    Fails, what good is this?

    • Written by from Palmer

I tried to plug into my iPhone 5 and get a messages box that this device is not supported. When I plugged into my iPad Air I get the same message. Attempting to use it all the same verifies that at least the message box works. The cable is useless. I have no idea what its good for but it is not any good for me and my devices.

Back to the store for a refund. Odd, I always had such confidence in Apple products working together

    Product that should be recalled

    • Written by from Chevy Chase

I regret to report, but I must concur with negative ratings for this product. I have iPhone 5s, and got the message that this cable is not a recognized product.

After reading all the negative reviews, I am surprised that this product is still available for sale and not recalled. Apple Geniuses were baffled at both stores I went to, and were unable to provide any explanation or fix for this problem. I have several older devices that I would like to use the adapter for, but at this time I guess it's not very likely.

    Complete Garbage

    • Written by from APO

So, this thing shows up in the mail today in the same box as my 5S and I plug it in and get the message that this accessory is not compatible. That message comes up even with nothing plugged in to the dock. How does that make sense? I thought this cord was made for this phone. Im pretty sure that I bought this adapter because it was suggested at checkout. You better fix this Apple. Your reviews are looking bad for this one.

Will not connect to my car stereo

    • Written by from RIVERSIDE

I bought this cable to use in my Infiniti G37. I have the 30 pin connector that I used with my iPhone 4S which worked great, so I bought this adapter when I upgraded to the 5s. It will not connect with my stereo at all, I get an error message that says, ipod not connected!!!! Unforntunately, there is no other connection options in the Infinit except to buy an FM transmitter.

Does not work with iPhone 5s

    • Written by from Portland

Tried multiple 30-pin cables and the adapter would always bring up the "cable not supported message" - this it totally bogus. Apple should not list the iPhone 5s as compatible with this adapter.

TOO SHORT! 0.2 meter? A 1.0 meter option would be nice!

    • Written by from Waikoloa

I own a Beats By Dre Beatbox. I need a 30 pin adapter cord that I can plug into the 30 pin plug from the Beatbox then go to a lightning plug so I can charge and use the phone while its plugged in. All apple offers is a cord length of 0.2 meters which is 7.8 inches. That is way too short, and worthless! Come on Apple, please offer a longer cord besides this stub sized cord. A 1.0 meter would be nice!!!

    Lightning adaptor for iPhone 5

    • Written by from Dalton

It works for all my needs. It will Charge and play music on both my boom boxes. It is thicker than the original 30 pin plug but fortunately my cases and other devices will Accommodate the size. It is way overpriced therefore I only gave it a four star

not supported on my iPhone 5s

    • Written by from Sioux Falls

If you buy it, make sure you test it right away. I bought this from Apple online to make sure I got an original. I get an error that it is not supported on this device. I tried it after the return period (bought a month ago), so now I'm stuck with a $40 cable that doesn't work, and I still need an adapter.

Works well but doesn't fit well

    • Written by from WINSTON SALEM

This cable had done all I have asked it to do so far, except fit into my iPhone with a case on.

My case (made by Switcheasy, awesome case!) has a hole cut out for the Lightning port. I think many cases have this feature. The cable that shipped with the iPhone fits perfectly. On this cable, the lightning end is MUCH thicker than the original cable and will not fit with my case. I had to remove some of the plastic around the lightning end to even get to close to it fitting.

Why is this end so much thicker? I can't see any reason for it. So if you have a case that has a small cutout for the lightning port, beware of this cable.

New iPhone 5s does not support this accessory

    • Written by from Kinderhook

I purchased a new iPhone 5s today and also purchased this cable so I could charge the new iPhone with the cables from my iPhone 4. It does not work at all and only produces a message that "Device does not support this accessory. I connected it to my MacBook Pro with a 30 pin USB cable that I purchased only a few weeks ago at an Apple Store and the MacBook did not recognize that anything was connected to it. Unclear is the problem is the cable or the iPhone. Running iOS7.04.

    Does not support video

    • Written by from royal oak

Pricey and does not support video. I understand Apple is working on one that does, but I'm afraid to hear the price on that one, let alone the wait for its arrival.

    Does the job...but

    • Written by from Benicia

Great idea from Apple, but it does not seem like much thought was put into it's development. The problem is that .2 meters (7.87 inches) is just not long enough. My iPod is connected via this adapter to a male 30 pin that stands maybe 3 inches tall. Picture this, the cord goes straight up and loops back down (due to how short it is). Because of this, the iPod will not even lay flat on my desk. When I attempt to lay it flat, the 30 pin tends to lift up, breaking the connection. I feel sorry for the people needing to plug their iPod into something taller. Make the cables at least 1' or 2' as these lengths are much easier to work with.

    Meets My Needs

Works great for my needs. In my car I'm able to change songs on my iphone through the steering wheel & it charges as well. On my Bose sound dock I'm able to change songs with the remote. Only downside is the price & I'm thinking I need another one to keep in my car.

    iphone adapter for Audi A5

    • Written by from broomall

I have an Audi a5 without Navigation. I used a Ipod/Iphone cable with the "Blue" Grommet. This new adapter allows my IPhone to connect seamlessly, with the added benefit that I can now stream Pandora and the AUDI MMI system recognizes the songs. With previous IPhones the audio system would time out while streaming Pandora and revert to music on my iphone.

This cable is pricey at $39.00 but I wasn't willing to take a chance on a cable from a third party manufacturer. Also, the extra 8 inches on the cable makes maneuvering the phone much easier.

Manufacturing defect in some of these adapters!

    • Written by from Harrison

After reading the mixed reviews (mostly negative), I decided to purchase the adapter in person at a local Apple store. The Sales Rep. assured me I was purchasing the correct product for my purpose (my Audi A5 media connector has a 30-pin plug and I needed a Lightening Adapter to connect my iPhone 5s). As soon as I left the store and got to my car, I attempted to use the adapter to connect my iPhone. Like others who have reviewed this product, I received a note on my phone's screen that stated "This accessory does not work with this device".
I immediately returned to the store and explained the problem to the Sales Rep. He suggested I exchange the adapter for another identical one and try to connect with the replacement. To my surprise (and pleasure) the replacement worked just fine. My iTune songs and Pandora played through my vehicle's Media connection perfectly.
Based on the mixed reviews and my personal experience, I can only assume some of these adapters have manufacturing defects. I hope that someone from Apple Engineering reads this review and addresses this quality control issue.

It does not work with the HDMI 30 pin adapter

    • Written by from Las Vegas

When I purchased the I Phone 5 I was given the impression that this adapter would simply transfer all the same data from the Lightning connector to the 30 pin connector. This is not the case for video. If you plan on doing video you need to buy an additional cable that is $50. and by the way this $50 dollar cable will not plug into your TV. you need something additional that cost another $30. When you do the math if you want your iPhone 5? to work like your iPhone 4S you need to spend around $110.00. My advise is stick with the 4s.

    Works for my needs

    • Written by from Tujunga

As a music producer, I needed this to work with my audio & MIDI devices made with the 30 pin connectors. These include a Tascam stereo microphone and a Yamaha MIDI interface, both of which work just fine on my iPad 4 with this adaptor, as they did on my iPad 2 without it. Of course the price is outrageous, so this better turn out to be bullet proof, at least until it becomes obsolete, which is probably going to be way too soon! Also, why are all Apple cables and adapters always white? I would prefer the much less obtrusive color of black.
