    No Hi-Def mirroring

    • Written by from MIAMI

I was hoping that by some miracle it would mirror at least at 720p but the image is 4:3 all the time except when playing from the video app which will show whatever the resolution is and max out at 1080p. Using this to mirror anything else is a waste of time because the picture looks cropped. Fix it Apple!!!!!!! Haven't you wasted enough of your customer's time and money with false advertising????

    Doesn't work with iPad Air

    • Written by from Panama City Beach

The cable does not work with the iPad Air. I bought it to work with my DISH Hopper via Dishanywhere when traveling.
Sound connects, but there is no video. I tried via a receiver and directly to two HD HDMI equipped TV's. The same result
I also tried several input signal and still no video.
iPad by itself connects without a ptoblem to Dishanywhere.

That makes Apple 2 for 2 for expensive junk.
I also bought a lightning SDHC card reader. It also failed to perform as described.

Product works perfectly...other's who have complained may be using older ipads or discount hdmi cables. read one of the other reviewers who summarizes the entire setup....just installed both the lightening cable and rocketfish hdmi (9 ft cable) and picture from Netflix is HD and perfect.

    Works fine for me.

I have an iPhone 5s with Sony Bravia and it looks awesome in 1080p. It does mirror, until I play a video. Don't know if it works differently with other models between iPhones and tv's, but it might be the case.
I never give a 5 star on anything unless, it does the dishes, takes out the trash or does the laundry for me.

    Works fine a first

I purchased this to use to connect to my projector in my classroom. It worked great for about 3 months than all of sudden it stopped working entirely. Supposedly this has to do with the ios update? Now I am unable to use my iphone or my ipad with my projector in my classroom. Thanks a lot apple.

Would not recommnd for traveling + way overpriced

    • Written by from Vancouver

Using on my iPad Mini (1st gen), Vizio HD TV.

    Pros --
    - when it works, it looks great on the TV; total mirroring and decent resolution
    - audio through the HDMI, full screen video really is full screen
    - is small and very portable for traveling

    Cons --
    - PRICE. US$49 is ridiculous, AND you have to buy the HDMI cable on top of that. I get that Apple is trying to encourage people to use Apple TV instead but it's just not practical for people who want to use this adapter for travel and portability
    - connecting the adapter and HDMI to the TV and iPad are finicky -- it didn't recognize the device when I turned my TV to the HDMI channel and then connected. Have to either turn off the TV or change to a different channel, THEN connect the iPad, THEN turn to the HDMI channel
    - biggest con for those who are using this for travel -- many hotels control the TV functions (i.e. menu, access to channels and component/input options, etc.) -- I tried using this adapter at two different hotels and both times, they wouldn't recognize the iPad as being connected. So this may be hit or miss (but mostly miss for me)

    Excellent if pricey

    • Written by from Vancouver

Excellent video output quality from iPhone 5s to HDMI. Super easy to use. A brilliant addition if you travel frequently since you can load up your phone with videos and then playback in HD quality on any HD capable TV.

It's value, not price, making this iDevice accessory a must!

    • Written by from Burnaby

By using the Digital AV Adapter with our new iPad Air, my wife was convinced of its value AND usefulness when she was able to almost effortlessly connect it to the HDTV and watch daily Hong Kong soap operas not yet available for another year on Canadian cable TV.

I cheekily only gave this 4 out of 5 stars because now I have to buy an iPad Mini with Retina Display for her so I can get the iPad Air back for my use... ;)

    Simple yet sophisticated

    • Written by from Pasadena

I'm not sure why some users are having difficulties ... as soon as I connected the adaptor, I was able to watch home videos, view photos, and best of all, watch movies. The image quality is perfect on the movies as is the audio quality.

Apple is awesome! Such a small little adaptor ... with such great possibilities!

Used in movie theater and was great!

    • Written by from Sandy Hook

We purchased this to stream a movie from the iPhone 5 onto a movie screen in a local theater for a birthday party. It worked great! The picture and sound were amazing, and you would have never known it was coming from an iPhone. Would highly recommend.

Not sure why so many have an issue with this. Yes, it's extremely overpriced but it works fine. I use it at least once a week to watch movies on my 50" plasma with no issues whatsoever. I've used with both my iPhone and my iPad.

    Product works as advertised

    • Written by from Midlothian

I had read reviews of this and another cable of people claiming it did not fit even with the Apple case. Rather than order online I drove to the Apple store and asked them if I could test it there on the spot. Of course, they were offended at the idea that Apple would not make it compatible with their own case I as have on my iPhone 5s and iPad air.

In short, it fit perfectly. I brought it home and it works perfectly on my HDTV.

Do I wish the price were a bit cheaper? Sure, just like everything else I own with the Apple logo, so get over it. It's supply and demand. As more third party knock offs are made, perhaps you can take your chance with their junk. For now, I and others will pay the price and it works.

    Awesome!

    • Written by from Knoxville

I do not understand the comments about this product not working? I also do not understand how people can purchase this product without reading the tech specs about it, and then coming on here and complaining about things that it won't do or why it's incompatible with their equipment, etc… when all they have to do is take a minute and read the tech specs. All the answers are there and they would save time and money to find out whether it would work or not with their current setup. This thing is awesome and has saved us from having to purchase another external device to play movies, TV shows, etc… since it produces HD quality for such things!
Just do the research and enjoy, and/or save! Great product Apple…As usual!

Airplay Audio broken by iOS 7?

    • Written by from Abergavenny

A quick search of the Apple forums will lead you to conclude that iOS 7 has stopped this accessory from functioning as expected. Previously (and also with the 30 pin connector) it was of course possible to plug HDMI in for video and stream audio to an Airplay speaker. You'd have the "Content is playing on the TV" blank screen on your device, your moving image up on the screen, and the audio coming out of your Airplay speakers.

Now, however, I find that when you try this, the video freezes on the projected screen, and will play only on the device itself (while the audio plays out of the Airplay speaker).

Alternatively, you can watch your video up on the screen… but in complete silence! Way to go, Apple!
