TV usually has great lag. I've had no problems on these devices and the quality has been great! If your TV or upscales it's even better.

Airplay Audio broken by iOS 7?

    • Written by from Abergavenny

A quick search of the Apple forums will lead you to conclude that iOS 7 has stopped this accessory from functioning as expected. Previously (and also with the 30 pin connector) it was of course possible to plug HDMI in for video and stream audio to an Airplay speaker. You'd have the "Content is playing on the TV" blank screen on your device, your moving image up on the screen, and the audio coming out of your Airplay speakers.

Now, however, I find that when you try this, the video freezes on the projected screen, and will play only on the device itself (while the audio plays out of the Airplay speaker).

Alternatively, you can watch your video up on the screen… but in complete silence! Way to go, Apple!

    Disappointed

    • Written by from Derby

I bought this so I could watch BT sport from my iPad on to my TV. Unfortunately it mirrors a picture that is only half the size of the TV screen i.e.picture in the centre of the TV. At a cost of £40 I want more than that. Plan to take back and get a refund.

    Works Well

    • Written by from Los Angeles

This adapter works very well, it does mirror what's on the screen of my 5s as well as my iPad Air. I think it's a bit overpriced, but an alright item. I think for the price, an HDMI cord, and / or an AC adapter should be included in the current price.

    Nothing HDMI about it!

    • Written by from Cartersville

This is the shoddiest excuse of an HDMI adapter I have ever seen. While it may transfer audio or video via an HDMI, what you get on your screen is not worthy to be defined as High Definition. Do not waste your money on this product.

Just what I was looking for

    • Written by from Middlefield

This little adapter is just what I needed. I was looking for something that could mirror my iPod Touch 5 onto a flatscreen TV via HDMI port, yet something portable that didn't require Wi-Fi. Now I just purchased mine, but so far, so good. I like the fact that there is a lightning port so I can keep my iPod fully charged while on the big screen. However, I do agree that this adapter is overpriced because it does not come with an HDMI cable. I am currently using a 4-foot HDMI cable that I had lying around for quite awhile.

Excellent video output quality from iPhone 5s to HDMI. Super easy to use. A brilliant addition if you travel frequently since you can load up your phone with videos and then playback in HD quality on any HD capable TV.

Works Well With iPhone 6 Plus

    • Written by from COTTAGE GROVE

Saw an article in Yahoo about this adapter, bought one and tried it out on my mother-in-law's 60" Samsung TV. A little pricey ($49 + tax) but worked great. Was nice for iTunes, photos & videos with sound. Her eyesight isn't very good (she's 94) so this was much better than when we would show her stuff on an iPad. Will be getting these for my kids for Xmas as they have iPhones and iPads.

Got it home, used it to connect my iPhone 5s to my Vizio TV and (especially for you one-star reviewers) watched:

Beats by Dre x Colin Kaepernick: Hear What You Want Commercial (couldn't use the URL)

Clear picture and sound, great enough for my eldest daughter to come from the back of the house to request I turn it down. :)

Horrible, Terrible, Pointless, Waste of Money.

    • Written by from Rossland

I was reasonably excited when I saw this product available, but wasn't quite sure about the price. So far most VGA-USB cables or similar adapters will all run around the $35-60 range. I bought this expecting to be able to play games and watch movies on my larger screen, without having to use a console to do so.

This cable is finicky. Not all TV's support the adapter.

After plugging this adapter into my three TV's, working on NONE of them (only showing a purple screen, the TV's are no older than 4 years) I finally went to my neighbors and tried on their two TV's. This adapter worked on one Samsung 55" HD TV, but only after plugging it in/unplugging it several times, restarting the phone twice and turning the TV on/off. Even then if the phone changed angles AT ALL, the signal would cut out and not come back.

Either I received a dud, or we all have. I'm furious right now, as this is not the first product I've bought through Apple that was overpriced and DID NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED OR EXPECTED. I wasn't able to play iPhone games on my large TV, watch movies or browse the web.

I have bought several "duds" over the past five years, including two Classic iPods, two iPhones and now this adapter. I am now seriously considering leaving all Apple products behind and investing in other companies.

    Wow! Just the ticket!

    • Written by from Berthoud

I have long been looking for a way (not too expensive) to broadcast what was on my iPod Touch 5th gen. to a t.v. Tried Chromecast which worked but did not mirror everything on my iPod. Then, I discovered this little product. Plugged it into my iPod and my HDMI socket on my TV. It work very well indeed. The movie quality (mp4) and sound quality was everything I wanted it to be.

Mirrors whatever is on my iPod. I am very well pleased indeed. Thank you Apple!
